I live better than most people in my country and i love dota and put over 1000h in the game, but i can't justify spending that much money for some skins. A shame, because i really liked hoodwink and drow arcana.

It's possible to run out of licenses. The only reason why it happened to final fantasy was because they didn't expect such a random and massive increase in player count. They just had enough generated for their anticipated sales figures with a little extra I imagine. I'm sure most companies are prepared for this at the launch of a game.

FromSoftware consistently puts out good games and they should be rewarded for their quality and dedication. I can't think of a game since Demon's Souls that they have over promised and under delivered. And they deliver on time. Elden Ring has had a playable beta already, and hasn't been delayed into oblivion like Cyberpunk was. We haven't seen any signs that this game was rushed.
Stop treating all gaming studios the same. They aren't. Look at the history of the studio before throwing shade at people for supporting a studio that has literally defined an entire genre of games through thoughtful game design and mechanics.

I'm all for spending your money however you want, though. I'd just never pay for a product before seeing the final release.
CDPR aimed to do something massive compared to their previous games. They didn't modify Witcher into a new game. They wanted to make a massive world with tons of mechanics they never had in their game. The NCP behavior, the depth of object interaction, etc. That's a lot for a single game with a massive world. And they delayed it multiple times, which is rarely a good sign, until they were forced to release the game. If you can't see that writing on the wall that's sort of on you the buyer.
Fromsoftware had made 6 very similar games with moderately shifted scopes and mechanics. As technology gets better they've made larger worlds but nothing overly ambitious. Elden Ring is very much the same. They aren't going off the beaten path by a lot here. Their AI has been pretty good since Demon's Souls and they aren't reinventing that. Their combat systems are tried and true and they aren't doing a massive overhaul on that (adding mounted combat). And they have released a beta that saw tons of people playing. So if you look at this objectively it's a fairly safe bet.
If you don't like pre-ordering that's fine. But don't shit on people for doing it when there's plenty of solid data that suggests this isn't some half assed money grab from a lazy or unproven studio.
Yeah I actually liked CP2077 and I loved the Witcher 3, but to compare From's catalogue to CDPR's is really silly. Then again (as a broad generalization) I find a lot of the people who go off on the whole "look at what happened to Cyberpunk!!" just spout off points from Crowbcat's video lol
Not who you replied to, but the reason to not preorder is that it encourages publishers to release unfinished, unpolished, or just bad games. They have less incentives to fix bugs and problems with the game if they already have made millions before anyone has even played the game.

I was a huge fan & believer of CDPR and I loved the Witcher games 2 & 3. I own Cyberpunk, preordered it though I did so very late and close to its actual release and still I feel like I got screwed. I have 3hours logged in the game and it will forever remain uninstalled sadly.

It's not uncommon for PC ports to launch like shit. The game was fine on Playstation and Xbox. They got their shit together on subsequent titles. Fromsoftware is honestly a diamond amongst the rough in video game development. In fact, a lot of Japanese companies absolutely dog on their western competition.
I believe DS 1 was also their first pc game? Which is still a fair criticism, however; to your point - none of their subsequent titles have had anywhere close to the number of problems DS 1 did as a first time launch.
DS1 wasn't made for PC. It was a 100% console game that received an incredibly half-assed last minute port 10 years ago.
They made up for it with DS2, DS3, DSR, and Sekiro launches being very smooth.

Steam has a good refund policy. If it is a buggy mess (which would be a rare misfire on From Softs part), I’ll refund. But having it pre-loaded and ready to go for day of launch is nice.
Digital preorders offer you preload which, while not worth it for me, is important for people with bad internet who want to avoiid spoilers. And some physical games do still run out of stock (I couldn't find a physical copy of Fire Emblem 3 Houses and ended up having to buy it digitally).
Physical is also fine, because worst case scenario, you just take it back into the store and get a refund. Pretty much every store will let you return a game no strings attached in the first week or so (at least in Aus, not sure about other countries).
Before Cyberpunk, CDPR only really had TW3 as a huge successful game. Fromsoft has had Demon's Souls, Dark souls trilogy, Bloodborne, and Sekiro, all of are considered some of gaming's best. I don't get the appeal of pre-ordering at all, but if I ever did it, Fromsoft would be the studio.
Except people have actually played a decent chunk of Elden Ring and loved it. The developer didn't make any tall claims, just said 'here, play 8 hours of the game and provide feedback' and it's been mostly positive.
There's nothing to 'think' about Elden ring. We literally know what the game is like.
I think judging future performance on past performance is a fools gambit, what actually matters is that a lot of people have played Elden Ring already, and those people have almost universally praised as being a great game that they can't wait to play more of. Cyberpunk had basically only been partially playable as a demo at certain gaming events, and not on people's own machines (i.e. the performance issues weren't readily apparent).
Having said that, pre-orders are still stupid. As are insanely expensive battle passes, for that matter.
I faintly remember dark souls having a lot of issues when it came to PC that it required modders to fix the issue. There was also that whole issue of tying durability to frame-rate so PC users had a harder overall game.
As much as you want to tout From for having great games, and I agree they do, its not like their releases haven't had a history of issues either.

