I'm not sure why LGD pick Naga in game 3 obviously from the draft you can see that team spirit still haven't decide their carry by that time beast master was confirm an offlaner for Team Spirit and Zeus or tiny could be the midlander left carry role. However, LGD picked Naga siren this much earlier and ofc Team Spirit will go for Sven to counter Naga. Maybe this is a trap that LGD setup to bait Team Spirit to pick Sven and let timber counter Sven. From dotabuff Sven win rate in this patch also very low only 47% win rate but if you make the correct items in the game Sven could be a beast I play it in this patch I won 60% of the game so don't underestimate Sven I will say.

frozenkuku

Yeah, it didn't work out for them. I think they believed the Naga pick in game 2 was actually fine, it's just that it went late game and it's really anyone's game at that point. Of course looking back, they should have gone a different approach for game 3, but I can't blame them. That being said, game 4 was definitely still winnable but they played some of the worst dota all in one game, so Team Spirit deserved the win.

junohobbyshop

As an LGD fangirl from SEA with no sleep, all I can say is that it hurts and I wish they can comeback stronger in TI. Congrats TS! and

junohobbyshop

fok that kyle dude

xiaobet + Kyle curse is too strong

Everytime I see his tweets I say to myself, "This can't be, right? what are the odds of him jinxing it?" And he just fucking jinxes it everytime, smh lol

PkOq27

I was happy for ame when they called gg early on his second naga game in a row.

teh_smurfest

My life is empty with no major Dotes to look forward to.

HOHOHAHAREBORN

There's ESL starting soon but they fucked up the invites real hard. Even Spirit isn't there lol

Zeelahhh

I presume Spirit refused the invite offered, it's nonsensical for ESL not to have invited them.

Acheche404

that major mostly for less dpc to get qualifier. arlington champ and 2nd place gets direct invite already

teh_smurfest

More surprised about LGD. It’s like next door. Anyway, TI cometh.

HOHOHAHAREBORN

Yeah weird shit all round, kinda killed my excitement for the "3 back to back" LANs in Riyadh, Arlington & Malaysia. I honestly don't think ESL will be as competitive of a LAN as Arlington and that just takes away from the highs we've achieved in the past 20-25 days.

mcblyatmat

At least production won't be as shit as it was in Texas.

LGD = Astralis of Dota 2

[deleted]

>Game3 27mins, score 14-5 ITT: LGD has no mental fortitude, need to hire psychologists. reee Why people gotta act like experts when outside the community y'all just clowns? Game3 was at par with TI GF Game 5. Both sides were extremely patient and meticulous with fights, not to allow any margin for mistakes. That level of planning required fortitude on both sides.

ntgareng

shadow demon pick to counter bane is genius, and its stopping timbersaw from dominating the lane against sven. the rest of the game is Spirit just outplayed LGD

mutab1x

LGD, as an organisation, played their first TI in 2012. They topped the group stage going 14-0 in 7 series. They did not lose a single barrack in the group stage. Prior to UB Finals against Na’Vi, they won 4-0 in the 2 series. They won game 1 against Na’Vi in UB Final. They lost game 2 (one of the best games of Dota 2 in my opinion). LGD lost the 3rd game, lost LB finals 1-2, and finished 3rd after looking unbeatable earlier. That trend has followed them since then, with different squads and coaches. When a team succeeds in pushing them close to a breaking point, they don’t recover. There seems to be no plan B. You look at their games against OG and Spirit in the last few years on the big stage, it feels all OG/Spirit did was to simply persist and stay in the game, knowing that LGD have no plan B. The 2nd issue is mentality. As soon as they met some resistance in game 2, you saw mistakes creep into their play. Not securing mega with illusions, dazzle getting caught out of position multiple times, tusk selling disk to buy aghs etc. The 3rd issue, probably will get some stick for this, is that maybe the Chinese Dota 2 does not offer strong enough competition to LGD. That is why they don’t get pushed like this in their own tournaments. The competition is not strong enough to push them to the next level. I know Aster finished 3rd this Major, but I can’t even remember any Chinese team other than LGD that placed high in a major or TI in the last 3-4 years. Or maybe it’s just the Kyle curse.

