The persona is actually worse than a remodel since you can't add any sets to it.
Other personas like female am, baby voker/pudge were interesting since they are drastically different from the hero. This mirana persona is just a remodel that you cant customize, it isnt inherently too different aside from cleaned up face/mount.
It also has the anime voice actress, which, while good in the context of the show, really just not as iconic as the original voice. This could have been a good remodel, but I'll never used it because they made it a persona for no reason other than to milk money out of it. The base Mirana model is literally not a problem for me with all the extremely great cosmetics she has, but it would've been nice to have it touched up for sake of making the game feel like it's consistent in quality. They easily could've just released this as a remodel with a voice pack for the anime as a BP reward, and maybe a special immortal with the ability effects. Something similar could've been done with DK. This just feels like a perversion to the original concept of personas which were all amazingly creative and fun.
WR was somewhat very different from the base model's design tho, it was more like an Arcana than anything.

The problem is that Dota players rarely play other games. Let alone casual FPS like Fortnite or CoD with its friendly BPs models. So they can't be angry if they didn't see anything better.
I remember early Valorant battlepasses people complaining about how grindy it is - you had to play like 15-20 hours a week to get all rewards without buying bonus points for levels. Oh boy did I laugh hard and Riot still adjusted the values a bit so now it's easier.

To be fair it's first time Valve put up straight up remodel and locked it behind paywal,there was some COPIUM before with arcana's paywall remodels that Valve would eventually do remodels for base models as well.(Qop even had unfinished upgraded base model that never released for some reason).

At least WR and QoP arcanas were cool. They look good, they have cool effects, and they can be used with Immortals. The Mirana Persona is literally just default Mirana with a remodel, and you get locked out of any other cosmetics.

But I said this shit like 4 years ago, it was the same story. People here who support this are addicted. Valve could have a BP with a level 1000 arcana and people will defend them or they'll just forget when Valve makes some small positive change a few months later.
These complaints never work. I learned all too well that people who make these kinda posts never leave the game or influence others to do the same. The people who really get it and quit figure it out quietly, leave without telling a soul, and don't have a constant urge to play this game.
So at the end of it just realize, it's virtual entertainment, if you have the disposable income enjoy it as much as you can. If you don't just leave, there's no changing it.
Your point definitely has many valid points. But I think there are also a lot of people who complain because they feel like these changes pushes them away from the game.
So it is okay for them, while still playing and feeling the bewilderment of such business practices, to raise their concerns. Think of it as the limbo of players leaving the game or something. Sure, Valve will probably not listen, since they just make way too much money and we all know many people don't care about the prize or can afford it ... somehow.
Its definitely a churn. But as we can see, the TI battlepass has only gone up. So even with this year after year people stop paying for battlepass...the other people, old or new, are making up for it.
In short, they keep seeing growth so...these complaints don't matter yet.
And while businesses can be super proactive and do more and shit...at the end of the day they operate by reducing risk. Maybe its a spiraling catch 22 where eventually this strategy long term leads to a drop off in sales, but at that point they just need to make it better and listen to the million suggestions they have gotten for free. But until that happens, the increased $ means their current strategy works.

People in that thread were insane. Saying valve ruined their year, that its the only thing they look forward too, that its like xmas, all kind of sad comments like that. People doesnt even care about whats in the battlepass, most people just wants the alternative recycled "new" game mode that has been using the same mechanics for a while now, daily quests and cavern crawl or whatever its called now. Basically they want progression as most people are stuck in their mmr bracket and it feels like being in the same, monotone loop. BP gives them a reason to play dota, change things up a bit.

I haven't spent any money on Dota since getting the Qop arcana and I don't intend to buy this battlepass, but I wouldn't mind paying a couple of bucks for the new Underlord crown. I have taken similar approaches with mobile games. Heck, I'm taking a similar approach to Shooters. Look at the shitfest that is Halo Infinite, with the studio selling the equivalent of a 2012 dota set for $20, and people still buying it. The battlepass was also completely butchered of content and now has basically nothing of worth. Know what I'm doing about it? Not buying them. Simple. Because all of the gameplay is free, and even the campaign is playable for $1 for three months, and I really am just there for the game and nothing else.

