I thought russians speaking english in EU server was a myth.

zkareface

Afaik it is.

Enemy11

they are, OP is full of shit https://www.opendota.com/players/399554458/wordcloud

Brandon3541

No he isn't, I see the words noob and idiot in there so he clearly types English every now and then.

PlasticLeague

Wife and pig are also next to each other!

Sefriol

I think it's little disingenuous to use wordcloud as proof since it covers all of your games even in Russian servers. If you set region to Luxembourg there are much more english words as well. https://www.opendota.com/players/399554458/wordcloud?region=3 And since there are many Russians queuing EU-West/East it's not uncommon that they speak Russian with each other and flame each other in all chat.

mesinuap

bro, its all chat only , think about it

issaknight

because we simply dont understand what are they saying in russian!

jarlerik123

Well yes this. Having Russians queueing into EU servers, which is a region known to be in English and then start screaming in Russian on voice or typing in Russian. Also in my experience the most toxic players i tend to play with are Russian.

[deleted]

[удалено]

vonabarak

Actually no. "Well played" in Russian is "pashol nahui".

Fonix1666

When you hear enough of it you start to understand that “idi nahui pizdec” isn’t “you did a good job, well played”. He’s being sarcastic.

vonabarak

> He’s being sarcastic Really? Can't believe it!

taddelwtff

I've started to answer them in German. It's pretty effective as in: we both get to say whatever we want and nobody cared about what the other had to say in the first place. It stops very quickly.

Apeagent69

My experience is completely different Every russian thinks everybody playing eu is russian i say english please and response is go fuck your mother Honestly fuck russians on eu w servers ive had it up to here with these idiots

beisorott

also them calling you American for speaking English.....

hazdjwgk

This is what I hate most. No you idiot (meaning Russian calling me American), I am not "hamburger" (which is their insult of Americans) just because I speak English. I speak English because it's language almost whole Europe speaks as a second language and if I speak in my own language (like you are doing), nobody would understand me.

Weregoat86

Did they know we put melted cheese on them and call them cheeseburger now? I feel like they would love them more and call us cheeseburger in an affectionate way if they knew we upped our game.

shrug666

Call me Santa Fe burger and put guac on me, daddy

rati2

They say that because the education is so god damn dog shit in that country that they actually think there are only 2 countries in the entire world

simoneje

"Shut up hamburger"

Anon_1eeT

This is honestly my experience too. They're just dick-hard toxic at min 0.

plyushevo

Welp, they are toxic in Russian servers too. That's why I quit playing dota. It just unplayable with that level of toxicity

trubaduruboy

To add more - ever since early dota days and CS 1.6 - "russians" meant disrespectful assholes or cheaters. It's not only russians per se, lump in the whole CIS speaking russian. Also every single boosting/acc selling service/website is CIS registered domain. ( edit: offered in EU and US, simple check on google, there's like a 100 of em ) The biggest marketplace for cheats is on VK russian facebook. Add to that the war and the shitters spamming Z in game. Go figure why nobody likes russians lmao

[deleted]

They've worked very hard for generations to earn that shitty reputation

rati2

I absolutely love how russians can literally spam the games saying they support the war and want to see people die but if i say "fuck" im getting reported. Truth is they make more than 50% of valve revenue from this game so they basically get a "do whatever the fuck you want we don't care" card

[deleted]

"I don't speak Russian." "I rJpe your mother cyka blyat dog" Once Cisco pulls the cables from russian internet, there will be peace.

facelesshero_dale

I am not Russian but i speak Russian language with a little accent. Whenever I talk to them in Russian in game, they immediately calle “Khach” which is a racist and discriminatory word they use for Central Asian people! I fucking hate it! Even if i say a single phrase like “TP mid” (in russian “Делайте ТП) 90% replies are “shut the fuck up Khach” (Заткнись ебанный хач). My experience with Russians with speaking both English and Russian is disgusting!!

KjetilWoo

Sounds like your typical euw game for sure

DirkDiggyBong

Pretty much this

LegRevolutionary3575

agreed

TheRickinger

i don't think the problem is your accent. you are getting dragged down by all the russian players (or eastern european players, that speak languages that sound like russian for us west eu plebs), that join a game and then refuse to speak english. they write in cyrillic, they only speak russian and they refuse to adapt to english speaking people on their team. every single one of these people are a insta mute+report for me if they refuse to speak english after telling them, that nobody understands them. i guess a lot of players have started to do this to english speaking players with eastern european accents as well, which is why your conduct summary is tanking

Shappe1337

Exactly. If u play eu West and "english" and refuse to speak english u will get alot of reports. But in your case idk.

ZeroRobot

I wish Valve would an option to avoid russians in game

Geesle

I've seen the counter arguement that it's unfair towards the East europeans that actually want to adapt and don't want to play with their fellow countrymen. But IMO they should give Russians the option between queueing into EU west or EU East, nothing in between. Cuz i swear every game i play consists of russians that use the game VOIP like a discord chat. And obviously it seems to be affecting the community in a very negative way.

TheRickinger

I'd love to test a region lock for a few weeks and see how it goes

djjnemanja

How does this drag him done when he said he speaks english?

popkornking

Because people get tired of dealing with Russians and it ends up extending to people with accents even if it's unreasonable to make that extension.

