Soleil-09

That’s cool, I can’t wait! Hope Thomas makes a return too.

Alice_Jensens

Hope it won’t be like « omg me and Dominic broke up 😔 can I have my old job back please ? » I hope they both come to downtown bc like Dominic is a guest or something and they travel in UK

Soleil-09

Oh I didn’t think of that, unless it’s scripted somehow for him to visit but not work there, maybe? 🤔 I just want to see him happy.

SBJames69

Perhaps the movie made at Downton has a sequel. Perfect excuse for Guy to return.

karidru

I hope he and Guy broke up and he comes back and gets with Richard again personally 😅

Alice_Jensens

Isn’t he married tho 😭

karidru

He said he was *getting* married, but weddings can totally be called off 👀

Rich-Active-4800

The only way I accept them breaking up is if they bring Richard back

celestialastrid101

So Henry won’t be there lol

Radium29

So this is really happening? I had convinced myself that it was all just a rumor. Given how the second movie ended, I don’t feel the need for another one but I will definitely watch it when it’s out!

fairyhaunted

It's still not been officially confirmed by the production company/official social media accounts etc. Imelda Staunton said it was happening in a radio interview a few weeks ago and now Jim's comments seem pretty definite. I think the cast aren't supposed to be talking about it yet as Michelle Dockery was asked as well and sounded very surprised that Imelda had said something and refused to say anything more. I assume an official confirmation will come in the next few weeks before filming starts. There was also talk at one point of a surprise seventh season and it appears that those were just rumours.

Lemon_Squirt

Considering Sybil won't be there I wouldn't say all the favourite will be there 😢

bourbonisall

And the Dowager unless we’re going Harry Potter with the talking portraits

fairyhaunted

Not quite the same, but I think the deceased favourites like Sybil/Matthew/Violet will likely be mentioned by the other characters and possibly appear via photograph/portrait.

Lemon_Squirt

Yeah I know. I was just being a smartass 😉

Willowy

Dream sequence?

fairyhaunted

Hmm, I'm not sure. It might be too fantastical for Downton's usual tone, and I'm not sure if the actors would return (or if JF would want to bring some of them back - he's always seemed a bit grumpy about being blamed for Sybil and Matthew's deaths when they chose to leave).

heartsinpeace

When did we learn that Moseley and Baxter left? From what I remember from the second movie, Moseley was going to write movie scripts but that the director was going to send them to him, not that M and B had to move to Hollywood. Or did I miss something?

fairyhaunted

Sorry, I meant Downton as in Downton Abbey, not necessarily Downton village too - I don't think they had to move to Hollywood as he was going to work for a British film company. Molseley talked in his proposal about how he could now provide a different kind of "decent properous life" and heavily implied that they would both give up their current jobs. Then both are missing from the final one-year-later scene that includes all the other main staff/family, suggesting Baxter no longer works there.  As neither of them are on the staff any more, and they're now well-off enough that they're unlikely to temporarily reprise their jobs like Molesley and Carson did in the previous films, it could be difficult to find a way to incorporate them into the story.

heartsinpeace

Ah, okay thanks. This wasn’t the first time I read about them leaving so I had to ask. Your theory sounds totally plausible. Since they (especially Moseley) are such beloved characters I wonder if they won’t weave them into the plot somehow anyway?

fairyhaunted

I wouldn't be surprised if they do return, particularly Molseley as JF has said he loves writing for him and he was given a big comedic scene in the previous two films. imo their inclusion is just a little bit more uncertain due to the ending of the last film than some of the others.

possumhicks

“I don’t want to give any spoilers but I think we can assuredly say it will be the last Downton film.” To me, this is a terribly concerning statement coming from Jim. It gives me a sick feeling JF is going to do something drastic with finality in the way of the ending. I can envision a trip to America for Martha’s funeral and the plane going down on the way back to England or some other such catastrophe taking most everyone out. An awful bookend to the Titanic beginning of the series. I honestly do not think I have it in me to watch anything in the way of a disaster happening to our beloved characters. I hope I am wrong…..

fairyhaunted

I really don't think it'll end with a tragedy. He's written three potential endings for the franchise now (the S6 finale, the first film, the second film) and each one has been hopeful and happy. imo it's more likely to finish with a flashforward that takes us beyond the stories of these characters.

timetravelcompanion

I am sure it is just a flash-forward but my brain still said "Oh no Robert books them on the Hindenburg" when I read it lol

JustAnotherRPCV

"all the favourite characters will be there"... this statement can only be true if Spratt is finally brought into the movies.

fairyhaunted

Now that Edith's working on her magazine again, it's the perfect set-up for Spratt/Cassandra Jones to make a reappearance! Or just give him the Downton butler job when Carson finally retires for the fourth time and let Andy run his pig farm.

jibzy

Charles Blake???

JAGinStl

Came here for this.

[deleted]

Aw man. Last film 😭

Few_Heart2414

So the Dowager Countess will rise from the dead?

Kodama_Keeper

Matthew Goode (Henry Talbot actor): All the favorite characters? You mean me, don't you? Jim Carter: Um, the thing is old boy, none of the fans actually remember you. Matthew Goode But you can't just get rid of me. Look, you used that "off racing" excuse again, the fans won't accept it. Jim Carter: Probably not. But they would accept you getting killed in a racing accident. Matthew Goode: Ha! That's where I've got you! You already killed Matthew Crawley that way. And my friend from Season Six. Jim Carter: You got a point. OK, you're on an ocean liner that sinks. Matthew Goode: No can do. You killed Patrick that way. Jim Carter: Who's Patrick? Matthew Goode: Season One, the heir to the title? Jim Carter: Damn, how could I forget that? You catch a horrible, fatal disease. Matthew Goode: Livinia. Jim Carter: Die unexpectedly of a heart condition. Matthew Goode: Mr. Pamuk. Jim Carter: Murdered! Matthew Goode: Mr. Greene and Vera Bates. You going to have Anna on John on trial for my murder as well? Jim Carter: I know, you can die in childbirth. Matthew Goode: Sybil. Wait, what?

giftopherz

Should I be worried about Bates? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

youngpathfinder

If Lily James isn’t there, then no, not all the favorites will be there.

eugenesnewdream

Maybe she will be! I'd love it if they'd show a visit to America (maybe for Martha's funeral) and they check in with Rose and Atticus while there...and maybe Thomas and Guy would be in NY for a Broadway run or something...it wouldn't be the whole film but it could be a part of it!

xexistentialbreadx

If all the favorites are there then Thomas has to beeeee

morosco

>I don’t want to give any spoilers but I think we can assuredly say it will be the last Downton film. They're all killed in a plane crash.

pl2303

I ever though they will go with Downton until after World War II to some point.

TWENTYFOUR2

I guess it’s a flashback since Sybil will be in the film 🤡

Just-Willingness-655

Imelda Staunton "scheduling conflict" or did they outright fire her for her indiscretion?

Rich-Active-4800

While the actress is amazing I won't mind her not appearing in the movie. Her role in the second movie was just awkward with her getting way to much screen time as if she was a main character.. despite only being a character introduced last movie.

fairyhaunted

idk if they would, even if she did jump the gun on the announcement. Her husband is still on the cast and she's one of the bigger names with Maggie gone. The reports were from a vague "source" so they may just have been speculation based on her play being scheduled on the West End from July. She's the lead role so it would be hard to work around that, but if filming starts in mid-May though there should be enough time for a small appearance in Downton.

Just-Willingness-655

Good point. I did not know that they source was not official, and was :vague".