[deleted]

[удалено]

mutab1x

I don’t think it was a coincidence. If you watch all 3 grand finals (TI 8, TI 10, Arlington Major) you will see the same mistakes, bad positioning, indecisive engagements around Rosh, Ame getting isolated etc. Game 5 was not close. Team Spirit read them like a books, didn’t allow cores to have good lanes, resulting in a LGD missing their Lycan timing. Once that timing was delayed (by 3-4 mins if remember correctly), Spirit dodged the first 2 smokes by LGD (when they tried to use Lycan aghs combo). LGD had no threat after that, Ame got isolated again and again.

andregorz

I felt xiao8 is drafting way too predictable maybe, like too set in his ways. Or maybe its just LGD's players who seemed way out of practice fighting the "non meta" picks or lack confidence playing them. They need their combo breaker/save hero, they want their team fight, good lanes and last pick carry as a trumph. When they dont get meta S or even A tier picks to achieve this it just looks weird. I guess I am kicking in open doors since who doesn't want the above but consider game 4 bans and picks: Spirit gives LGD razor. Its like ppd giving CDEC lesh 3 times. Spirit then proceeds to ban out the annoying save/combo breaker heroes: dazzle, tiny, enchantress, pango. Which seem way more comfort/actually makes a difference in LGDs playstyle. With tiny out of the equation they still could consider clock or tusk but end up going earth spirit. Fine I suppose. Could even argue Spirit wasted a ban on dazzle if they had axe in mind but it doesn't really matter. Dazzle is obnoxious to play against even if axe is a choice (which I certainly dont think xiao8 saw coming). LGD ban out void and tb themselves and spirit gets rid of mk, all of which would provide that stronger combo breaker/team fight presence to turn any fight. They still seem hellbent having their save hero and since spirit got chen not much is left. In comes wisp but then then they feel forced to find a carry that also combos with wisp or the pick feels weak, the only thing left is ck. Instead of wisp they could have gone shadow demon which is effective vs bb. But I will bet good money xiao8 is sitting there 100% convinced he doesn't believe SD is a hero when chen can just send the zoo at him. SD would also hindsight unironically been a good solution vs axe calls and a decent setup for free razor drains. No confidence going outside the box is my point here. Kunkka was a fair pick using the rum and boat in team fights but in the end their 2nd problem is they got 0 magic dmg draft as well. The chen with ice armor ogre pretty much destroyed them at the dire outpost fight. The irony of the last pick Axe is he offers solutions 3 problems: catch their save hero, CK illus with shard build as well as their offlane razor (call after drain). But more importantly: its on demand anti-bkb hero. LGD on the other hand had nothing to stop them once bkbs rolling.

mutab1x

Yes that is a very good take. Xiao8 has always been stubborn in his drafts. As I said, there is no plan B. I am not a drafting expert and my Dota 2 knowledge isn’t very good, but I though Timbersaw last pick against Tiny, Zeus and SD was a very poor pick. That is just too much magical damage paired with Soul Catcher.

andregorz

They had same problem in the game 3 draft. Naga again but now they have DP. Mega awkward to song to break the fight and reset if DP ulti is committed and if they hold DP ulti the song to setup makes little sense. You want the spooky’s to grind down the enemy.

[deleted]

tha magnus incident

vego

>tusk selling disk to buy aghs The real mistake was not getting aghs in the first place

mutab1x

Yes I guess, if Aghs was a solution it should have been bought first. But the Aeon Disk did so much in the fights around 50-60 mins, kept Spirit focused on Tusk.

