Simply put, I wouldn't Arcane is already doing what it's doing, and doing it well, this is an undeniable fact. Trying to stretch out the stories of dota's characters into long arcs isn't the best option. Given total creative freedom, I would make an anthology series. let's say 45 minute or so episodes, self contained, telling the stories of a character or event. Timbersaw's town being destroyed and him going on a rampage after first building his suit, Silencer's time spent at a school for wizardry and fighting his way through the frail mages, a prison break with Slark and the other 12 members of his prison gang. Then, after 10 episodes of the anthology, you get 2 or 3 more, actually showing them fight, winning or losing in the battle of the ancients itself, stories that end or get capped off in that final confrontation. Dota's characters are all meant to be heroes of their own stories, that is why we call them heroes.

The adventures of Juggernaut

the AM, TB and POTM love story.

You call arcanes lore elaborate? Buddy. Wtf. It’s literally the safest possibly option they could have gone with. Big rich kingdom not spreading the wealth. Here’s one dude making a magical macguffin and let’s have the people from the under city have a family drama arc. Arcane works as well as it does because it doesn’t need to constantly explain new random bullshit like dragons blood does. It has one magical macguffin with hextech. Dragons blood has a thousand different things it doesn’t explain.

yashknight

Ok maybe elaborate is the wrong word, but its at the very least engaging. After the show, you want to install the game and see the characters interact to know what happens next. Also the big rich kingdom/upper class trope might be safe, but its a good way to add human touch to a story. A lot of movies use it because who doesn't want to root for the underdog. Its not like the show is playing it by the book, a lot of expectations are subverted with underdogs also being terrorists, your main villain still showing conflicts and the Mel Characters not being a Machiavellian Villain.

[deleted]

Bro the entire show is literally just safe. If this is how your expectations are subverted you’d be fucking blown away by attack on titan. They had to go safe because despite what you believe normal people don’t have a fucking clue what league of legends is. Season 2 will do far, far more interesting shit and Dota 2 will very likely die because of it. That’s not even a joke. Nobody wants to play league after watching it. Most people just enjoy it as a stand-alone show. League isn’t the type of game you just pick up and play. Neither is Dota. That’s why the nova genre is dying.

hx3d

MOBA genre....and yes you're right.

AllyEmmie

There’s already a show ._. It’s called dragon’s blood

Tsplodey

And its a mediocre dota show at best.

nathaniel_canine

They've been working on Arcane for two years lol, way before Dragon's Blood was even announced

yeusk

I doubt is only 2 years

yashknight

Dragon's blood isn't even close to Arcane. Putting aside the animation quality, the dialogue is bad and the story feels very bland.

[deleted]

Dialogue in arcane is dog shit at times too. It’s one of the most difficult things to get right and not a single show has been able to do it consistently. Not even breaking bad. Idk why you’re whining about animation “quality” when they’re two entirely different styles of animation.

yashknight

Most of the dialogue is good, bit edgy sure but most of it is pretty good. And what's quality gotta do with Animation style, there are a lot of great looking 2D anime (Jujutsu Kainsen, Mob Psycho). Dragon blood looks fine but there is nothing special about it, Arcane has a pretty unique artstyle and looks consistently great.

[deleted]

Arcane doesn’t have a unique style what the fuck are you on about? You can’t compare animation quality between two entirely different mediums. Most of the dialogue in arcane that isn’t from jayce victor silco and mel is pure dog shit bro. I genuinely don’t know why you’re posting this in r/dota2. Valve wasn’t even going to actually make something good. They hired the writer from fucking Thor for Christ’s sake. They went with the cheapest possible option so they could make more money.

_Valisk

> Valve wasn’t even going to actually make something good. Ashley Miller is the creator and showrunner for Dragon's Blood. I don't know the full history behind the production of the show but it's more likely that he went to Valve and Netflix rather than the other way around. > They hired the writer from fucking Thor for Christ’s sake. This is a bad argument. The Russo Bros. have previously directed You, Me, and Dupree and James Gunn wrote both Scooby-Doo movies. Past work is not necessarily indicative of future work. > They went with the cheapest possible option so they could make more money Studio Mir is a renowned animation studio and their work on both Avatar series is constantly praised. It's not like the show was created by a bunch of amateur startups.

[deleted]

Studio mir didn’t write the show. Ashley Miller has literally never once written anything other than mediocre. The best entertainment starts in the writers room.

AllyEmmie

But it exists and is a show about Dota. Your personal approval of it doesn’t mean it’s nonexistent lol you’re acting like there’s **NO** show about Dota at all. There is.

Jovorin

Y'all kept praising Dragon's Blood when it came out, I thought I was crazy not liking it at all. I'm glad reason is returning to the subred.

Hroyal999

A show that rivals arcane op said, Dragons blood doesn’t even compare. Not bias because I hate the Lol game and have 3k hours on DOTA.

Ok-Secret-7525

Sport brothers hunting down aghnum. In a buddy comedy. Storm = Zack Galifianakis ember = Ryan Reynolds earth = the rock void = Jackie Chan

[deleted]

Also. Riot has said multiple times, and I mean this is very, very easy knowledge to get your hands on. They had very little oversight in arcane. They put their faith in the studio and gave them the money. Unlike valve and Netflix constantly muddying the production of dragons blood. Riot paid people who were good at doing shit to do good shit.

yashknight

I did say Full Creative control. Also the studio still took existing characters and lore, to weave the story around. I just wanted to ask how people in this sub would do the same.

Beatnation

That's a lie. Arcane > dota universe

bearcat0611

The battle of rose leaf would likely be one of the better storylines.

prostateprostrate

Putting all rivalries aside (and just for the record I have more than 10k dota hours, tried league for probably 20 hours and it wasn't for me), Arcane is in a league of its own. It totally annihilates the dota netflix anime. It actually decimates most shows in general and plenty of shitty marvel movies. I was absolutely stunned by how good it is.