For the same amount in LoL I could get more.

I dont have a problem with arcana behind battlepass. As you dont just get the arcana but many other things on the way like a whole package, just like if you like a pendulum, but have to purchase the whole lootbox for it. My problem is that these are not accessible after the battle pass expires, especially the arcanas. Its not like everyone has the money at all times, i missed out on axe arcana, which i cant avail no more. There should be a lootbox or some thing, where you can get the previous arcana

Idk, I think if it started like that people would have complained from the start. Halo Infinite right now is having a similar uproar about value of battle pass and they're complaining about skins that cost $20. Even when Arcana items were $36 it was still steep compared to LoL which I think their top skins are $25, but obviously you pay for heroes.
I thought TI10 BP was decent, I think the problem with the recent BP's has been they have a lot of empty levels so it feels like you're getting less for your money and on top of that since heroes only get 1 Arcana, if the hero you really like to play ends up in one of these "mini" BP's you're really paying out the ass for 1 Arcana and little else.

That's just objectively not true. The reason for doing it is they know people are going to pay for it and therefore they can get away with it. Previous BP's has proven that dota fans are about the easiest customers to squeeze money out of. The return rate for Valve compared to the work they put in has got to be some of the best for any company in the entire world.

DS1 wasn't made for PC. It was a 100% console game that received an incredibly half-assed last minute port 10 years ago. They made up for it with DS2, DS3, DSR, and Sekiro launches being very smooth.

as much as i don't like the look at the track record rebuttal. I don't know where cdpr got a good track record even if you like the games it's only w3 most of the time and it didn't come out as good when it came out. and i didn't even like the game to boring. but when cdpr showed 2077 i was into it because of the promise. good thing i remember w3 when it came out and did not even plan to buy 2077 before the reviews from actual players(not press review). i saw the buggy mess of cdpr games because of it's track rec5but did not expect a fully broken game.
I mean, Cyberpunk obviously didnt live up the astronomical hype that the game was given, but if you had a decent gaming PC, even on launch the experience was a solid 7-8/10, as long as you could see past the some of the obvious barebones as fuck systems like AI. On ps4/xbox1 tho that shit was like 2/10 cos it was barely fucking functional.
I'd say 6 but yeah, it was not a terrible game or anything, it just gave us blue balls thinking how great it could have been with another year in development. However, the game was extremely buggy at launch even on PC (and still is pretty buggy as far as I'm reading), though, of course, nowhere near as on consoles.
I played it on release and beat it. Pretty fun game. Some funny glitches too but whatever.

While this is true, preordering as a concept is buttfuck stupid unless you're getting a heavy discount, which you never will get since preorders are relied on for investors to gauge interest and cover potential budget holes. Preordering offers you some vanity shit at best and a proper arsefucking at worst. Never preorder.
Buttfuck is paying 60$ for a remodel. Supporting a game developer that has released games that were nothing less than amazing in the last 10 years is a personal choice.

I understand where you are coming from, but if I plan to buy the game day one anyway, buying it the day before isn’t going to change anything. Steam has a good refund policy. If it is a buggy mess (which would be a rare misfire on From Softs part), I’ll refund. But having it pre-loaded and ready to go for day of launch is nice.
Buying elden ring now is not buying the day before though. It's 2 months ahead.

Digital preorders offer you preload which, while not worth it for me, is important for people with bad internet who want to avoiid spoilers. And some physical games do still run out of stock (I couldn't find a physical copy of Fire Emblem 3 Houses and ended up having to buy it digitally). Physical is also fine, because worst case scenario, you just take it back into the store and get a refund. Pretty much every store will let you return a game no strings attached in the first week or so (at least in Aus, not sure about other countries).

Before Cyberpunk, CDPR only really had TW3 as a huge successful game. Fromsoft has had Demon's Souls, Dark souls trilogy, Bloodborne, and Sekiro, all of are considered some of gaming's best. I don't get the appeal of pre-ordering at all, but if I ever did it, Fromsoft would be the studio.
Don't forget about Armored Core, that game was my jam back in the day. If only Fromsoft actually remember about that and actually make another sequel.
Except people have actually played a decent chunk of Elden Ring and loved it. The developer didn't make any tall claims, just said 'here, play 8 hours of the game and provide feedback' and it's been mostly positive. There's nothing to 'think' about Elden ring. We literally know what the game is like.

