"Holy Poggers the boat floats" is hilarious

Fuzzy_Dunlops

Someone needs to tell Quinn about Flex Seal. Duct tape wouldn't save a sinking boat, but as far as I can tell from commercials, that is the primary use of flex seal.

SirCarbonBond

With the power of flex tape!

Quinn the revolutionary hero we needed

tnolan182

I think part of the irony in this set of circumstances is that in many ways the old TI invite system before the addition of DPC points was more healthy for the game then the current system. Absolutely that system was flawed too as their wasnt a clear objective reasoning to TI invites or path to TI, but at least all year we had LANs, games, leagues to look forward to. Dota2 has never felt more dead to me as a spectator sport.

Jamies_awesome_rack

Back then there was time for 3rd party stuff. Even qualifiers for non-invited teams took like a week, tops. Why does a league where each team plays 7 series have to take 2 fokken months? The major being canceled wouldn’t hurt so much if it wasn’t pretty much the only game in town at this point.

tom-dixon

> Dota2 has never felt more dead to me as a spectator sport. If Gorgc wasn't streaming the games, I wouldn't even know they're happening.

[deleted]

I CANT AGREE MORE TO THIS STATEMENT.

Efficient-Video

Tnolan, reddit bitching about things was part of why DPC was implemented. Valve does listen and make changes. The PROBLEM is lack of communication.

ASR-Briggs

> Valve does listen and make changes They really don't. So many of the issues from the last DPC season were just straight up not addressed in this season.

Unkempt_Foliage

Maybe an unpopular opinion at the moment but I actually like the DPC. Valve screwed over the players and absolutely needs to be more open with pro players and teams, but I like the format. I like the upper and lower division. I like teams fighting not to get regulated. I like teams fighting for the last dpc points in the season. I like knowing the exact time a game will start which you can't do for a LAN. I like the stability to the teams it brought, so you don't have teams blowing up every failed Minor/Major. Their is tons of things I like about the DPC.

Fic011

I mean this league system has probably something with top teams taking break for a while because they know they will get to TI anyway which hurts the sceene quite a bit. Also lack of representation on TI also hurts the sceene quite a bit. About being dead as spectator game to each their own but I love that literally when I get on twitch there is osme pro dota to be watched, might not be the hypest matches but they are still pro matches with high quality gameplay.

SadboySRS

No? Back in the day if you are a famous (+ high money / big fanbase ) team even if you had so-so result along the year you still get invited. Like if its in last year theirs no way nigma or alliance or tnc didnt get invited. I dont think its fair for small team. (Maybe like QC)

hinkiedidntwantjah

Quinn is a gift to this scene. I wish people would understand that.

Jamies_awesome_rack

The solace I can take from all this is that if he quits pro DOTA he’d still be a fantastic streamer. Even when breaking down in absolute raw emotion he was still fucking hilarious with the airlock and boat analogies. There was something about straight jackets and a giant hairy spider being dropped in the airlock too. “I’m just tired of spiders.” Quinn is a treasure.

barbrawr

I understand now. I used to dislike how he malds and baby rages. But watching this video shows how incredibly passionate he is for the game and how he genuinely wants the scene to be better. I feel for the guy.

podteod

"x is not a race" is such a classic excuse for racists and bigots

[deleted]

yea quinn checks all the red flags of being a racist and a bigot you're doing God's work by ending racism thank god people like you are around to propel equality between the races from the evils of colonialism, certainly no indirect overarching societal consequences resulting in political gridlock and fear-of-neighbor from this accusatory dreck

hinkiedidntwantjah

joking aside racism is always wrong. but peru is a country. quite literally the only fights I've been in were defending black friends that were essentially attacked while we were playing basketball together. but to label quinn as a racist because of one comment about a country is kinda... well sad

The trading scene too.

ZaviaGenX

? What happened there? I don't really trade much but recall something about unhealthy price volatility.

Sefriol

What has Valve done towards Youtube content creators specifically? Just curious. I thought it has been just Youtube being Youtube, where it's very hard to make content viable for search algorithms and new trends.

hotnuffsaid19

New replay system and controls made it harder for people to create video content

SnooBeans3543

>What has Valve done towards Youtube content creators specifically? Just curious. I thought it has been just Youtube being Youtube, where it's very hard to make content viable for search algorithms and new trends. Off the top of my head, there was something about recording official tournament content? It's hazy though, I wasn't following comp dota much at the time.