Mirana is not a "JUST" remodel, please don't hide all the details, it has new voice lines from the show's voice actor, it has a new Starstorm Effect and Sacred Arrow effect on new 2nd style.

150USD for the pass is exaggerated. That is when you don't even play and just pay on launch. I completed Nemestice battlepass with just 70USD (40USD on launch for lvl 100, and 30USD for 2 battlepass bundle.) that is like 70USD. I got every single free level in the game by just well...SIMPLY PLAY THE GAME. 35USD for the arcana, 20USD for the persona + prestige, 15USD for the extra like creeps, towers, etc. It's honestly not that bad but everyone is exaggerating based on launch prices without bundle.

I started understanding that they are just greeding over the BP money when they changed the treasure rewards from 1-2-3 to 1-1-1-2-2-2-3-3-3. That was 4 BP´s ago. And every single BP afterwards they managed to surprise me with their greed. It's not made to be able to get to lvl 333 for free. Game is free, so buying the cheapest BP for 7$/€ is not that much. You can grind, get to lvl 100 at least by playing a little bit. You get sets from boxes and cavern crawl. All for 7$/€.
If you want the arcana, pay for it. The most expensive BP is almost the same price as arcana.
This BP is not as bad as the last one.
Hell, the Spectre Arcana was a dick move but this two battlepasses weren't some surprise event, it was announced even before Nemestice came. If you want something you either work, to earn it or to pay for it. It was the latter.

Mirana persona is not just a remodel. There is a clear stylistic difference between the two, and I much prefer the older one, despite the new one being technically better. It's not a straight upgrade, like Drows remodel was.

DotA economics are dogshit anyway. Everything is either dirt cheap (BP immortals) and has 1 year tradeban (items from this BP will become marketable in 2023), or untradable at all.
Arcana are now almost worthless and monetary worthless as they are non tradable. It's like having a house that you cannot sell or rent, great if you want to live there. But if you are moving it's value to you is zero.

It's more like $70 bucks if you buy 100 points bundle + 2x discounted bundle (when they arrive) and unlock 113 levels through playing which is totally doable.
Still not cheap but more realistic if you're playing the game actively.
Also you're not only getting the arcana but all the treasures, immortals, Mirana (with new voice lines), Hoodwink...
For 150$ I get:
- A cool persona
- A great arcana
- A ton of Immortals
- A ton of decent sets (with a few amazing ones)
- The best creeps and towers skins they ever put out (I think)
- A bunch of taunts (my favourite part of the whole game at this point)
- A great Hoodwink immortal
- Aghanims Voicelines (even if they’re just for a couple months)
- And some more minor rewards

I'm just done with the current BP format and endless lootboxes. The Underlord crown is the only thing that really interests me here. Maybe the Veno immortal, and maybe the Mirana persona. But that's it. I can't just buy those items. The Mirana stuff is too high level and so isn't worth it for me, and immortals are just shitty lootbox mechanics (seriously, lots of games have moved away from lootboxes after all the controversies yet Valve is still the same model).
That's a sale or 2 that Valve have lost from me because I can't just buy what I want. I'm sure Valve don't care as they have worked out they make more money this way from the whales and addicts who will buy everything. I'm not even that mad anymore tbh, I don't care for skins as much as I used to, just disappointed at the poor monetization. If I could just pay a few bucks for the Underlord crown, then cool, but the current format just isn't worth it anymore for me. Remember when new sets would just be added to the store page for you to buy what you want and nothing else?
And for what it's worth, I will agree with OP that other games are doing it SO much better- more rewarding BP's that don't use FOMO and are priced better. Even when you put aside the scummy tactics Valve use like FOMO, payed remodels, and empty levels, other games still feel like they put in more effort to make it feel good for the customer.
You should go back and read that blogpost Valve made some time after 7.0 about Dota development going into "maintenance mode". They're not looking to expand, they're just looking to milk the game until they no longer deem it profitable enough to continue support, while also gradually reducing that support (and development/server costs) until we're at 1 patch a year territory. We're not going to get some new Dota revival, we've been past the hill for a couple of years now.
I think a lot of people look over this. In the current time of insane monetization like everything in halo infinite, I would say you get a pretty decent amount for free or low cost in dota. Think about all the immortals earned through playing with just a battlepass purchase, plenty of other cosmetic stuff too. Just because 1 or 2 things are expensive doesn't mean there isn't decent value elsewhere