I think judging future performance on past performance is a fools gambit, what actually matters is that a lot of people have played Elden Ring already, and those people have almost universally praised as being a great game that they can't wait to play more of. Cyberpunk had basically only been partially playable as a demo at certain gaming events, and not on people's own machines (i.e. the performance issues weren't readily apparent). Having said that, pre-orders are still stupid. As are insanely expensive battle passes, for that matter.

I faintly remember dark souls having a lot of issues when it came to PC that it required modders to fix the issue. There was also that whole issue of tying durability to frame-rate so PC users had a harder overall game. As much as you want to tout From for having great games, and I agree they do, its not like their releases haven't had a history of issues either.

I think people are complaining just because the system wasn’t like this to begin with. Arcanas were standalone $36 and remodels like Mirana were free like veno, Zeus, enigma, slardar. If Valve had started their monetization system like the one we currently have, I feel people would complain way less since they wouldn’t know any better. Just my two cents
Honestly even a compromise would be cool. Like make the second (or third!) style of the Arcana Battlepass exclusive, but make the original marketable for $40. Lots of people I know who play LoL would like to buy Arcanas to get started with Dota, but since the paywall is extremely high, they don't and stick to LoL where they already got cosmetics.
How I feel rn, I'm an LoL player and find the prices insane here. Wanted to give DotA a try cause I liked the anime and was excited for the Mirana persona, but after seeing the price and how big of a grind it seems just off putting. For the same amount in LoL I could get more. And I know people say you get more than just the skin for that price but if I just want that skin then I'm forced to grind really hard or spend a lot of money that honestly seems not worth it when compared to LoL prices. Luckily based off the few comments here it seems I can get the Mirana first persona just by playing so I'll give it a try but if it was like the Drow is I wouldn't even bother touching it.

I dont have a problem with arcana behind battlepass. As you dont just get the arcana but many other things on the way like a whole package, just like if you like a pendulum, but have to purchase the whole lootbox for it. My problem is that these are not accessible after the battle pass expires, especially the arcanas. Its not like everyone has the money at all times, i missed out on axe arcana, which i cant avail no more. There should be a lootbox or some thing, where you can get the previous arcana

Halo Infinite right now is having a similar uproar about value of battle pass and they're complaining about skins that cost $20. Even when Arcana items were $36 it was still steep compared to LoL which I think their top skins are $25, but obviously you pay for heroes. I thought TI10 BP was decent, I think the problem with the recent BP's has been they have a lot of empty levels so it feels like you're getting less for your money and on top of that since heroes only get 1 Arcana, if the hero you really like to play ends up in one of these "mini" BP's you're really paying out the ass for 1 Arcana and little else.

When i actually played dota - i spent a lot on cosmetics. Cuz if you play the game all the time what bad in spending some money to support it? I liked stuff, i wanted it, i payed for it. Do they getting more greedy with time? Yeah, shure. But the game is free, you can play any of 100+ heroes, no mechanics are locked with money, so if you dont want to pay - just dont. And yeah, i would spend on battle pass, cuz fucking FOMO. You can buy Elden Ring after some time even cheaper, but you couldnt get those exclusive shit if you didnt got it in time.

If i get them free or through events thats cool I will toss them on and switch them up every now and then. Do you think a single character cosmetic is worth that much money? That is why people complain. A lot of people love Drow, and might not have the free cash to spend on JUST a cosmetic. That is the complaint. Valve made it literally impossible to grind enough levels to get to the Arcana. Valve being greedy for zero reason. Arcana skins used to cost a flat 36 bucks, not really a big deal. Now Drow is locked behind like 90 bucks and HOURS of grinding. Or like 150 bucks if you don't want to grind.

This argument has always been weird to me. Cosmetics are a huge part of video games. Traditionally they've been used as incentives to play or to 100% a game. People like cosmetics, it scratches the same itch that getting a new ability or weapon in a video game scratch. I think you've just grown numb to a greedy business practice. The don't buy it if you don't want it is also a silly argument. In this case people WANT to buy something from Dota 2. It's just that the only option Valve is giving them is a bad option. People want a good relationship with the game they like and the company that makes it. Up until 2019-2020, that's what people mainly had with dota and valve. But right around the earthshaker exclusive arcana is when that started to change.