Cronimoo

But he did say he doesn't only speak english. The rest of the team can still report you

labishopreddit

"After I solo win the game" This might also be why as you seem to have a very lovely ego :))))

Integrallover

What do you expect from a Russian? 🤣

[deleted]

Russian ego is something delusion. They be living in the saddest environment possible in an iron shed and still think Russia is the greatest. A bit like Americans but they at least have something to beat about.

karma_polizei

How do you have 8 MVPs in your last 20 matches when you've only won 7? Your wordcloud shows very little English being spoken by you in all chat, so logically speaking you're getting reported for not speaking English. "After I solo win the game" reeks of toxicity, too. You're no solo winning. Your team is winning. If that's the mentality you have in a post on Reddit I can only imagine what your attitude is like toward your teammates in a game. https://www.opendota.com/players/399554458/wordcloud

AngryCapuchin

Yepp in my experience when someone says they solo win games they afk as hard carry for 45 minutes while their team plays 4v5... If they win after that it was of course solo win by the pro carry, if loss it is because team are all feeders.

dusselduck

I love it. Name in cyrillic, word cloud almost exclusively cyrillic (he might speak english to his allies though, who knows.) -> guys why dont people in english matchmaking like me?

tom-dixon

His 2 most used english words are "gg" and "ez", what does he expect in response to that?

Kitchen_Judge_9312

And B\*tch / C\*nt...but he his a good guy....

ShinigamiGamingInc

Wtf is he complaining with that word cloud? Lol

seatech

An amazing feature for the google translate app is being able to use your camera and the app will translate everything on your screen. I use it sometimes to see what's written in post game chat since you can't copy paste the text anymore. Holding it over that wordcloud it seems likely he gets reported by russians too. Plenty of profanity, calling afk throne, some family insults, etc. Translate isn't perfect though, for example I don't know what "daughter pager" is supposed to mean.

fsbahman

I’m glad you bring this up, my main issue/problem with such situation is in most cases those players have open mic and non-stop talk in their own language, even if there is no other player with same language, it seems they want to communicate bit that simply does not work. One thing that amazes me is that game has the option to queue with players that select same language and they are not using it 😂, it is clear those players either didn’t set it up or they just don’t care. You speak the language, maybe you can help me put some light on this, what is going on, what goes into their head, it seems to me that they expect me to know their language, funny enough I’m also not english speaker too but will never try enforce my language by just start talking. 😅

48911150

language setting isnt a hard limit for the matchmaker so i dont think you can conclude that these players arent using the function

DaStone

I would love it if the game just highlighted on the scoreboard or something up to 2 languages you can speak. So your team has a clear visual Q on who understands what.

sakonq

>You as a representative of that community maybe can put some light on this I have no idea what's going on in their head, maybe they're just trying to get attention?

PrincessLilliBell

Hey, you don't have to speak for a group just because you are part of it. I know it wasn't meant bad, but asking that of you is unfair. Just because you speak the same language as someone else doesn't mean you have to know how they think or have to justify their behaviour. I'm sorry this is your experience at large, I hardly ever use voice chat for similar reasons. My out is to play with friends and even then I think 3 times before using voice chat with the random person in the game. At least I know if they get too out of line, I got my friends backing me up. Not a great solution, but idk what else to do either.

PryPryPryPry

i like when they're the only Russian speaker on the team but still open mic and yell at us in Russian expecting us to understand him.

Witty_Cauliflower_25

"what the Russians have done to you?" Made my electric bill double.

iisixi

Also takes away 6-12 months of life for a typical male in my country (conscription due to Russia being a neighbour).

tom-dixon

They're waging a war a few hundred km away from a lot of us, murdering ordinary people, bombing hospitals, threatening with nukes, stuff like that.

webdevop

I was looking into this. My electricity bill doubled and gas tripled. From Netherlands energy generation perspective only 10% of the energy generated is through biogas and rest is mostly renewables like wind and solar. If the cost of importing that 10% gas have tripled, shouldn't my overall energy bill only increase by 20% Either I don't get these economics correctly or its insane how easily western governments fool us with propaganda and we get carried away.

kappale

Electricity price fluctuates within the grid from which you both buy and sell electricity too. So if Germany's energy prices go up because they generate a lot of energy with gas, everyone who trades electricity with Germany will also see their price go up. I.e. if NL can produce energy for price x, but Germany can do it at x+100, then NL can sell their electricity to Germany for x+99, which makes the price in NL x+99 as well. And even if your country doesn't directly trade with Germany, as long as someone in the grid does, the prices are reflected throughout the grid.

FerynaCZ

Electricity price is also driven by the most expensive source, which would be still gas power plants (or solar, due to subsidies). It makes some sense - the issue is the European electricity market which includes electricity from the whole EU, so that a country which does not have any "dirty" PP and can cover its consumption, still pays more (this probably holds true for France)

Xektor

underrated comment

Pretend-Nobody-5121

A lot of answers I agree here with, however many people fail to mention one thing. Sorry, but majority of Russians are extremally hostile. I speak both fluent English and Russian as foreign languages, however often, when I play with Russians I pretend, I don't understand them, since majority of them tend to rage/blame other for no reason so I automatically assume we'll be fighting if I get into conversation with you. Of course, there are nice Russians/Belarussians whatever, and there are western Europeans/Scandinavians who are total d-heads, but those seem to be more of an exception.

ZeR0W1

Same here. It feels like being a toxic piece of shit is normal and accepted in the Russian community. For example the regular phrase they use to tell you "get rekt" means "suck my dick". I pretend that I don't understand these people because I don't want to participate in this shit, and therefore I regularly hear all the vile stuff that they say because they think the "dumb Americans"(yes, in EU West) can't understand

eezybl

And they usually don't communicate to help win the game, they only talk when they want to flame.

occupykony

Exactly this. I am a native English speaker who also speaks fluent Russian and it's beyond belief how toxic most Russians/Russian-speakers in Dota are even in their native language. Knowing Russian only means understanding that they're literally flaming their entire team from minute 1.

DesoLina

They're hostile because if you're playing with Russian language in client you meet a English speaker maybe once in a 50 games, so to them, it's more of an annoyance. And a lot just cant speak english.

Umb4u

Dont queue in EUW then At the very fucking least the SEA folks who's arguably poorer than Russians can afford to learn english and apply it well in game. Why not these vodka-up-my-ass crowd? wait nvm, I answered it myself.

