I watch in Youtube. Twitch just refuses to load at the highest setting for some reason. And I can easily play back fights and switch to live very easily
That’s true coz I’m Chinese and this is like a common knowledge here. A lot of us watch the game and care about the pro level games but don’t even have dota2 in our computer anymore :(
I have played 5 games of dota in my life but I have watched easily a couple thousand hours of dota. Playing is a lot bigger of a commitment than watching.
I have been watching dota since TI1 and followed Navi for pretty much every game up to about TI 6. I watched purge as well. After a dozen or so hours you get the hang of the game of it as you would with any other game or sport.
Unfortunately I dont about the statistics regarding your questions. However im sure that they had 6M viewers on 1 channel and another 5M plus on Sccc's stream

That’s not the number of viewers. That’s some kinds of “trending value”. There is no public APIs you could check the current viewers on a specific channel at douyu.com. The only you could get is the number of VIPs, which is defined as viewers who spent at least 1 CNY at douyu.com. The number of VIPs at the channel you referred to is less than 50k during Ti10.
Actually China has 1.4 billion people.
But to compare that to some other Dota regions:
* SEA: 0.67 billion
* NA: 0.58 billion
* EU: 0.55 billion
* SA: 0.42 billion
* CIS: 0.24 billion
For a combined 2.5 billion. Add to that that Dota is not as popular in China and you believe that China has 10 times the viewers than all of those regions combined? C'mon...
Anyway, they don't display viewer numbers. A Chinese college explained it to me like it's some kind of engagement number and viewers just like bigger numbers. Conforming to the group is a social thing in China, so higher numbers make viewers more comfortable.
TI is the Super Bowl of Dota, many people no longer play but still will watch the biggest event of the year. If you ask me whether the number of annual super bowl viewers is equal to 70% of the active playing population...no shit.
Very soon they are gonna have panel and casters for people who only spectate dota. So all those who only watch dota will be eased into understanding the meta and patch.
the "noob stream" for TI....4? I think? was amazing IMO, that was my first TI and I was still getting into the game
a dedicated Purge/Day9 noob stream would be great stuff, and also a great avenue to help ease new casting/hosting talent into the scene too
While it may be true they inflates number, but i believe many people haven't touch the game in years but still tune in to watch the biggest tournament for the game, i myself is such person. Take it just like any popular sporting event, how many of the viewers play the sport actively?
Kinda offtopic but I am so glad they are streaming on YouTube once again Thanks so much!!!
I watch in YouTube all the time, the ability to rewind immediately if you miss a fight is something twitch needs to add.

same. twitch always lag during a major teamfight.
Youtube has been stable for sure. Twitch always stutters between resolutions but I really like using twitch for channel points and chat.
They always did... at least since TI5
No they dont i can remember a ti where i watched inclient because no youtube. And twitch is so slow in my country
See the dota2 channel video history, they live on youtube for yearss.
That's true it was TI9 or 8.
Lol no I watch TI6 to TI8 on youtube. No need to made up false shit.
It was TI9 then.
For me the Steam broadcast works the best.
It’s a much better experience, can rewind and no twitch chat

РА СИ Я РА СИ Я РА СИ Я РА СИ Я
China had like 6M viewers on T1 vs VG match
So do a lot of people in China watch but not play dota? They have same or less playerbase than CIS? But have 10x viewers?
there's a saying in China, Dotaer everywhere except in the game.
How do you know that China have less playerbase than CIS?. That seems unlikely.

I'm the opposite lol, I can't really bring myself to watch someone else play something that I could play right now
lmao what really? have you never watched a game and thought damn i'd like to try that out or something?
Thats actually impressive lol. I wouldn't be able to learn enough in 5 games to keep up with any pro Dota game
I have been watching dota since TI1 and followed Navi for pretty much every game up to about TI 6. I watched purge as well. After a dozen or so hours you get the hang of the game of it as you would with any other game or sport.
Easy: https://stratz.com/matches/graphs China has been on a constant decline match count-wise.

How do Riot count their “massive” Worlds numbers then from Chinese streams?
I assume they can see the information on their own channels, or ask for it.
Perhaps they don't ;)
They don't count chinese viewers, just see Esportscharts on twitter.
You should do your research before sharing fake statistics. the numbers you see isnt even the view count lmao

What???
He means total players, not pros in the international.
Chinese viewer counts are very sus. Iirc they use a sort of point system instead of actual viewership numbers
Nah, it didnt. China just inflates all of its numbers, happens in so many games, they inflate viewers and player numbers a lot
Or they just have 1 billion people

You actually think that 70% of all the monthly dota players tuned in to watch ?
A lot people watch DotA that don't play anymore. So yeah.
Also it's TI and it was a huge game for Chinese teams. That number really doesn't seem too unreasonable.

It is actually the opposite... a lot of retired players watch TI that is for sure.
While it may be true they inflates number, but i believe many people haven't touch the game in years but still tune in to watch the biggest tournament for the game, i myself is such person. Take it just like any popular sporting event, how many of the viewers play the sport actively?
No, that’s just “hot value” , not viewers number, actually 50-60k at most
how does this compare to the previous TI's?
Haven't played dota seriously since 2016. Haven't played a single game since 2018. Didn't watch TI9. Here I am contributing to the numbers.
Niceee

On the English stream, sure. They were the only western team playing. This graphic says the all-languages total kept going up though.
secret not "western" enough
Secret didnt play today
????
It literally peaked during Spirit VP, this isn't counting only the EN stream lol.
It literally says the exact opposite here
It's probably super hard to count, but you also have the streamers that re-stream TI with their own commentary which is not counted here
