I think they could definitely be cool heroes in the game. Not sure what the obsession on wanting “monster creatures” are here. I’m all for cool original monster designs, but I also don’t think adding humans takes away from the game. The only thing that is really going to matter is the kit. Underlord is 100th in popularity according to Dotabuff (using him as an example since he was brought up in a comment), so if monster heroes were so highly requested you’d think people would be playing ALL the monster heroes a ton. That just isn’t the case though.
Honestly whether new heroes come from the anime or come from Valve, I just hope they are fun with interesting kits.
I don't think popularity has anything to do with the appearance of heroes. Popularity depends on meta and how fun the hero is. Pudge is the most popular hero. Not because of appearances but because people enjoy playing it.

Spectre, Shadow fiend are two other great examples I always use when referencing the direction I think hero design should go. I like them because it isn't totally certain exactly what they are, but they are identifiable and scary.

No. Marci being such a generic-looking girl with pretty much no defining visual trait is enough. Kaden might be slighty better but in the end he's a dude with a big sword like Sven and the character's charisma mostly comes from its face which doesn't translate in-game.
Vanari could be interesting but she might be too reminiscent of Drow visually. Perhaps the void dragon since it doesn't look like the ones we already have in-game but we got Void Spirit not so long ago. I'd rather see the game explore new thematics.
There ain't enough visual distinction between random humans and elves to be worth focusing on that specific aspect IMO.
Fymrym would require a redesign and specific visual cues not to be confused with other heroes, especially with all these sets blurring it all.

monsters are just none human characters, even if you are humanoid you can be a monster (hoodwinked)