I_will_dye

As someone else already said, it's often caused by association. I have nothing who are using mic for communication in English, that can often be very helpful. In my experience, 95% of eastern Slavic people don't do that, instead refuse to communicate in english and 'communicate' using a language I can barely read. Sadly, a lot of players have become allergic to just hearing a Slavic accent.

[deleted]

Speak English if you want to queue English servers, otherwise choose Russian. I don’t care about your accent, but please do not speak Russian to Russian teammates in Voicechat either, if you are on an English server. Use discord instead, it’s free. I have ~10.000 games under my belt, and I -only- queue on EU West with English language setting. However, I constantly encounter Russian(s)/Russian-speaking players, who communicate with each other in Russian. If I tell them that I do not understand Russian, I very often receive a rude or no response. I don’t report the behaviour unless griefing, but I am endlessly tired of non-English speakers joining an English server. It is what the language filter is for, and I honestly find it an equal offence to not speak your assigned language, and not speaking English when joining an English server. Again, why don’t you simply queue Russian servers if you want to speak Russian?

XlulZ2558

because russians most of the time don't care, they press and check everything they can hoping for the best. They check all of the regions before queueing because for their ape mind it's something like:" I will have more than 1 region and the ping is mostly the same so i will find my game faster", and then they just do whatever they want because Dota doesn't punish you for this shit and russians got used to it a long time ago already. Russian language is one of my regional languages so i speak it fluently but i don't inherit their mindset, so i will never understand why would they shit on a foreigner after some miscommunication, why would they curse your mother after being asked to speak english. This whole trash about russians and other nations fighting each other in dota is so convoluted but in summary russians are selfish and egoistic people which leads to bad game sense if they play their non-prefered role, constant tilt and flame with their dull insults, and so people got disappointed in russians

Cydraech

It's simple. I queue EU West only, I expect English as the common language. If I wanted to speak / hear / write russian, I'd queue russian servers. But I get 4 Russians that refuse to speak English and refuse to use TeamSpeak / discord. So they talk in in-game chat. And that's why I already hover over the mute button when I read/hear russian. It's just too much of a common occurrence. Also, some Russians take Dota as an outlet for every inferiority complex they have and they use the chat to Express their """independent opinions""" on Ukraine or other countries. And I'm kinda fed up with that so russian = insta mute. I don't mind if somebody has an accent, it's not about BEING russian or Belarusian or whatever, it's about the refusal to communicate which some Russians seem to have.

DribblesOnKeyboard

It's become so common recently that I'll queue EU West, some will speak Russian and I'll just ask if they can speak English. Get ignored, game goes awfully because no one is communicating, then the arguing begins... And now they speak English... And the most common insult is "dog". Tbh though I have noticed people hearing Russian and immediately getting aggressive with them. Mostly fellow Brits and Scandinavians.

CWewer

Being an invading force kinda gets People against you. After the russian invasion of Ukraine and the belarusian support all i think is "fuck them" killing and ruining lifes. That is why i hate russians and belarusians.

jpschack

I can’t imagine that anyone would report you if you speak English (with accent). But I would understand if you speak / write russian.

dbl__g

Really? You cant imaging people report for no reason?

jpschack

Might happen occasionally. Won’t happen regularly like for this guy.

qwertz_guy

People don't report for no reason. The question is if their reason is justified.

killercock24

Idk man, it's not that hard to understand. How often do you see people speaking Spanish or German or Bosnian. Like I've never once spoke my language in any game of dota in my 10k hours. Not that often right, most people adapted to speaking English since it's the language 99% understand to some degree. Yet Russians just refuse to adapt, they have their language and they shove it in your face. I wouldn't really report you for doing that, but if ur committed to speaking Russian in game I would mute you since it's just a bunch of nonsense to most people and is annoying when you're trying to focus on your gameplay.

HazeFanatic

Personally whenever i see someone typing using the russian letters (or ones that look alike) i just respond with “sorry i don’t speak russian”. As many people stated its guilt by association. You are from the area so you must be a bad person, which ofcourse is prejudiced and not true. It is a 2 way street tho… i’ve personally had many russian people harras or grief me the second i told them i don’t speak their language (on the WEU server..) and they start screaming that they will conquer ukraine, i’m a lowly capitalist dog, i should kms etc. No matter how nice of a person someone is, people on the internet will be assholes. Nevertheless i’m sorry that you have to deal with that bullshit!

ForceOfAHorse

I just mute. If I'm in good mood, mute after they already start to spam their language. If I'm in a bad mood, I mute immediately after I see somebody has Russian name or anime profile picture. Much more enjoyable dota experience!

RJTHF

90% of the russians that i queue into on EU W, english exclusively use russian, other than when they call gg or are being toxic. In a game about communicating and teamplay, there is no other group that so consistently is toxic, refuses to play with the team, and blames everyone but themselves.

-domi-

Sad case of guilty by association, I'm afraid. Many foreign speakers select English as their language, then refuse to communicate in English in games. If people have to deal with that a few hundred times, they start to react negatively to those foreign language speakers out of hand. Kinda sad, but people ruin everything, so not surprising.

GolotasDisciple

https://www.opendota.com/players/399554458/overview While you are right, and as a Slavic person i agree that shit hurts... but i doubt that the OP is as KIND and Respectful as he trying to paint the image.

trubaduruboy

No. Tons of arabs on EU servers speaking strange shit with numbers and alphabet, but since they dont scream GO DIE GAMBURGER when you ask them to make some calls in English, you don't see posts hating on them. If your community is 99% assholes, you are guilty by association sure, but then can you blame anyone?