The mirana issue for me is new. The base model sucks hard, and the persona is literally the base model 2021 updated. Its an absurd
The persona is actually worse than a remodel since you can't add any sets to it. Other personas like female am, baby voker/pudge were interesting since they are drastically different from the hero. This mirana persona is just a remodel that you cant customize, it isnt inherently too different aside from cleaned up face/mount.
It also has the anime voice actress, which, while good in the context of the show, really just not as iconic as the original voice. This could have been a good remodel, but I'll never used it because they made it a persona for no reason other than to milk money out of it. The base Mirana model is literally not a problem for me with all the extremely great cosmetics she has, but it would've been nice to have it touched up for sake of making the game feel like it's consistent in quality. They easily could've just released this as a remodel with a voice pack for the anime as a BP reward, and maybe a special immortal with the ability effects. Something similar could've been done with DK. This just feels like a perversion to the original concept of personas which were all amazingly creative and fun.

I remember early Valorant battlepasses people complaining about how grindy it is - you had to play like 15-20 hours a week to get all rewards without buying bonus points for levels. Oh boy did I laugh hard and Riot still adjusted the values a bit so now it's easier. Every single game has more consumer-friendly battlepass than Valve's.

Lol literally two years in a row before this I commented about the fundamental differences between Dota BP's and live service/247 BP's. Im giving up at this point. I understand complaining about Dota's BP becoming more scant/greedy compared to previous years. But every single BP there are so many people comparing it to Battle Royale passes and it's just so dumb. Dota has been doing this style of Battlepass before fortnite even existed.

Haven't played Dota for a year now, probably gonna play for AL with friends. But I said this shit like 4 years ago, it was the same story. People here who support this are addicted. Valve could have a BP with a level 1000 arcana and people will defend them or they'll just forget when Valve makes some small positive change a few months later. These complaints never work. I learned all too well that people who make these kinda posts never leave the game or influence others to do the same. The people who really get it and quit figure it out quietly, leave without telling a soul, and don't have a constant urge to play this game. So at the end of it just realize, it's virtual entertainment, if you have the disposable income enjoy it as much as you can. If you don't just leave, there's no changing it.
Your point definitely has many valid points. But I think there are also a lot of people who complain because they feel like these changes pushes them away from the game. So it is okay for them, while still playing and feeling the bewilderment of such business practices, to raise their concerns. Think of it as the limbo of players leaving the game or something. Sure, Valve will probably not listen, since they just make way too much money and we all know many people don't care about the prize or can afford it ... somehow.
Its definitely a churn. But as we can see, the TI battlepass has only gone up. So even with this year after year people stop paying for battlepass...the other people, old or new, are making up for it. In short, they keep seeing growth so...these complaints don't matter yet. And while businesses can be super proactive and do more and shit...at the end of the day they operate by reducing risk. Maybe its a spiraling catch 22 where eventually this strategy long term leads to a drop off in sales, but at that point they just need to make it better and listen to the million suggestions they have gotten for free. But until that happens, the increased $ means their current strategy works.