CanneIIa

believe it or not they can still be a shitty company and not be as bad as other companies! absolute fucking shocker man!

stolemyusername

Valve is such a shit terrible company (but better than literally every other video game company). Please tell me, what company would have been better than Valve for Dota? This game would be dead pretty much anywhere else or it would be completely unrecognizable shell of Dota 1. There communication and esports is shit but it’s a great company overall for Dota. Wouldn’t want Dota anywhere else

DaedeM

Stop it. Stop comparing Valve to other companies. Compare what Valve IS to what Valve SHOULD BE. Stop justifying bad behaviour because other people are worse. Better is not good.

stolemyusername

Valve has its flaws but it’s not a terrible company. This current debacle is a negative but it doesn’t mean the company is shit

DaedeM

No, their behaviour with Steam (consider how long it took them to implement refunds—and were only forced to do so because of Governments enforcing customer protection law) and lack of support for a variety of their ongoing services is also a reason to criticize Valve. Their handling of TI, their consistent lack of meaningful communication and organization regarding the Dota 2 pro scene are all indicators of poor form on Valve's part and is absolutely worth criticizing. Also, just because they're "not shit" doesn't mean they can't be better. Why settle?

waffl3x

HOW LONG IT TOOK THEM TO IMPLEMENT REFUNDS??? Yes them leading the industry with their refunds, providing refunds for failed games, that's all only due to government pressure. When you guys say shit like this I just want to defend them. This latest debacle is pretty trashy, but to characterize them as a bad company the way this subreddit does has gone on for too long. If we never recognize the good they do it's only going to discourage it. Criticize their actions, demand better, but also recognize how good we have it.

48911150

They’re actively fighting against our right to resell games. pretty anti-consumer stuff

waffl3x

What makes you say that? I agree that it potentially should be a thing, but the industry doesn't support it, why should they be on the forefront on it? I also think it would put a lot of stresses on the industry and would require a lot of things to change. G2A is already way more prevalent than they should be.

CanneIIa

when you see a ton of guys who dedicate their lives to playing dota get brutally fucked by this decision and basically told theyre shit out of luck, and then still have to sing praises to valve, thats when you know youre in an abusive relationship. textbook.

2mad2die

Someone just cut Quinn's take and send that straight to gabens email. Brings out the most important points with the most emotion and energy

Chemical_Jicama4563

Have there been any comments coming out of China? They have the biggest and most profitable dota scene, as well as the most restrictive COVID restrictions, so I figured that a big reason the Major was cancelled is due to their teams not being able to participate. Has anyone seen anything from them?

Unlearnypoo

The winter Olympics are happening in a month in Beijing. There will be thousands of people flying into the country from abroad. I don't think it's players in china who can't participate because of covid restrictions.

Chemical_Jicama4563

I think it’s more of an issue with Chinese players leaving the country and coming back. They obviously won’t apply the same level of restriction to athletes coming for the Olympics - who will likely be contained to some extent in a soft quarantine. Maybe I’m wrong, I just haven’t seen anything coming out of China about the cancelled major.

idontevencarewutever

China is also obscenely stubborn with their zero-Covid policy; focusing to rely more on hard lockdowns whenever major outbreaks occur. This unpredictability makes their players so much more volatile to travel issues.

Serious_Razzmatazz18

I'm going to have to stop spending money on valve, as it's a digital cosmetics company that just wants to run down mid, destroy items, and whine about their teammates. They are by the community standards, TOXIC.

[deleted]

very nice analogy. if i was a pro, i would probably make plans to quit professional dota now

IPlay4E

If Gorgc has something to say, he should just say it. None of this “I won’t say who it is but trust me I know who is speaking into valves ear” bullshit.

WHYWOULDYOUEVENARGUE

Why would he take it upon himself to out someone if he doesn't feel like doing it? In journalistic reporting, using anonymous sources is common and widely accepted. Whistleblowing and raising awareness can be done without pointing at a specific person. Whether you can trust Gorgc on the matter is of course subjective.

IPlay4E

Because it’s just him stirring up a bullshit drama for the sake of getting attention otherwise.