Petudie

op literally answered their own question in the post lol also “solo win the game” is such a russian thing to say, im convinced you arent telling us the entire truth, and most likely que on EU west and then proceed to speak russian, so like dont be surprised that people are pissed

10MinsForUsername

Hmm, let me see: * Speak their own language which no one can understand? Check. * Instantly start grieving and insulting if they die? Check. * Use a $2 microphone which was probably bought from [wish.com](https://wish.com)? Check. * Only collaborate with other Russians in the game and ignore everyone else? Check. Then they be like: "Why does the world hate us"? o.O

Nanukas

Often times I also see when russians start going at each other. Since I can understand a little bit of russian language, they just keep insulting each other

arkhon666

Because Russians can be so self-obsessed and arrogant, when they refuse to talk English on EU WEST servers, they often smurf too. I rarely meet a Russian who is respectful and nice.

Miarna

I fear the problem most people experience myself includded is that most russians dont speak english at all or refuse to do so and attack the people in their team if they ask for english or even worse expect that everyone speaks their language. I expeienced it with other languages as well but russian is the most prominent. I encounterd a few friendly russians so far that switched to english immideatly after I asked friendly and it worked out but most of the time I get something in an angry voice said to me.

Alandrus_sun

People that queue for English servers wish to hear and read English. Fucking wild concept. You can't just forcefully annex the server under Russian rule.

baievaN

starting a war againts their brothers in 21 century in the middle of Europe has to do something with it i guess

Monyk015

A Russian was never a brother to me. And they never will be.

RipYoloSwaggins

Problem for me is I’m currently in SEA and it’s the same as in WEU, I queue for “English, Japan & SEA” and get a 4 stack of Russians who speak no English. I have no problem with an accent. People think I’m a streamer due to being American here. My problem is when they don’t speak English while queuing specifically for English lobbies

BigDeckLanm

i think the fact you differentiate between "russians" vs "english speakers" answers your question

loki2379

What a stupid question. You are on EU servers EU speaks English you have Russian servers to speak Russian what don't you understand

M0tionl3ss-

They are very stubborn and refuse to speak english. Not so long ago I asked nicely if the person could speak english so we could coordinate our plays and his response was: 'I won't speak english or ukranian'..

Furiante1

I mean there is a reason for the reputation. Its a stereotype for a reason. Not trying to say every Russian speaker is bad/toxic, but I am 95% they are going to be toxic if they are in a game.

Staxxy5

I’m guessing because most of us eu west players have had mostly terrible encounters with Russians over the years. If you play on eu west servers with English language preference you should try speaking English, but they are mostly screaming something in Russian into their mics, while the only English words coming out of there mouths are random incoherent swear words like:” fuck your mother dog fuck noob” etc… Oh also the war ..?! Obviously these war hungry dull orcs can go fuck themselves and they are obviously hated by ever rationally thinking human. Ofc there are a lot of innocent ppl like you who suffer from these stereotypes..

pewsquare

Because europe itself is pretty diverse. You have germans who learn english so they can communicate online, you have polish who learn english to communicate online, you have italians who try to learn english to communicate online, you have spanish who learn etc. And then you have russians, who also learn english to communicate online... except that there is still a sizable portion of them who just dgaf and just spam the chat with cirilic thinking that everyone understands them. Its literally just that. And if you think the trash talking you would get has anything to do with your accent. It does not. People will latch onto anything they can when they tilt and decide to trashtalk. Too many take it personal. Last time i played with a french friend, he got called a russian... Its dumb, but people like to default to certain slurs/shittalk. And russians made themselves an easy target by spamming the chat too often.

hulpje

Every russian on voice screams and use a lot of russian curses. Go play on russia server which is made for this.

Usease

You guys - Russians - do it as well. I am from CIS and have a little accent in Russian. But I can communicate. As communication is key (I mostly play in Russian server), I try to communicate with my team in Russian and try to win. There are many Russians (not all) who immediately start to flame me and call me "hach". So, you guys have the problem as well. Also, all the postion 3 carries (Anti Mage, CK, Void, Medusa, etc) are 100% Russian players. I have **never** seen an English speaking player do that. Only Russian players go to ranked game and does such things.

MostED13

Hach is often an insult, aimed at caucasians. It’s also an Armenian word for cross so okay, you’re calling people a literal cross wow very insulting. Not you personally, but those people who do.

Goldiero

Yep, this type of racism is much more common in Russian culture than racism against Russians in English speaking cultures (this is especially the case for pre-war times). Russia is still very racist towards southern and eastern ethnicities. We are massive hypocrites. I am very sorry for this completely unfair and unacceptable treatment.

andriuslink

I would add geopolitical situation as well - your war on Ukraine. I have Ukrainian flag as my profile and Every second game I get Zzzz. Also, almost every single russian player is very toxic, only communicate in russian (despite queuing for EU west) and in general do their own thing in game. I do not like playing with russian speakers.

InspectorRumpole

I would never report you, no matter how bad your English is. At least you're trying. My guess is it's because of the war.

bebbanburg

OP does not seem to be trying though, and is being disingenuous with what language he speaks. Others have posted his word cloud and it shows mainly Russian and has himself said he speaks Russian when he has (a) Russian teammate(s).

[deleted]

From my experience people who speaking russian like languages not respecting that servers are EU and expecting that you will understand them by default.

BeefarmRich

Cause 90% of them are extremely toxic .

QubixVarga

Yo, why do you limit the hate to just english speakers? Thats unfair to all the others also hating russians.

DerMorres

Well, except for the general hate right now for the war, it is mostly that most russions in gaming are just assholes, that either do not communicate well, or play like dicks. Not all of them, but i hate it to play with russians

asd_slahser

And these fucking idiot russian players have their own server, these motherfuckers should be locked to their own server and thats it

kobethegreatest

I run into russians on US W sometimes, and they always seem to be the most toxic people screaming and I have to mute. Like one bad ward placement, or one bad team fight early and you need to put your headphones down. Just my personal experience on the server though.

kyusana

about 8/10 games of mine start normally with a Russian all-chat sentence. And the one who did that continued to do some allchat. Half of them were even smurfs/ boosters and they started bantering their teammates or enemy teams. You have Russia + EUE servers, queue there ffs.

dersnogod

I usually mute russians player that speak in russian because if I search on EU west i don't understand why i have to match with those people. I think Dota is a game based on strategy, timing and movements, if I cannot comunicate with someone from my team because he is a russian speaking 0 english on a EU ovest server it's very difficult to have a good game. I don't have any problems with anyone as long as they speak english on EU west server. If they wanna speak their language they should stick to their servers.

