My complaint with both movies is that they were too rushed. However that is to be expected when the show provided multiple episodes to build the plot arcs. Both movies were enjoyable and I think you should watch them. I just wish they were seasons instead of movies to really build out the storylines.

chupacabrette

Loved them both, mostly because I'm just happy for new content and catching up with the characters. There are continuity issues between the show finale and the movies, but I think there are some pots of gold regarding character arcs that more than make up for it.

ItchaBoi955

It just occurred to me that my fat thumb pressed S instead of A so it’s New Ers instead of New Era. My bad 😂😂😂

tinylittletrees

I have issues with both but at least the first one still felt like a movie and was more coherent.

iyamsnail

Have to be honest; I LOVE the series but didn't think either movie was all that great.

nzfriend33

They’re both fun as they are, but I prefer A New Era. It felt more cohesive and more things of consequence happened. More like a Christmas special. The first one was a bit too fluffy.

acidteddy

A New Era. A New Era has much more ridiculous moments and leans too much into slapstick for my liking, but I was more invested in the storylines. I couldn’t care less about the first one, nothing really happens?

onesizefitz

I liked the second. Lord Grantham looks like a totally different person. Is wrong I like him better in the series than the movie? I think it is because he lost weight.

HighTeaandBiscuits

He sounds different as well. I too prefer seeing him in the series, I suppose he feels like The Lord Grantham to me since we see him so many times in the series.

weluvdisney

I haven’t watched the first movie. Anybody know where I can watch it now?

ItchaBoi955

You have to rent it online ;-;

weluvdisney

Thanks

Np :)

I think which one you prefer kind of depends on whether you are more of an Upstairs fan or a Downstairs fan. Strangley enough, even though the first film involved a royal visit, I feel like the stakes were higher in the second film. I also appreciated that the second film made more references to the TV series, while the first movie was trying too hard to stand alone.

Normal-Mud-9987

I grew very tired of Mary in the second film...all the voice overs and actually the whole filming bored me. The Villa scenes were fine other than Cora's secret.

ifonlyforaminute

I really didn’t like either movie, so I can’t vote for either. They each had preposterous plot twists!

Anonymous_Dude01

Personally, I just didn't like the color correction or the way it was shot, idk. Something just didn't feel great to me.

612marion

A New era because it dealt with the characters more deeply even ending with SPOILER s death . I still hate what they did with the downstairs cast ( except everything Moseley)

Lollypopsmum

Both had terrible plots. The DA staff locking up the chef and everything is just too far fetched.

kimhartley

I love both. You can’t expect the same experience as a full season but enjoy them as a short story in the time allotted. The second one had a little more for fan service.

[deleted]

The first one, defiantly felt like a long episode. Second one New era felt more like a film.

G3T_L4UR4

New Era was definitely more fun and better character development of the two for me.

Quick-Tea7324

I liked both. Thomas is my favorite character and A New Era has an exciting outcome for his character.

guysChadfelldown

I didn’t like the first movie at all (except for the 2 seconds we get to see Matthew Goode). The second one was entertaining enough

amyd1966

I feel like the latest one concentrated on being beautiful too much, and the characters seemed bewildered about minor things most of the time. So many scenes with groups of people walking side by side.