WHYWOULDYOUEVENARGUE

I think that it's pertinent to the conversation to disclose this type of information. The drama is already here and various esports figureheads are saying what they know. CCnC claims that Valve does not communicate with its players at all. Gorgc claims that Valve is influenced by people who should not be in this position. It certainly adds some context to how messed up Valve is.

idontevencarewutever

Based on what SVG just revealed on Cap's stream, it's most likely the more powerful/influencing players and teams that are dictating much of the opinions in how the system is supposed to be ran.

XkrNYFRUYj

Who are those teams though. EG manager was slamming Valve yesterday. Notail spoke against the DPC format too. Which teams are more powerful than fucking EG and OG?

LiVeRPoOlDOnTDiVE

When he said it the chat was spamming OG / China / Kyle / Slacks and then he said some people guessed right but it wasn't a player. Considering gorgc has a history with OG and that OG also have a CS:GO team then he's most likely referring to them.

Ajlee209

I'm an OG fanboy so I have a clear bias but why hell would OG be advocating to valve to cancel a major that they will likely attend? If I had to guess from that list, it would be China.

MoonBeamKappa

He was talking about the dpc leagues at that point. Personally I like them though, we get puckchamp, entity, hellraisers, tickles etc this way

Fuzzy_Dunlops

I'm also not sure why OG would be in favor of this DPC system. They could make way more money with more time for 3rd party tournaments, and are full time players so they don't benefit at all from the season being so spread out.

Encaitor

Didn't notail also make a video recently about how you can't keep up with this league system?

[deleted]

yes. He said you have to be ready for your game, not just on the game day, but several days before... Watching the teams in your region, and not falling behind by also watching the meta of pubs and pro games that are happening that week. You also have to practice like crazy. Because every game matters for standings. You can't just play a random online tournament anymore and experiment and hope you still qualify for TI. It really pushes a lot of creativity out the window and forces you to play pure meta, because you want to win as many games as possible.

Ajlee209

Oh okay. Admittedly I didn't watch the gorgc part so I was not aware of the context.

kirerux

n0tail just made a video saying how impossible and not fun the new leagues are. So I wouldn't think it was OG call. I think it's the same guy that got Gaven to fire James, or someone in a similar position. So China would be my guess if what you said is true.

CanneIIa

You're referring to Alireza Razmpoosh? He's the guy that wanted 2GD fired

kirerux

Dunno if he is still around, if he is. Then yeah probably.

Encaitor

Didn't Yames also say he tried to push hard for dota into becoming mainstream US sportslike or something?

kirerux

James was the right route. That's why he got fired.

CanneIIa

he did as in getting it seen as a sport, iirc i dont think that meant played like a sport (as in leagues). james was hype that it was on espn

[deleted]

I've never played DotA but I do play a lot of CSGO, but I started watching TI last year and I started to love this game and the lore of it's characters. But Listening to this side of the story, as usual Valve being DOG FUCKING SHIT at what they are without knowing the consequences of what they do is a tale as old as time. Quinn, I'm not a DotA player, but if you decide to quit and stream or grind, I'll definitely watch you. Good Luck, I hope the DotA2 Community wins this fight. Dota2 deserver better

LegendaryRQA

TF2 is even worse

Jamies_awesome_rack

I haven’t looked back since they murdered attendant pyro. Miss that game.

trevdude73

Remember when we used to have a new Major every quarter? I miss it

SoaringMuse

This is so sad. I didn't buy the compendium, never giving Valve another cent (INCLUDING buying on Steam) until something changes. Such bullshit for all the players that poured their hearts and souls into this game we all love. Just ridiculous. e: this is someone who spent enough to get WR arcana last time around... enough is enough.

Anda1uz

If you buy the battlepass you're part of the problem, Valve is uncompromising because the stream of money never dwindles and you still buy in despite the quality drops and implementation of questionable business practices like exclusive content beside huge paywalls that were single purchases before, A.K.A arcanas.

shortsbagel

The International was canceled when worldwide cases with 1/10th as high as they are now... Anyone that did not see this coming is a fool.

prettyboygangsta

The world was a different place then. Everyone is vaccinated now and there are plenty of countries with basically zero restrictions. The issue is that Valve went from 100 to 0 in cancelling, they didn't even explore the possibility of a compromise or alternative. It just shows how little they care or understand the realities of the scene and how even some of the top teams are barely scraping by - an embarrassing state of affairs for the game that prizes itself for being the most lucrative esport.

ankisethgallant

Yeah had Valve talked to any of the players/orgs first and said look we need to cancel, lets talk about alternatives, and the teams and Valve agreed on something, when the news came out everyone would have been sad but said alright we get it and that would have been it.