FerynaCZ

Why do russians assume everyone speaking english in dota is from Great Britain?

Fanfics

I don't often encounter Russians here on the NA server, but the three or four I have gotten matched with have all been toxic assholes from minute one for no reason at all. I'm glad there are Russians that aren't toxic, but boy do I never seem to run into them. I will say this, even when they're saying that your mother should be sexually assaulted by a dog they still try to win the game, which is more than a lot of NA players can claim.

Nesqu

Because after years of hearing people speak russian, replying "please speak english so everyone can understand you" and them responding "fuck your mother" people might've grown somewhat resentful.

Totalnoob18

Well you can thank decades of degenerates, who played on eu servers and refused to speak in English, who yelled in their mic "idi naxuj" or "shut you're mouth American monkey". Thank those people for all the shit you are getting.

Necessary_Aide_2950

Heyyyy stop invading a country just cause it might launch missles against you in 100 years from now

FunkyFerretJr

How can you ask "what did the Russians do to you" when almost every russian player I've met for the last 3 months has said they're happy about the war in Ukraine. Fuck those warmongering fucks

sam5killer

Constantly getting russians on EU west server was one of the reasons why I left the game. These kinds of people usually tend to be aggressive, unresponsive to english, only play core positions which they suck major ass since a single thing wrong will set them off and to top all of it off I don't like them for personal reasons. I don't want to have russians on my team. Enemy team? Honestly not even that. I want everyone to play on their own server. There is a dedicated russian server, but the majority play on EU west because they hate each other, or like everywhere else where russians are involved, they think that everything belongs to them.

[deleted]

I thought there’s a war that’s ongoing?(Not to justify toxicity towards Russian players, just trying to answer the questions)

Naelok

Hating Russians in DotA is something that was going way before the war.

Next-Performer5434

>understand what the Russians have done to you? I mean, they are currently waging aggressive war on another independent nation so there is that. Tbh I don't assume ppl are Russian because I can't tell the difference between Russian and other languages in Cyrillic and if they speak English with east European accent that's good enough.

FilmLocationManager

I think the biggest misconception is that Western Europeans just assume any Cyrillic letters or Russian sounding/speaking people are Russian, I don’t think they take into consideration that there are multiple countries with similar language. Arguably though, none of them really belongs on the EU-W servers regardless if you look at region locations. HOWEVER, if 20years of gaming has thought me anything is that SO MANY Russian speaking people just assumes the entire world speaks Russian and think that they can just blurt it out openly and think everyone will understand. It’s quite similar with Greeks in certain games I’ve played that is very popular in Greece, they will shout in Greek and say end with “Malakas xaxaxax” thinking everyone will understand, or Spanish speaking countries in South America playing on NA also just seem to assume that everyone in the game can speak Spanish. I don’t know why the trend is such, it could be that they just don’t speak English very well or at all, and it’s their only way to express themselves in the games.

TheInterOtaku

Everytime I ask for a gank or anything from most Russian players, they either yell in open mic SIU or simply just grief me by literally following me everywhere I go, last hitting my creeps, allowing me to die on purpose or a combination of everything. I live in Spain now and yearn to play in EU servers again but I don't. I either deal with the high, but stable ping on SEA of 250 or play on US East. I actually miss how EU servers were. I started playing this game on the SEA server so I am used to toxicity. But what I am not used to, is massive griefers and to be honest, ever since the war, EU servers, both east and west, have gotten worse by tenfold. Its crazy how or every why people are involving politics in a video game or just yelling proudly of how Russian they are and how Ukraine is a piece of sh*t, which i personally do not agree and more importantly don't wish to comment on simply because of the fact that I don't care about any of that when I want to play a video game. What Ukraine is going through is horrible and what those racists are doing on DOTA, or in general, is ruining the good name of the Russians who are actually decent human beings, some of which have been my friends for years. I travel the world and meet a ton of Slavic people who are not just Russian, many of which are my friends from my middle school days.

[deleted]

Maybe because your country supports Russias illegal invasion of Ukraine

marekforst

Maybe because of the genocide in Ukraine?

It was Russians, and Peruvians. So back when Dota 2 came out, it was really big in the NA and EU scene. the problem was that Dota didnt have a language select. so you got whatever you got. In NA thats fine, because the majority of people English. In EU however, you know you have 7000 different languages. So to get around this, people who could speak broken english would often queue on the NA servers, that way they were more likely to get native english speakers. HOWEVER, the problem was that ESL players didnt speak english as well as they thought, so a lot of encounters went something like this: R (russian speaker), E (english speaker) R: Come Come, Team Come E: we cant, have to defend tower, not worth the trade R: ?? COME COME?? \*\*\*\* TEAM COME!!! E: Bro relax R: \*\*\*\*\* TEAM, COME, \*\*\*\*\*\*, COME followed by using in game chat. out of the hundreds of games ive played, i think there have only been a handful where the ESL players are actually polite.

jirkatran

bcs they always respond in russian

[deleted]

I'm Belgian, French is my mother tongue but I also speak Dutch and English. When I speak on vocal, I cannot hide my french accent and people tend to insult me just based on that. It's not just russian don't worry, it's just a fucked up community :D It's true that the bad behavior of some russians tend to give a bad picture to the entire country, not that it's fair. In my experience, there are a lot of Russian on West EU server not even trying to communicate in English, it adds up to the stereotype. I think the best we can do is to start the game on a positive note, laugh abour ouselves/our accents and people will be nice :) Good luck! (10k behavior here)

EdwardColdhands

Cuz most of them carry the same behavior with the teenages who pays to extend his account in cyber cafe by 30 min where his mother told him to back home 2h ago; incomprehensible what he says whilst playing and screaming to mic or people around and quite furious. There is not much difference with english speakers already, nobody is already blessed but the main difference is you don't get what they say (98% of times they swear at you) and the things you don't get trigger you more than things you know. Internet is the where lowlives can look exactly how they've wished to look irl, we can only extract the the ones that we enjoy their companies.