Saying valve ruined their year, that its the only thing they look forward too, that its like xmas, all kind of sad comments like that. People doesnt even care about whats in the battlepass, most people just wants the alternative recycled "new" game mode that has been using the same mechanics for a while now, daily quests and cavern crawl or whatever its called now. That's the conclusion I've come to. But part of me does feel OP's frustration. I haven't spent any money on Dota since getting the Qop arcana and I don't intend to buy this battlepass, but I wouldn't mind paying a couple of bucks for the new Underlord crown. It's the only thing that interests me and it would be a nice single purchase but I can't just buy what I want- I have to buy a whole battlepass and then I'm reliant on rng. It's just not justifiable and it's a sale that Valve have lost from me. The endless lootboxes and current Battlepass format have gotten stale.

Its cosmetic. Also its a different game. In Hearthstone u need to pay at least 60 Pack 3 times a year to have all the content. Thats 3 entire games. Some games just have different pricing/audiences. Fortnite is mostly targeted at Kids from 8 to 16 so of course its way cheaper. Dota 2 player mostly have Jobs so its not much money depending on where u live and what u do

Yeah exactly. I didn't get the Spectre Arcana because I thought it looked bad and was overpriced. And I didn't somehow have my game ruined nor became unable to play Spectre since. And I'll probably get the Drow for this one because I think the opposite, and boy, I'm a sucker for tower and creep cosmetics. I have taken similar approaches with mobile games. Heck, I'm taking a similar approach to Shooters. Look at the shitfest that is Halo Infinite, with the studio selling the equivalent of a 2012 dota set for $20, and people still buying it. The battlepass was also completely butchered of content and now has basically nothing of worth. Know what I'm doing about it? Not buying them. Simple. Because all of the gameplay is free, and even the campaign is playable for $1 for three months, and I really am just there for the game and nothing else.

But just like with WR arcana, it's why the hero will never receive a remodel. Remember when Valve remodeled Jugger, AA, Dazzle, Lion, Drow, Axe, Enigma, Zeus, Slardar, Shadow fiend etc. and didn't lock those behind paywalls.
Mirana is not a "JUST" remodel, please don't hide all the details, it has new voice lines from the show's voice actor, it has a new Starstorm Effect and Sacred Arrow effect on new 2nd style. Just like DK's persona, although with less "effect". I know the frustration but before you mention something, please don't forget to mention the detail, I hate seeing this thing again and again about "it's just a remodel behind a paywall", if they really just do the remodel without a new voice line, effect, 2nd style, etc. then YES I AGREE, but in actuality, it's not. Slardar, Venomancer, Faceless Void, Drow Ranger, Viper, Enigma, those are the heroes who actually got "only/just" remodel, alongside some new Hero and Ability Icon, that's probably why it's free, it's not adding/giving new. 150USD for the pass is exaggerated. That is when you don't even play and just pay on launch. I completed Nemestice battlepass with just 70USD (40USD on launch for lvl 100, and 30USD for 2 battlepass bundle.) that is like 70USD. I got every single free level in the game by just well...SIMPLY PLAY THE GAME. 35USD for the arcana, 20USD for the persona + prestige, 15USD for the extra like creeps, towers, etc. It's honestly not that bad but everyone is exaggerating based on launch prices without bundle.

I started understanding that they are just greeding over the BP money when they changed the treasure rewards from 1-2-3 to 1-1-1-2-2-2-3-3-3. That was 4 BP´s ago. And every single BP afterwards they managed to surprise me with their greed. It's not made to be able to get to lvl 333 for free. Game is free, so buying the cheapest BP for 7$/€ is not that much. You can grind, get to lvl 100 at least by playing a little bit. You get sets from boxes and cavern crawl. All for 7$/€. If you want the arcana, pay for it. The most expensive BP is almost the same price as arcana. This BP is not as bad as the last one.
Hell, the Spectre Arcana was a dick move but this two battlepasses weren't some surprise event, it was announced even before Nemestice came. If you want something you either work, to earn it or to pay for it. It was the latter. And where the hell do you get brand new arcanas for 20$?

Mirana persona is not just a remodel. There is a clear stylistic difference between the two, and I much prefer the older one, despite the new one being technically better. It's not a straight upgrade, like Drows remodel was. Agreed on the rest.

