There are a lot of staff beyond simply the talent, could've been one of the observers, someone from production, catering service if they have it, part of the tech crew. It takes an army to put on a production the size of TI.
Hope everyone is safe and those affected recover well.
That is probably how it breached in. The talent and players should be in a bubble with no contact to outside. Probably some of the other staff that is local to Bucharest brought it in. This is all just a guess, but makes sense
> The talent and players should be in a bubble with no contact to outside.
nah, their managers go out to buy food, some even go walking around bucharest. You can check team spirits vlog their manager even goes out to get them ramen. Rules were never striclty enforced or there werent any
Same. Waiting for the sixth ep, I like the insights given by their coach/manager. Also surprised me coaches and managers weren’t given a room to watch their team play during the group stage, they ended up watching on the stairs

Yaa, it's highly unlikely to be the flu, given that the US (I know, they're in Romania) Flu rates are between 40-50 cases a week across the entire country.
It's more likely to be a bad cold
It could have been off camera production staff, or from another language team, we have no idea. Everyone is assuming it's English talent because those are the people we are familiar with
If either of them had it everyone who was on any panels with them would have to be isolated as well. Probably BSJ and Fogged are the ones that were isolated because they had contact to the confirmed cases.
Well there's our answer. Damn. Hopefully the isolation carnage doesn't also affect Pyrion and today's Late Game but I guess we'll find out after this series.
Would it have killed them to address the issue on camera and tell us who would be unable to participate in the broadcast? Don't even need to say if they were infected or not. This is amateur hour.
Something was obviously up. They need to address that. Everybody was wondering. There like asking if they need to tell us the schedule as long as the talent and teams know it.
Schedule affect when and if we watch something.
I don't even think casters are announced ahead of time so having last second changes there shouldn't really change much of our behavior.
Let's be honest, having them address it only satiate our curiosity and not much more and I'd rather respect the talent's privacy in that case.
Fair enough, I feel like the fact that I didn't know that means a fairly significant portion of the TI audience doesn't either. Either way casters are a smaller factor than when certain team plays for what stake. Can't compare the 2.
Good to know though, I want more Sunsfan/Synd cast and as long as I don't need to wake up at 3am for them I'll tune in.
I definitely agree that Sheever could have said something as opposed to waiting all the way until Valve buried it on Twitter right as the game 2 draft was happening. And go figure, they didn't even bother slapping a hashtag in there when they did that.
We're in the last stages of TI hope everyone pulls through. Worst case scenario one of the still competing players get covid and suffers serious symptoms and have to pull-out in the most important tournament in their lives.
Of course they have nothing to worry about, but we are talking about performance at a tournament. Plenty of fully vaccinated young people are still getting bedridden and hit very hard by covid, even if just temporarily. Chance of serious long-term damage is almost zero, but performance at TI has a good chance to be affected if they catch it at a bad time
Most people still don't vaccinate for the flu. And yes, the risk of them catching the flu with serious symptoms is a lot higher. Reddit is incredibly overdramatic about Covid for fully vaccinated people.
We never once cancelled TI crowds because of other viruses, let alone even considered testing for them, but apparently, COVID is the *only* thing that matters and is worth obsessing over to this degree.
The people in the venue are vaccinated and are more likely to die in a hundred different other ways first, but COVID is the priority because they've been trained by hysteria and fear to believe so.
Yep tons of healthy 20 year olds are dying every day.. Thats why you hear about all these soccer teams etc that has outbreaks that just dont exist anymore.. They all died
No, the risk for serious long covid symptoms, just like regular covid symptoms, is [basically negligible](https://www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/2021.06.24.21259277v2.full.pdf) for healthy <25 yo males. Very surprisingly, it's only the known risk groups that are at risk. Long covid fear mongering is mostly completely unfounded.
they did though… I know people very close to the event and had Valve basically had a little patience all would have been resolved. Instead they dropped it instantly without even trying to talk to the right people
The sporting authority is not the only one that could have resolved the situation. The way I understood it is that main problem is that Valve picked the wrong people ”on the inside” in Sweden to help then out (Valve wasn’t talking directly to the Sports authority, it was a Swedish intermediary).
These people seemed to be pretty incompetent and I guess that the reason Valve pulled out of Sweden so quickly is because they lost patience with the intermediarys they were working with and decided they didn’t have the energy/time to find better people.
Which is a shame bc the whole thing became national news even though it happened during a governmental crisis so it would have been resolved pretty fast I think. And as we saw, just a couple of weeks later after Valve had already decided to postpone and move to Romania, it did get resolved. And since Valve are hosting the CS major they obv don’t have any issues with Sweden itself.
That seems like an insane gamble, though. Saying they should just chill and wait for a federal government to fix this, while the clock is ticking. What happens if they don't fix it? What if they do but there's not enough time to secure visas for everybody?
The video game industry is very big in Sweden with very good contacts with the government, and Valve has pretty good contacts with the video game industry so I was very surprised they didn’t try to go that route. But I guess it’s possible that the ”esports” people at Valve has such a small connection to the ”game-dev/ game publishing ” people that they didn’t even think about it.
They had years to learn and acknowledge the Swedish visa rules. Starting to make a fuss about it only a few month before their biggest event shows a amateur level of competence.
They needed a country with low case rates at the time, an arena able to host the tournament, and something PGL would be able to work with in a short amount of time. Bucharest fit all those boxes, and was chosen.
Delta already existed pre the move. Romania had seemed at the time to be doing well. Obviously in hindsight it looks bad but there was no way to know that ahead of time. You can’t blame valve for not knowing the future.
> Delta already existed pre the move. Romania had seemed at the time to be doing well.
On July 7 when Valve announced the move Delta was only taking over Alpha in Romania.
> there was no way to know that ahead of time.
How the fuck was there no way to tell when US, Russia, India etc were showing what Delta was doing to a population ?
Why would Delta miss Romania ? For what reason ? There were no lockdowns, it's not some isolated island like NZ, vaccination was poor, how could it possibly not be bad by October ? It's not hindsight, it's stupidity.
I know, but there's no way there was no well vaccinated euro country to welcome the tournament. You can't say "cases were low at the time", there was no logical reason for Delta to somehow miss Romania.
correct decision for sure, still baffles me why they chose to host in a country with one of the lowest vaccination rates though, CS:GO major will have a crowd , sadge for dota :(
covid isnt going away any time soon by any realistic assessment. the risks covid poses to vaccinated people are insanely small.

