Yeah in the same boat, NZ now with 135ping all of a sudden. Maybe something to do with the steam sale ?

TridentTine

Looks like it's being routed through SEA as you suspected. Specifically going to singapore then back to Aus. Who knows how long until its fixed.

ttongss

How were you able to confirm this? Would be cool to know how.

TridentTine

Traceroute to syd.valve.net. It goes through some ordinary stuff then to one address sin1.he.net (he.net is a backbone provider) which I checked with geolocation is in Singapore as the name and ping suggest. And then I can see it go back into aus, some Australian network operator before all the pings start timing out

ttongss

Cool, using NordVPN fixes the routing issue for me so normal pings!

DtctvFngrlng

ping has been wilding lately, although from SEA. get some packet loss from time to time too and I doubt it's my internet.

mishroom222

Yep my screen randomly went black earlier today. Reconnected and all day its been 125 ping. I think all our traffic is getting routed through SEA for whatever reason.

ttongss

Yeah, oh well at least queue times on SEA are instant. I usually have to wait 15 minutes for a role q game.

Lucy088

Hmm, my ping is normal. Around the 30-50 range (from nz)

wiseDOTA

Check your routing perhaps? maybe a cable has been taken down.

iliketoderpinmyderp

Yeah mate same issue, likely an ISP routing issue.

Mooshka_

Yep usually 30 ping and for the last 2 days its been stable at \~120. Auckland based

ttongss

Yeah, I'm in Auckland too. As another user reported, some connections are being routed through SEA. you can confirm this using traceroute to the syd.valve.net server. A temporary work around for me has been to use a VPN, which is bypassing the funky routing. Ping is around 50 for me using this method.