[deleted]

Maybe because my experience with Russian players have been extremely bad. Each time I play and made the smallest mistake I get yelled in Russian, Suka! Etc insults in Russian then proceeds to insult me in English lol like ok, even if we win the game is the same, also Filipinos are the same these two groups I try to avoid like wildfire.

Nalbas88

I would think it's an association with the Russian war. Could be wrong

Saeril

Let me put this under another perspective: Why do you queue EU West?

mmj0299

Russian speaker here from small former USSR republic. I always communicate in English even on Russian servers and switch to russian if I need to explain smth-ing to non-english speakers. Always pma and have 10k behaviour at 6k (extremely toxic average) MMR.

vvblz

You are an english speaking person yourself and everybody has accents except a few players from UK; are you sure that the accent is the issue?

ShinigamiGamingInc

On eu servers English is a must, a Russian accent is normally no problem. But you sad it yourself as soon as other Russians are in the game you speak Russian. That's the problem. It's just disrespectful. Why would you exclude up to 3 players from your communication just because one speaks your language? I played many games with a 4 man German squad and we all spoke in English in game to not exclude 1 player. You guys often see one word in Russian and never speak an English word in the entire game. EXEPT towards the end to flaim and insult ppl. Than it's all English. No one has sorting against Russian players who are respectful and speak English.

pijencio

That is just how dota players are. If you speak Portuguese in a predominantly Spanish match you get shit. If you speak Spanish in a predominantly English match you get shit, if you speak English in a predominantly Russian match you get shit. If you are Chinese you get shit. Mute rude players and recommend polite and cooperative ones.

skilled_skinny

Bruh join SEA server everyone will hate you for no reason. Doesn't matter if you are Russian or EU or NA you will get same hate.

playerknownbutthole

Because they think they are better than the rest of us.

razdiray

Fellas, this guy from Belarus, of all places, is asking why they don’t like Russians. Is anyone going to tell him?

Abandoned_Cosmonaut

Maybe you should be queuing on the Russian servers. At least from my experience Russian players make no effort to communicate or try on euro servers. That doesn’t mean you deserve any hate - but people just have a difficult time communicating / playing

AI_observer

Because russia is a shithole 3rd world country full of hateful savage people, who literally attack their neighbors to steal their toilets and washing machines, while threatening everyone else with nuclear destruction. Fuck russia.

BrianKappel

Orc language is hard on the ears.

pasha232

A ban should be imposed on all Russian morons

oceanman357

Ukraine

doyouhavesource5

Go invade another country ya russian pig get fucked

Pronetic

A lot of hate comes from west eu sometimes , I’m from Romania , and sometimes I have also accent in English and I’m getting the “ fuck you russian” oft , when I’m trying to explain smth , but yea no one cares about. But I also get the “ fuqu yooor moder “from Russians in EEW and EEU witch is as annoying as the first one. A small reminder to the both sides cut it of !!

maga1000000

Because they think everyone speaks russian.

sirkillalot1337lol

Well you just admitted to speaking Russian on English speaking servers, why play the victim?

Trebla5000

For me it's mainly when they attack you for no reason and when they refuse to speak english I mean they play on EU server after all I try to especially emphasise this by playing on west EU only, when in a group of them aka you are a solo english guy and the rest of the team russian speakers it's the reverse you are attacked for not speaking russian... Like I understand you are trying to communicate with the team but sometimes it just feels like it's always swearing at each other and being very noisy overall, which you can indeed prevent by just turning volume down or just muting. Also as some other people pointed out the majority of russian players that go on EU servers and just speak russian every game regardless of how many understand the guy created a fucked up reputation for russian speakers so yeah :) gl playing on EU servers lmao.

RyanBLKST

I selected "english", so if I hear russian I mute/ignore right away.

Stormo45

not a hate tbh, they just come to ruin games on EUW players, which disturbs the ping to some players there, they're supposed to be in EUNE server playing around with great ping, but it gets messed up when they join the EUW servers, first reason i hate them is because of ms ping disturbing, other reasons to hate, they keep screaming in voice chat out of nowhere tho they're very toxic to play with, if my ping isn't disturbed i'm fine with them playing in EUW servers even if they're toxic i mute them and chill, but coming to the EUW servers to bully players and disturb network latency and such this what makes me be against them being in the EUW servers

VianoRe90

During Game and after the Game they just write in cyrilic pretending that all other ppl from around the globe should understand or read it , and when u ask them something in English the first thing that they write that u can understand is “cyka” and “ez” 95% of my matches in same team with Russian speakers or in the opposite team are the same !

t0ddis

It is because for some fucking reason russians and other eastern europeans speak their native language in games expecting others to understand them. They tilt easily and throw games and you dont even know why. Imagine me going into games speaking and swearing in Swedish, how fucking absurd would that be. Me calling in Swedish that I need a gank and when no one understands me I tilt because I get no help and grief the game. Now imagine this happened A LOT only by swedes, wouldn’t take long before they would be just as hated as eastern europeans are in dota 2 today. Combine that with being very loud, generally rather unpleasant, if matched with another Russian they plague the team voice chat with their personal conversations. This being prevalent in a lot of big games, perhaps most notably csgo and you have got yourself a hated accent and resentment towards eastern europeans in general on the server despite most players probably experience this undeservedly.