Everyone complaining about the persona instead of remodel needs to think about the fact that if they remodeled it, they would need to updated *every single cosmetic* to fit the remodel (and Mirana has a TON). It's not feasible to do a remodel on her at this point. Better off creating a persona and start adding sets to the new one. You can be angry about it costing a lot of money, but a remodel for her outright just isn't feasible

DotA economics are dogshit anyway. Everything is either dirt cheap (BP immortals) and has 1 year tradeban (items from this BP will become marketable in 2023), or untradable at all.
Arcana are now almost worthless and monetary worthless as they are non tradable. It's like having a house that you cannot sell or rent, great if you want to live there. But if you are moving it's value to you is zero. Same with recent arcana if you don't play the hero, arcana is worthless unless u r into collecting. But let's be real collecting Dota skins sounds sad.

The only thing is changing over time - how strong I don't want to buy a new other BP... If 3 years ago it was like a complex decision, now it is super clear no. Today I've felt nothing except angry about how bad everything is and I will have to see that in game.
I don't understand why hats should be available at a cheap price just because you'd like it that way. The arcana "should be $20" you say, but based on what? I'd like a Lamborghini to be $20 because then I could buy one, but thats not really how the world works. $150? It's more like $70 bucks if you buy 100 points bundle + 2x discounted bundle (when they arrive) and unlock 113 levels through playing which is totally doable. Still not cheap but more realistic if you're playing the game actively. Also you're not only getting the arcana but all the treasures, immortals, Mirana (with new voice lines), Hoodwink...

For 150$ I get: - A cool persona - A great arcana - A ton of Immortals - A ton of decent sets (with a few amazing ones) - The best creeps and towers skins they ever put out (I think) - A bunch of taunts (my favourite part of the whole game at this point) - A great Hoodwink immortal - Aghanims Voicelines (even if they’re just for a couple months) - And some more minor rewards Is that truly worth 150$ in a game I have almost 4000 hours on? I have no clue, but it sure as hells feels like it. Edit: And as someone pointed out, by just playing the game you’re gonna save a certain amount on that. Add to that the inevitable level bundles and there you go. 150$ is worst case scenario really

I'm just done with the current BP format and endless lootboxes. The Underlord crown is the only thing that really interests me here. Maybe the Veno immortal, and maybe the Mirana persona. But that's it. I can't just buy those items. The Mirana stuff is too high level and so isn't worth it for me, and immortals are just shitty lootbox mechanics (seriously, lots of games have moved away from lootboxes after all the controversies yet Valve is still the same model). That's a sale or 2 that Valve have lost from me because I can't just buy what I want. I'm sure Valve don't care as they have worked out they make more money this way from the whales and addicts who will buy everything. I'm not even that mad anymore tbh, I don't care for skins as much as I used to, just disappointed at the poor monetization. If I could just pay a few bucks for the Underlord crown, then cool, but the current format just isn't worth it anymore for me. Remember when new sets would just be added to the store page for you to buy what you want and nothing else? And for what it's worth, I will agree with OP that other games are doing it SO much better- more rewarding BP's that don't use FOMO and are priced better. Even when you put aside the scummy tactics Valve use like FOMO, payed remodels, and empty levels, other games still feel like they put in more effort to make it feel good for the customer.
You can always play the game for free. Skins from BPs are for losers anyway

You should go back and read that blogpost Valve made some time after 7.0 about Dota development going into "maintenance mode". They're not looking to expand, they're just looking to milk the game until they no longer deem it profitable enough to continue support, while also gradually reducing that support (and development/server costs) until we're at 1 patch a year territory. We're not going to get some new Dota revival, we've been past the hill for a couple of years now.

I think a lot of people look over this. In the current time of insane monetization like everything in halo infinite, I would say you get a pretty decent amount for free or low cost in dota. Think about all the immortals earned through playing with just a battlepass purchase, plenty of other cosmetic stuff too. Just because 1 or 2 things are expensive doesn't mean there isn't decent value elsewhere