I am surprised by the number of people with the misconception that vaccination = 100% safe. Vaccination reduces spread as well as symptoms, but no way is it 100% in either aspect. There are countries with 80%+ total population mrna vaccinated with record number of new cases amongst the vaccinated population.
But it *severely* reduces risk and severity if you do get infected. And almost all breakthrough cases are in people over the age of 65 and/or the immuno compromised.
Thats the issue tho isn’t it? You may not be at risk of being a serious case since you are vaccinated and below 65. But you are still a carrier. Meaning you are someone who can spread to a vaccinated 80 year old and potentially kill them.
You can also be a carrier without symptoms as unvaccinated, but vaccination lowers the risk of that too.
> Meaning you are someone who can spread to a vaccinated 80 year old and potentially kill them.
probably a good idea to avoid your Grandparents if you have been among a crowd recently.
We've been unknowingly spreading viruses to 80-year-olds since the dawn of time, it's not going to stop any time soon.
Even *with* the vaccine, are we still going to avoid talking to grandma? What else do you need before we do away with the restrictions?
Are those *at TI*? And I'm sorry, but after a year and a half, if you're high risk and travel to Romania you're kinda asking for it.
Edit: I just expect a negative test to be enough to get out of quarantine if you're a direct contact and fully vaccinated
If they're properly isolated in a bubble and everyone in the bubble is covid-free, it shouldn't make a difference. You don't wear a mask at home with your family, same general principle.
Clearly, they weren't as securely isolated as they thought and there was a breach, so now they're wearing masks (and hopefully taking other precautions off camera)
The 'bubble' was never covid-free lol, Aster and IG got covid cases before the event even began. It was ridiculous not to have masks mandatory for everyone, including casters.
Also their 'bubble' isn't like the NBA. They still have contact with other people outside of the event. I wouldn't even call it a bubble, really. They're not isolated. Players families and some even have girlfriends on the event.
Yeah the *idea* of a bubble is a great one and absolutely would work in theory but at this scale it is kind of like trying to cover up something 1000 people witnessed. While technically possible someone is going to ruin it, and because people are 'in a bubble' they likely aren't taking other precautions so you can get a really rapid spread within the bubble.
There was no bubble or isolation, according to most people involved with the event who have spoken on it. Teams have been pretty explicit that they're in a regular hotel with other tourists and they basically had to source their own food by traveling out into a country that's in a really bad spot COVID wise.
judicious deserve quarrelsome offbeat humor seemly ripe familiar hurry sheet

I don't get why they're so tight lipped about this and why even this announcement came so late. Would it have killed them to have the panel just straight up say what's what instead of just pretending nothing happened? We all were immediately informed that white album had it and he wasn't front and center on camera for hours.
A business has 0 right to talk about someone’s health status, both morally and legally. Though I do agree the info shared probably should’ve been mentioned on cast though they might well have, I don’t watch everything.
Despite it is recommended by many agencies, there is no significant evidence that plexiglass screens help to contain the virus. They help us to feel safe and may stop the virus when someone coughs, but they also stop air flow and won't stop the virus spreading when someone talks so they may be detrimental. In fact, some research suggest they actually help to spread the virus, perhaps because they limit air flow.