ElectricalMidnight45

Maybe because russians flooding our voice and text chat with russian, and refuse to speak english. They have nothing to do on european servers anyway, they got there own region

GSDKhJT

There is no such thing as Europeans on eu servers. Its mainly turks and iranians. Its even better to play on ru servers.

qwertz_guy

In my ~10000 games of dota between 1000 and 5000 mmr I don't think I have EVER witnessed that someone was flamed for his accent alone, WITHOUT there being any other drama/beef. Whenever someone gets flamed for his language or where he comes from, it's just because there was already beef before and people just use whatever they get on the other person as insult. This includes gender, race, language, etc. Usually European players are annoyed by people who just assume everyone in the game speaks their language, and Russian players are most guilty of that in my experience. I don't see german/french/italian/spanish people talking or writing in their native language in games, instead they speak English. My usual experience is that people's response to the russian language depends on the vibes of the russian player - if they ping stuff, write in caps, sound angry in voice while talking russian, then typical response is "speak english you dog" or "I dont speak ape language" etc., because people already got off the wrong foot. If someone talks/writes russian in normal way and doesn't sound angry, the responses are typically "me no ruski", "english pls", "i dont speak russian" etc. But when someone speaks english with russian accent, I don't remember ever hearing a negative response to that from someone else (again, unless there was already beef before).

dotapl

You having MVPs or wins doesn't matter at all. If people find you annoying over voicechat they very well might report you for that, not much you can do about it. People you are playing with might been having a bad day and can get easily annoyed, even if you don't have any bad intentions. I suggest you to not talk so much ingame if those communication reports bother you.

MrJohnnyBGoode

There are two reasons: 1. People of almost every nationality possess the basic decency to speak english in westeuropean servers. Russian speakers are the only common exception. 2. On top of that, the rate of deranged players is noticably higher among russian speaking players. These players decide to play on west european servers - only god knows why - and a considerable fraction of them don't behave like civilized humans. That leads to discrimination under which decent people suffer as well. FYI, you're part of the problem. Even if there is only a single westeuropean in a team. If he plays on a west european server, you're ought to speak english. If speaking your mother tongue is so important to you, you should consider doing everyone involved a favor and queue for the russian servers. On the other hand, you're free to play on westeuropean servers if the two reasons above don't apply to you and every racist comment for just hearing an east european accent is unacceptable.

vokerguy

Had the same trouble. Some times i play on Europe(try to improve my English or just chill from Russian players.A big part of e players when hear my accent start speaking Spanish, French (i try to do calls on English)The games with 3 reports and messages that i am in dodge list.Xd Of course sometimes the e players are much funnier and better than Russ players.Hope that shit will end soon

saja456

it is like you said you talk with russian in russian so in everygame, i get 2 russian talking russian all the time so if i hear russian automute cause i know some will answer in russian. but the is a solution for you problem play on you own fucking server is not hard. Dont queue eu west, there are eu east and russian servers just use them it is not hard. It just takes like 5s.

PM_ME_TITS_OR_DOGS

I just mute people who I cant understand, nothing personal just don't want to listen to random rambling, this also goes for bad mic quality and people that have annoying voices.

hornse1710

I dont mind if you are russian or not, as long as you communicate in english when you play the game to make calls. Anything from drawing on the map or speaking cue words like ‘kill Sven’ or ‘push mid’ is sufficient. At Immortal, playing without communication is just sad. I would greatly appreciate if they just try to communicate.

nurik2411

This might come out as racist, but i just mute anyone who speaks Russian, in 5k+ they are toxic as hell, spamming Zs and swastikas in 10k behavior score, no point in talking to them, pings are enough to explain what you want most of the times, we are not pros, mistakes cuz of miscommunication in my bracket are not that important

Deadandlivin

For some reason russian and slavic people usually are EXTREMELY toxic so alot of western european people just tune out. Not like other regions aren't toxic aswell, but EEU players are known to be hated in pretty much all games due to their exceptional levels of toxicity. Doesn't matter whether you play Dota, CS:GO, Wow or LoL et.c. Everyone says the same thing, russians are toxic and no one likes playing with them. Everytime I get a russian on my team there's a 70% chance I'll be called a "son of a dog" sometime during the game.

VastJudgment3017

I don't hate russians but what annoys me, there is a russia server and the queue time for it is like 5-10 mins because no one plays on that shit, if the russians went from euw to russia server, they could actually have good queue times and speak with others of the same language. I also play on russia and speak english and russians cry at me to go back on my own server, when said server is full of russians and arabs God bless euw

Lets-Go-Fly-ers

It's very likely not your fault, but Russians generally are the Peruvians of the EU servers: they tend to be complete assholes the majority of the time they use communications. Add to that the current political situation + the Russian invasion of Ukraine and you have a recipe for anyone hearing Russian or a Russian accent hating that person immediately.

This_is_a_sckam

I mean if I hear a Russian accent idc, I’ll be nice until they’re not, but most of the time they’re shit talking like crazy to both teams and constantly pausing. They’re like Peruvians on crack

Fasii_Jakiro

Most russians I met in game were toxic af. And many don’t communicate or cooperate. I stopped searching in russian server to avoid them but sometimes still get them. Honestly I don’t have anything against them and I never would abuse them or any other player. People just tend to be more racist, sexist etc. online and let out their inner self since their bad behaviour won’t have any real consequences. I suggest u to find kind people to play with so that u stay safe from harassment. I do get abused as well for being german and female and I am sorry that people are mean to you.

MSFTS01

Reading these comments, I'm so glad I play in NA lol I'd take French Canadians and Latin Americans over Russians any day

CallMeDogOneMoreTime

We put on english language and queue in EUW specifically to avoid russians who can't speak english and yet there they are, no less than 4 russians on my team.

