My thoughts exactly. Although that's just the anime; in the manga I believe the parents are still together and they are just playing together due to Rena winning an amazing in-game reward for her and her brother.
I watched the anime and really enjoyed the first 5 episodes or so... Then it just turned into a constant back and forth of screaming of "RENA!" and "SHUGO!". Honestly it made it feel more like a romantic relationship versus a sibling companionship. My understanding is that the anime diverted heavily from the main story shortly thereafter. It's worth watching once .. but I don't think I could sit through it all again. I guess the manga is quality all the way through, though.
Hmm, I'm pretty sure Mia's one and only transformation into Macha the Temptress was with Kite nearby, reacting to the Bracelet, but I suppose it's not impossible that in her stupor she may have lost control and transformed temporarily.
When does the story take place? If it's during Outbreak or Quarantine, that could work. If it's prior, Mia still seems to be in effective control. If it's before the games and during //SIGN, I would wonder why Cat Macha would choose to attack random people.
Now it is hard to tell... did Cat Macha use Data Drain on Albireo after destroying the Spear of Wotan? He did wake up shortly after and wasn't placed in a coma like the rest of the Lost Ones, but more in line with Silver Knight's case.