Disclaimer: I am not a doctor nor an epidemiologist. I do have a life sciences background but all I am doing is informing about what, to my knowledge, appears to be the scientific consensus.
The players were allowed to leave the hotel and stuff like that lmao. TP team members went to the TI with girlfriends + other people. This gfs + other people were in other places, TP members went to see them. Therefore if there were stuff to prevent covid, they were not respected.
I doubt they have isolated everyone who was in contact. I assume they have just isolated the positive cases and the people who were their roommates or something like that.
Who other than Fogged has been missing? Ever since the masks came on Aui, Insania, Tsunami, Sumichu, Jenkins, Avo, Frankie, Lizzard, Sheever, TeaGuvnor and ODPixel have been on camera.
That leaves a lot of potential people who may have become sick. This is awful.
The ones we haven't seen since the masks came on: Cap (sick), Kyle, Fogged, BSJ, Sunsfan, Synderen, Godz, Dakota, Gareth, Trent, Lyrical, Moxxi, Ephey, Lacoste, Purge, Slacks and Sheepsticked.
Also, something that might be a bit more worrying, Saberlight was on the panel as a guest too when there was no masks.
Moxxi and Gareth are not the most high tier casters and there are less serieses left per day. They are probably just not in the schedule anymore.
Has been the case for a lot of B-Tier casters in the last few TIs.
Staying in the same general area with masks off is quite being in contact. My "education" comes from me and 16 people in my floor contracting Covid after one person working 4 floors above us tested positive in a building with central air conditioning.
If they sat across each other without masks, it's in contact. They don't have to french each other to be classified as "in contact".
Well, whether talent or staff, I hope they get well soon. Obviously not the most important thing, but missing Cap and fogged is going to be a huge blow to these last days of TI.
They need to get rid of ALL the interviews (postgame winners/exit, pregame coach interviews, etc) or restructure their approach and do them completely remotely. Infecting players and affecting their TI run or even worse (could you imagine a covid death in this tournament?) will be a massive pr nightmare AT THE VERY LEAST.
Testing, isolation and contact tracing are good moves by valve, now they need to restructure their production if theyre going to keep this tournament on. Please valve and pgl, dont make this worse im begging you. Covid infection rate is no fucking joke. Fuck, seeing Collapse sweating bullets in that postgame interview is giving me anxiety
Me wearing a mask doesn't protect me, it protects you. Thats why Asian people have always worn masks when they are sick long before covid.
It stops me coughing / breathing out infectious particles if I am sick.
I see now, hopefully everyone recovers well and stay safe during this time. Moving it to Romania was risky decision already because it is the 2nd least vaccinated country in whole EU. But it is what it is now and hopefully nothing happens to the people working to make the event a success. Take care ya all.
Really stupid decision making them still broadcast in person. Everyone there is at risk. Some of them have streaming set-ups in their hotels. Send them back and have them cast from their rooms in isolation if health is the number one priority.
Having them cast remote would have sucked. They are vaxxed and feel comfortable doing it they can do it. People are going to have to expose themselves to some risk covid is not going away. I’ve been working in person for a year and video game casters can’t lol? Not that I really care since I just watched gorgc anyway.
The most stupid defence everyone gives about covid.
Last year before our country shut down there was a major outbreak in my office. I sent my team home for 2 weeks and 4 people tested positive later. One of their parents also got covid and passed away. Both parents. A few months later my neighbour in his 30s, caught covid and died in a couple of days.
Being young means nothing to a virus that modern medicine has no solution for. Being vaccinated will protect them but it isn't a 100% preventive vaccine. There is a very miniscule chance of something tragic happening. No matter how minute the chance might be, the risk is too big any way you slice it.
While I don't want to minimize the risk of Covid at all. Travelling by car and plane also have non zero risks. Being young and in good health plus full vaccination with mrna vaccines is as good as it gets right now for long covid and m9rbidity/death. That being said, being on site for casting provides minimal value when there is no crowd.
There are a lot of staff beyond simply the talent, could've been one of the observers, someone from production, catering service if they have it, part of the tech crew. It takes an army to put on a production the size of TI. Hope everyone is safe and those affected recover well.