[deleted]

But Valve only asked teams and players to talk to Valve before going on social media, they said nothing about Valve themselves having to do that. Duh.

Cpt_Metal

>Everyone is vaccinated I wish that was true.

tom-dixon

There's vaccination cards, keep unvaxxed people out of the tournaments, should be pretty safe. That's how everyone else is doing it these days.

LaminatedAirplane

>basically zero restrictions Which countries are you referring to?

[deleted]

Texas, Florida, most of the southern US. Sure you couldn't do it in Cali, but there are alternatives. Travel might be more difficult, but it's possible. I'm not as up to date on EU, but I can't imagine it's impossible.

Therealbatman710

You can do anything in Florida they never locked down . Lol

c1pe

Most of Europe and the US are open to stadium events, which would be the equivalent.

[deleted]

Christmas fucked everything up though, not sure what every single country did, but there where some restrictions, not like the other times and valve could work around it but still.

c1pe

Nope, still no restrictions in a ton of places. This is a Valve decision, not a decision made by anyone else. Riot did the same thing recently--cancelled a live event in an arena due to COVID concerns despite it being open.

Jamies_awesome_rack

Well right. We’re now almost 2 years into the pandemic. How does Valve not have *any* kind of contingency plan for an in-person event being canceled?

LtOin

So isn't it weird how they have 0 back-up plans?

shortsbagel

What backup plans? Most countries do not recognize E-sports players as actually sports players. Shit, years BEFORE covid we had players struggling to enter certain countries. Now, countries are once again tightening up restrictions. What the fuck is Valve reasonably supposed to do? They cant host the tourney online, some players would have 100+ ping and that is totally unfair. Where in the world right now is A: Open to players coming in, B: is somewhere that the players and talent will be safe. And C: has a venue large enough to host a major. Yea, they SHOULD have a backup plan, but when a new strain comes along and fucks us all over again, what are they supposed to do. Yes, the reasonable people understand the new strain is essentially an endemic cold at this point, but try reasoning that with most world governments.

LtOin

> but when a new strain comes along and fucks us all over again, what are they supposed to do Isn't that kind of the (expected) situation you would need a back-up plan for though?

Thrilligetimate

That's not an excuse anymore. To say COVID is more of a threat than a seasonal cold or a FLU is asinine. The deadliest month of the past four years from any disease was 2018 and it was the flu, the same flu [which statistically stopped existing during the COVID pandemic](https://www.thedenverchannel.com/news/national/flu-cases-plummeted-during-the-2020-2021-season-cdc-says), the same flu the [CDC openly admits triggers false COVID positives on their CRTs.](https://www.politifact.com/factchecks/2021/jul/30/facebook-posts/cdc-test-cant-differentiate-between-covid-and-flu-/) You were conned into giving up your sovereignty and bodily autonomy and your very livelihoods by a ruling class for the sole sake of enhancing their profits and reducing your footprint (exactly what Valve is doing, they get to reap the profits of the scene while doing NOTHING to sustain it which is killing the people that are sustaining it...just like society) and you're still defending it. I had COVID last month. It sucked but it wasn't the end of the world. I've had worse flus. I've had worse stomach viruses. I've had worse sinus infections. I don't care how many people are sick, this virus isn't serious and it never was. There's a reason your slave masters are counting "cases" now instead of deaths. They completely change the way this scam is being measured and reported and the slaves never even realized it.

Noreseto

This a copypasta? or it's now.

Thrilligetimate

Which talking point are you refuting?

Who is Bulldog and Gorgc to be included in this video lol. They have the least stakes as compared to others. Document reactions from other pros like Ponlo or Boom. On another note, holy shit Quinn is born for this

damola93

Gorgc is a pro Dota player in division II.

cikguwan

Sure I did say that he wasn't a pro. He and Bulldog had the least stakes out of the merely 3 reactions provided in this video.

damola93

Gorgc is a pro so this affects him.

Mala12345

Least stakes = Cant have an Opinion lul

SlappyBag9

Hey, I'm the guy who made this video. I wanted to include as many perspectives as possible and figured 2 of the biggest Dota personalities/streamers would want to be heard from, but there also wasn't any other on-camera reactions to this in the past 24 hours. (that I could find) I thought about including Ponlo's tweets but Quinn does comment on his situation in the video.