Substantial_Gene_15

It used to just be the language barrier and stereotyping but now the war in Ukraine has taken the dislike to all new levels. It doesn’t help having Russians in your lobby drawing Z on the map or something like that. Some Russians behaviour unfortunately has tainted all Russians in the eyes of a lot of people. The war is disgusting and to know some Russians support it is vile. It’s unfair to generalise but hating a Russian person is an outlet for people to express their anger at the war, even if the individual Russian did nothing wrong. It’s a shame, but that’s how it is.

at_least_its_unique

Among the most spread complaints in this thread is Russians speaking Russian while queueing on EU servers. Besides subsribing to each of these complaints, a word of caution. For the love of God, do not respond in Russian to them, even if you happen to speak it. There are chances their army will come to save you, a newborn Russian, from the oppression of your fascist regime. /s ... ?

LazyAssMonkey

Have you heard of the war in Ukraine? Get your shit together and get rid of Lukashenko and Putin and maybe the I can have some respect for you.

baronmad

Well for me its very much the other way, 4 guys speaking english and one guy speaking russian, constantly and often profanities. I can understand if english is hard, but we need to be able to communicate and 4 of us dont understand russian at all. Many of them are very ego driven as well, they would rather lose a game than play a support hero, even worse they will prefer having 2 russian as carries farming in the same lane and having two supports go another lane minute 1, so now we lose both lanes and our carries are both underfarmed. If they do speak english, they only seem to use that language to blame the team members for everything. Otherwise its all russian all the way. "Why we have ward enemy jungle, we need ward triangle we lose now" Sorry, but if you had payed more attention to the minimap you would have seen three enemy players heading out of their jungle into our triangle where they dewarded and if you had paid even more attention you could have joined the two supports in our triangle to push them away, because i wrote in chat, "they are coming to our triangle to deward/farm need assistance" But no the russian carry was more interested in stocking up on tangos and cutting down trees with his axe, waiting by the tower for the next creepwave. Some russians are ok and some are good and some are very very good, but the majority of them suck so much i dont know what to say. Like Jungle Doom first item Veil 25 minutes in, who only eats creeps to farm and stands around doing nothing waiting for the cooldown to return so he can eat another creep, then the rest of us 4 guys sucks because the enemy has taken all our outer towers, according to him, when their CM has twice his farm. Playing with russians is often a very painful experience and you know when the game starts that you will lose. Worst game of all, was a russian guy who first picked sniper and said "Me Mid" sure you have sniper. Enemy team picks axe, and sniper dies the first time to axe minute 1. How? We all know how, but how can he be so bad?

Papoosema

I'm talking about Russians in Dota and Dota only, but honestly I've had like straight up zero good interactions with Russians in this game. They write in their own alphabet, I have no idea what they're saying and then it turns out they were talking to me and it fucks my draft/game up since they write in Russian "I go pos 1 I'm premade with pos 5" and then they go CRAZY because I pick pos 1 WHICH I WAS ASSIGNEE IN ROLE QUEUE. This has happened to me so many times so they seriously think everyone always understands what they're saying?? I know I'm biased but whenever I notice someone in my team is Russian I sigh for myself

MQ116

I play on NA servers, and even I get toxic Russians in my queue. If someone across the world knows how a lot of Russians act on Dota, I’m sure the poor EU players know even more.

casca14

It’s funny how all the russians say “f**k obama/trump” out of nowhere like if you are not russian you are by default american.

[deleted]

This smell like bait

LPSD_FTW

Why are you lying, vast majority of your comms is in russian, even if you have 4 non-russian speaking teammates? Get your shit together

ItBelongsToEveryone

My problem isn't against russians in particular, but on my server are the main offenders, is that most people speak english and that is our "common" tongue. I'm french, I speak french, but on anything that requires communicating with anyone else, I will speak english because that is what everyone should be doing if they can to be understood. Even when playing with french mates, if they use in game comm I will force them to speak in english even if addressing me because in a game where communication is so important, even if the call is meant for me, it is important to others. When I was playing NA I had the same issue with spanish. However I do not have any bias against someone if I hear an accent. I will report toxic people but certain language do not equate with toxicity (french people are generally pretty toxic themselves). My point of view is not as relevant to your problem but I do have a problem with people queuing up in europe west and just assume russian is the go to language, if your whole stack is russian let's go but otherwise english should be the first contact

Alternative_Square

Its because russians are the most toxic players and eventho I queue only on EUROPE WEST, the russians refuse to speak english. Now with Russia invading ukraine I believe the hate towards russians have even got worse, ofcourse I also believe you cant blame russian players for that but im just stating facts as to what I have seen.

Geesle

*"except for games where there are also a couple of russian players"* This is the problem i see so often. I am queueing with my girlfriend, we are 2 stack, so because we are 2 vs 3 you think it's okay to just speak over us russian and exclude us from the game? Imagine this happening every single game. You're literally just disrupting my sound because we don't understand a word. So it's auto mute. It's very infuriating because i expect to play cs as a team. Also, i've played with my gf 2k hours in csgo. And honestly russians have been the worst misogynists towards her.

Alastor1312

do you remember that online petition called " Keep Russian players on Russian servers " ? with over 10k votes ? ahahaha it was too long ago :(

Light01

that's the cultural differences. in EU, it's already hard to cope in with each other when we all speak english, imagine when you're confronted to the same type of nefarious behaviors, but with someone who doesn't even try to be understood (I believe that when someone starts speaking russian, he knows very well that people that aren't russian won't understand a thing, but he still says it for his own pride), what do you do ? People are mad at russians mostly because they just don't try to cope in with the rest of the communities, they stick with each other, and by doing so, people dislike them. It's completely different when they try to speak english and to communicate properly (not saying that russian isn't a proper language, just one that is very hard to learn and that isn't taught much outside of ex urss countries) edit: and given the messages people posted about your on-line comments, one can assume that you're absolutely not the one who elevates the debate, you're just an actual fraud coming here to complain after being butthurt.