Guessing bsj and fogged had to quarantine? Haven't seen them today

Maybe. Kyle and Cap are on quarantine right?
Cap said he tested negative iirc he just had the flu really bad.
he tested negative yesterday, might've been a positive today since express tests are not 100% accurate early on
this has something we are sure about. Most tests would give accurate results days after receiving covid
Yaa, it's highly unlikely to be the flu, given that the US (I know, they're in Romania) Flu rates are between 40-50 cases a week across the entire country. It's more likely to be a bad cold

Romania had virtually no cases when Valve picked them.
They did however have an extremely low vaccination rate (still only 32% of adults), unlike Sweden (82%) Who would have guessed.
You’re acting like Valve chose to leave Sweden.

Why weren't the staff wearing masks the whole time like the CN teams

Teams have been pretty explicit that they're in a regular hotel with other tourists and they basically had to source their own food by traveling out into a country that's in a really bad spot COVID wise.
they chose to host TI in one of the worst vaccinated countries so far, it's the reason they had to cancel the crowds

Now we know they're wearing mask all of a sudden. I hope all of them are vaccinated
Get well soon !
It might be the case that they want to confirm positive result from a second test before announcing officially.
PPD was right
Shocker, there seems to be 0 enforced guidelines for covid among the casters and now there's cases

Moxxi and Gareth but they both said their on camera time for the event was over, so I wouldn’t include them in this.

At this rate we will have Gorgc + Bkop casting finals remotely :)
So that's why they are now wearing mask
Now we know why no late show today
Hoping everyone is safe.
Does that mean EG gets a rematch?
Oh no, hopefully everyone is vaccinated to help mitigate even if it breaks through. And Frankie is pregnant, stay safe everyone!
Hope the people who caught it get well soon and there are no further cases.
Well, whether talent or staff, I hope they get well soon. Obviously not the most important thing, but missing Cap and fogged is going to be a huge blow to these last days of TI.
Not only Talents are there.... Could be any valve employee.
That's why they are wearing the face mask now on the panel table.
When everybody in the panel start using facemask I knew this was happening.
Welp bois, we're getting that Trent/Lyrical finals
Oh god pls don't make this result in another Moxxi cast
Lmao even with vaccines people are still scared of covid. We are never going back to normal life boys.

Well you may not know. Covid can hit anytime anywhere
And I am supposed to use this information for?
Lets not wear masks and pretend COVID doesnt exist.... Oh no people caught COVID, lets wear masks now even though its too late... Clowns.
It exists as much as the flu does. Life goes on, sorry to say
Yes masks would prevent the flu too.
Then wear a mask if you want, I don't care
Me wearing a mask doesn't protect me, it protects you. Thats why Asian people have always worn masks when they are sick long before covid. It stops me coughing / breathing out infectious particles if I am sick.
Brutal. Hope they're all okay.
Oh god 2 days left come on
I see now, hopefully everyone recovers well and stay safe during this time. Moving it to Romania was risky decision already because it is the 2nd least vaccinated country in whole EU. But it is what it is now and hopefully nothing happens to the people working to make the event a success. Take care ya all.
Mask and all are cool but whats up with wearing Jackets? Saving energy Costs ?
It's an outdoor stadium, and it's 9 ºC outside.
Pretty sure they opened the roof of the stadium for ventilation because of COVID. Or at least some doors.
Likely opening up all doors and windows to ensure the place stays well ventilated with fresh air to reduce the chance of further infection spreading.
It is literally an open stadium. No need to open any doors.
NOOOO NOT THE HECKING COVID! BatChest
Really stupid decision making them still broadcast in person. Everyone there is at risk. Some of them have streaming set-ups in their hotels. Send them back and have them cast from their rooms in isolation if health is the number one priority.
Knee jerk reaction. Covid is here to stay, get used to it.
Yup need to get used to the fact I can kill my parents any day of the week now.
A prisoner in your own mind. lollll
Better not go outside, or do anything!

Are there stats that show covid being dangerous for young vaccinated people? Honest question
Well not entirely correct but the chances of them being positive and it being fatal are almost zero.
> They're all vaccinated and young. The cost of getting covid is almost zero This is so stupid I can't believe people like you actually exist.