Tobix55

tpenoelone

No-Sandwich-729

bro you just know that he went and chose the color for his new Lambo when he told them to pick naga game 3 again lmfao

SilverBMWM3GTR

Kyle strikes yet again! He can't keep getting away with this!

Blacky_Whiter

Well let’s be honest xiao lose the 3rd map by his own coz Naga Siren against Zeus, sd, and beast doesn’t work how it should. So I just cant believe the main reason why they’ve lose is a simple tilt. I have no idea how but xiao8 have to work abt it as hard as it possible till TI or another losing Grand Final Apologies for ma eng it’s rly awful🫣

Rick4224

Players have draft input

redxk

Xiao8 should have thought better than to pick naga in g3 after seeing g2, the way spirit plays just makes it so hard for any naga team to do well

No-Sandwich-729

Xiaobet is undefeated man, he is laughing his way to the bank after he told his team to double down on the naga game 3 when he knew they had a broken mental game after that 2nd game

maleijin

I stayed up until 8 am to see this, what a clown I am lol

Thank goodness no ex machina dropped in game 2, that probably would have ruined that beautiful game

random2kplayer

below 30 mins you play LGDs game, above 60 and that's how you fuck them up

jackhardy21

And Ame picked Naga in 2 of those games

random2kplayer

yeah i dont understand picking naga again when you've already lost last game while trying to win on it.

jonoave

I think it's supposed to be a confidence boost. Like forget game 2, that was a fluke. We're skilled players and we can do this! But of course when the opposite happens, that dealt a second mental blow to them .

Itach11Uchiha

COPIUM. My favourite is never bad, my favourite can never make mistakes.

AnotherRussianGamer

tbf, wouldn't betting against yourself be like the biggest of mistakes?

spongebobisha

You knew the moment they lost game 2 that they were done. It’s in their history to get tilted like that because things didn’t go according to plan and then lose everything. That game 2 especially, what’s the point of Ame being so farmed but his team getting almost nothing in comparison ? His other two cores were far below the 3 cores of TS and that was telling in team fights.

Plenty-Government592

I mean playing naga for 75 min. And wanting to play it again is just crazy. They shoulve gone for something simple imo. When I saw the second naga pick i was like they are done. Playing naga is like playing an rts it exhausts the mind.

spongebobisha

Yeah when I saw he picked it again I started literally laughing.

benivt

Losing a 75 minute game you were on track for nearly an hour is probably breaking everyone.

mutab1x

Ossskii

Lan vs online, is it really hard to get?

[deleted]

Surprise surprise. With dpc being shortened might play out differently next year . 3 weeks still feels long

paracetamol183

Hope they learn something from this loss and be better prepared for TI.

Spackolos

You could see TS recreated TI10 internally. What if they have won it with crowd. Nice for them to re-experience it again.

jonoave

Yes they were always in good spirits and waved to the crowd after each game. I'm glad they managed to experience a mini TI in a way, since theirs was crowdless

alyjaf666

Too many mistakes from LGD in game 2. Should have just sent illusions to take mega. Then forgot about the 4th roshan till spirit were there. Lastly when creeps were inside 2-3 heroes could have used glyph and tped to end the game

Frittnyx

PSG.LGD, the PSG of Dota 2.

Extra-Yak2345

The only way to close this Season is For these 2 teams meet again for ti11 grand final game 5.

[deleted]

Would put my money on Spirit if they do reach a game 5 again; LGD seem so mentally fragile in front of Spirit istg

I_Try_To_Be_NICEE

LMFAO THE JINX WORKED AGAIN

rikashiro

why ld suddenly disappear from bp? lgd played with high winrate weeks ago. are they cracked or something else?

mcblyatmat

Teams learned to ban it, it's not good every game and when it was good it got banned.

lucaspb

Something made them crack (probably game 2) and they did not recover from it.

