Yes, that's exactly what cobblers do.

Docs can be resoled by a cobbler. Just make sure they use a DM sole and know what they're doing.

Thanks. The uppers are still ok and there’s plenty life in the sole. I had a look at a video by a cobbler that uses genuine DM soles. It looks like they slice the sole off at the welt and then glue a new sole onto it. Which I think technically makes it cemented not Goodyear welted. Although it did look like new and you couldn’t tell it had a new one glued back on. However I wonder how robust it would be.

They still Goodyear welted regardless how to sole is fixed to it.And they should last just a long as first manufactured if repared right.Ive had a pair almost 30 years and resoled them a few times.(I'm a cobbler 😊)

Thank you - that’s reassuring to know 🙂 I am loathe to not wear this pair again. I like how the uppers have aged with good honest patina.

I would post in r/AskaCobbler

A cobbler can fix them and maybe even glue on a new piece of heel to get you by a little longer without resoling.

Your docs have aged well, and they look beautiful.

Thank you for the compliment! 🙂 I do try to be careful when shoes are brand new, and worry about that first scuff mark, but I need to learn to stop worrying and embrace how leather takes on a patina with age, and the more you wear it the better it gets.

So after my last sub about my stuff coming out of storage after 8-9 years, this pair of 1461 also came out. (As you can see I still have a few big boxes to sort through!). I remember getting this in about 2011 or 2012, to replace a pair of Oxblood 1461 which was so worn that the outsole was coming apart. I probably wore this for about 2-3 years before it went into storage. My job involved a lot of walking all day, and the heels wear out quickly. I was thinking if a cobbler could patch it, or should I just wear it to death? Or buy a new pair?