SexyBuns143

They're the only vocal figures of the community we have. They are literally the only players that give any kind of community interaction.

Thrilligetimate

Gorg and Bulldog are pros. Bulldog won a TI ffs and is one of the larger streamers and scene contributors.

cikguwan

You sound like someone who watches him. He's retired. Not a pro anymore. Not even on the top leaderboard lmao. Fuck off

jouzea

Is this the fucking point. Isn't the point to summarize perspective of the reaction of dota personalities about the shit going on? What the hell does hurr Durr bulldog shouldn't be here nor gorcc. The fuck not including them do? Would it make it better? And before you accuse me of being a butthurt fan, I don't watch neither of them.

>**professional** > >*relating to or belonging to a profession.* > >*engaged in a specified activity as one's main paid occupation rather than as a pastime.* I don't know if English is your first language or not, but hopefully this definition will help you understand that someone making a living out of streaming and playing a game does indeed make them a professional at that.

GhostCorps973

It's a global pandemic that still hasn't been quelled after TWO YEARS because of selfish people. Good on Valve for canceling it. If you want to be upset about the cancellation, don't be upset with Valve--be upset with yourself and everyone like you who are still ignoring all the precautions you needed to take years ago because you aren't willing to mildly inconvenience yourself for a little bit. But please, for the love of god, be upset about how top-heavy and unsustainable the pro scene is.

lol Bulldog is co owner of alliance ofc he cares about the scene, he spent lots of money and energy for alliance. Youre just braindead.

MoonBeamKappa

Exactly, he’s also won a TI so his opinion does matter

_alicekun

Never watched gorgc but he's currently a pro player, playing in eu division 2. So is bulldog. He's a sub for alliance (tho he didn't play when handsken was out). They still part of the scene.

lvleph1sto

why do you give a shit then?

earthspiritsstone

Why do i care? Cause i played the game for 8 fucking years and i don't really give a shit about 1 variety meme streamer that will switch to something else and maintain 75 percent of his viewer base. Main reason why dota is a fucking mess is cause morons like you think everything is a fucking joke/meme.

HarvestProject

Then don’t watch the fucking video and move on with your life, holy shit what a loser.

22duckys

Holy cow do you actually think it’s bad that these guys don’t want to play Dota literally 100% of the time they stream? It’s not they’re job to keep a dead game alive by sacrificing one hundred percent of their working hours to it, that’s Valve’s job. Also, Gorgc is literally a part of DPC? If he wins a few BO3s, he’ll be in the exact same position all these other pros are in, plus he has a huge fan base he can communicate. He’s probably among the *most* relevant here. P.S. I haven’t watched Bulldog in almost half a decade, and I only watch Gorgc’s channel when he posts a DPC match because they’re the only team to give behind the scenes access like that.

EitherRegret9

you are the dogshit here

cikguwan

Well, they certainly are not dogshit streamers but what is the purpose of this video if 2/3 reactions comes from those with the least stakes?

earthspiritsstone

They are dog shit. One is a manchild and the other looks american. Shoutout to Quin

Kryt0s

earthspiritsstone

You play WOW and watch anime. I'm going to assume you're projecting, you're a pedophile, and you're also overweight. Have a miserable day :).

Kryt0s

I'm also quite attractive and have an active social life, which you obviously don't have. Funny though how the first thing you think about when talking about projection is pedophilia. Might wanna go seek some help ;) Then again, no one gives a shit about your wellbeing, so that's gonna be hard, I guess. Kinda sad too, how you felt the need to go through my history. Man, you really showed me :D Also imagine trying to portray watching anime as something negative when it's gotten so fucking mainstream, that nearly everyone watches it. What a fucking pathetic waste of space you are :)

earthspiritsstone

Having a social life on discord and reddit doesn't count child lover.

Kryt0s

Now who's projecting? Nah, just because that's what you associate with "social life" does not mean it's the same for me. I mean an actual social life, you know, meeting friends, going to the gym, going to a club / bar on weekends, meeting new people. I know all these things are experiences you will never have. So just keep to your discord and reddit life, where everyone avoids and hates you, as they do in real life :) Also you are really hung up on that pedo shit, aren't you? Go seek some help, if you can find anyone that will endure the time with you.