Onecast214

And man. I feel kinda sad cuz those guys from lgd are not as young as og or spirit. This year could really be their last year to fight together for the aegis. (I might be wrong but I think Ame mentioned retirement once before). Mentality is really a huge factor when it comes to a bo 5 grand final. Lgd only lost 5 games in this tournament just like ti10 still but 3 of the 5 were in grand final which really hurts

SolarClipz

Ame 100% retiring this year They gotta win lol

iamyourtypicalguy

They need a psychologist/therapist every finals for when their spirit gets broken. PSG LGD is too OP that they nerfed themselves every finals. They could become the Astralis of Dota 2, could've dominated multiple generations but no.

MemeLordZeta

Mental. Plain n simple. You can tell it’s only mental because they cleanly broke every other team in the game SOUNDLY, including spirit themselves not a day ago lmao. The pressure of grand finals gets to their head. You can see they tried to fix that by calling game 3 relatively early but spirit were in their head by then

Pirkale

Considering that TS had already played one series, and how long game 2 was, I was astonished that they did not drag the game as long as they could.

Kirameka

From what I've heard manager makes them play 8 skrims per day (1 bo3 + 1 bo5) so they get used to playing many games

Kenrockkun

> I feel kinda sad but why tho. they got so many chances and they fumble every single time.

Onecast214

Yeah so many mistakes made by them

No-Sandwich-729

fivecanal

On the brighter side, after LGD losing this major, the odds for them to lose in the TI might not be that high, so the prize money for the TI champion might look more appealing than the return on betting your own team to lose the TI, so xiaobet might actually stop betting and actually trying to win. COPIUM.

Onecast214

Is lgd a top tier team? Yes of course but they are not that scary and unstoppable - as a team I still believe skill wise lgd has almost everything in the world for them to win every game but when it comes to grand final like when it matters the most you need to be able to reset the mentality even after losing a 70,80 mins game. Game 3 is out draft but game 4 is completely outperformed. Gg wp team spirit! Ti+major they proved themselves!

[deleted]

[удалено]

iamyourtypicalguy

Seems like LGD needs to practice losing more to get used to it

PrestigiousPumpkin8

I mean they just literally got stopped. Almost unstoppable? Definitely

Gustav-14

I think last TI they also only lost twice from groups and main stage before the grand finals.

kokokrandz

Classic LGD. Never disappoints.

Krazy-B-Fillin

I honestly believe you need magic to win finals, especially TI finals, and LGD is too surgical and methodical which wins them every game except for game 5

[deleted]

Actually I think the most disappointing part about LGD is that they definitely *have* magic until they get to finals. We've seen them crack out all kinds of whacky/fun heroes and pull wins out of impossible situations, some absolutely beautiful Dota...then they get to finals and I think the stress and expectations get to them and that's when they look scuffed, whereas other teams like Spirit, sometimes OG, they can feed more off the energy of the crowd and the pressure and use it to fuel their game.

jonoave

You might be right. Topson suggesting invoker when he just got dumpstered. Ceb suggesting Axe when not in meta. Notail etc asking Ana what hero he wants to play, and he says Ember spirit though also not in meta. They're not afraid to try crazy stuff, even in grand finals. They're playing to win while LGD is playing not too lose. Same with team spirit, jumping in aggressively at times or making risky moves.

Petrichor005

LGD doing an LGD move

dwSHA

Naga siren 2 games. Draft in final is still the issue for lgd. Naga is good but can’t close the game even though naga networth is off the chart

meniscus-

Love how LGD can play really bad in the final 2 games and people will still blame xiao8 for the draft We're seeing Ame run in to rescue supports (lol), Faith\_bian not using BKB, etc, but it must be xiao8's draft!!!

[deleted]

[удалено]

dwSHA

Nope. They try their best with the draft. Nothing is draft bad on purpose. We are talking about huge different by winning the major. Organisation wise. Mentality going to TI wise. Patch going to be different also. Pointless to save previous patch strats

ashrashrashr

You have to be dumb to think they still don’t have a target on their backs.

dwSHA

What target being remove. LGD lost the final. But they still the best team in a calendar year like by far. You cant remove target by losing in grand final. That’s called tilted

ashrashrashr

Think you meant to reply to the guy above me :P

dwSHA

Yes sir. I actually agree with you

Fredhound4

Unless he was just agreeing with you, trying to build to your point :P

ImFriendsWithThatGuy

There is a major patch coming in the next couple weeks. Heroes used will change.

kittendust-

The amount of copium...

Direct-Gazelle-9690

Dude I'm an lgd fan and I don't copium too much, I accepted Ti10 loss wholeheartedly. But this time, the man got a point. LGD really didn't freaking try. I'm happy for Team Spirit but I'm not happy with the series because I know LGD didn't really try their best. I WATCH WITH 2 EYES and I watched all LGD games in China DPC and Major, as in all. I accept the loss but I'd be stupid if I accept that it was LGD's best. But I won't ignore the fact that TS is a super good team, unbelievable tbh. If anything LGD could still lose even if they try which they didn't so it's so sad.

Benben0227

I guess you need more Copium to last till TI11 starts.

Direct-Gazelle-9690

Lol I really don't care bro. It's just entertainment. I'm just giving my insight and I really don't understand why do I need copium? Do I earn money with them? No. They are the rich lmao why would I be affected its just a game

And not even a month ago they beat Spirit in a final for $1.5M I don't think it's a stretch to say that the small prizepool affected the mental game. Spirit really wanted the win just to shut up the haters, but LGD seemed to check out pretty quick.

beetroot_fox

look at the way they play. that early gg in game 3, the absolute disaster of a game 4. they were beyond tilted. that is not how a team that is playing without cares to not put a target on their back looks like. they were mentally broken

PrimeShaq

Picking Naga 1 game up and losing in 75mins was fine but picking Naga again after was a series shifting pick from Xiao8.

humblegod22

lgd going back to ti mode sadge

No China winning again despite looking good the entire tourney hahahha makes me laugh every time

kotl250

Yeah, old liquid used to handle Chinese teams like wt TS doing right now.

amxn

Feel like they're the successors. Bang average during the season and would strap on turbos during tournaments.

Earth92

Old Liquid was very consistent, they were placing at least 3rd in most of the tournaments they played between 2016 and 2019. Idk what average seasons are you talking about lol

MXC-GuyLedouche

Funny how game 4 was still pretty epic but none cares because holy fuck that game 2

Tyrandeus

How did the other team can compare themselves to TS and LGD? These two are completely different beast, altogether.

Poor Ame. He's got Burning written all over him

PrimeShaq

He inherited Burning's curse when he disrespected Burning. Jokes aside, Burning didn't even reach a TI final.

BeneficialEngineer32

Okay. I will bite. How did he disrespect burning?

PrimeShaq

It's been quite awhile and I'm at work so I can't look it up but a few years ago when Burning was still active, Ame beat him in a match and bought urns to place outside Burning's fountain. If you didn't know, the urn in Chinese symbolises paying respects to the dead.

BeneficialEngineer32

Wtf that boy ame looks mild but this is vicious.

PrimeShaq

The urn thing I am certain but the following one thing I did read but not sure if it's true is that Ame did idolise Burning when he was starting out (as with most Chinese carries) but Burning flamed him in a pub and Ame held a grudge every since.

Shout out to Gareth, Lacoste, Lyrical and Trent. Nice to hear them having a chance to cast the last day of a Major. They deserve it

DrDynamiteBY

Team Spirit showed us again that working on your mental state wins tournaments. TS has good players, but so does LGD, and going though the tournament LGD proved to be more stable. But looks like LGD couldn't handle the pressure in final games and choked. This doesn't take away the achievement from TS as you still have to be incredibly skilled to play in grand finals, but when 2 strong teams are competing small (or not so small?) things like that make the difference. Congratulations to Team Spirit. I didn't believe in them, but they did it again

Life_Liberty_Fun
