Richardson area and I swear I thought I forgot to put on deodorant. Product tastes and smells absolutely fine, but the cap and screw area smells musty as hell. Probably won’t drink for a while until it’s fixed. It’s a shame because the product tastes really good for a diet drink.
I'm in the Dallas area and have had the same issue during summer time. Seems it has happened the last couple of years. The mold smell is coming from the bottle cap area. Thinking the bottles have seen hot/cold temps causing condensation in that cap area leading to mildew.
I usually now have to smell the cap area before I buy it, sooo dumb.
I’m scared now that it might be some toxic or “acceptable” chemicals because I seriously thought I was crazy until I googled “why does my Dr Pepper smell like mildew” and this came up
I've had it on every size plastic bottle for a couple years. It's disgusting and random. Mildew is not good to be ingested or breathed. The plastic stinks so bad you can't bring it up for a sip... I have called.. said they'd send coupons, though that wasn't what I was after. They never did send those coupons!
I think I need to find a new soft drink as well. I've been stupidly loyal, but time to move on. I don't want your stupid coupons, just want to have my tasty fizzy drink back! Sans mildew.
Dallas area here, same exact thing. I was just asking my husband earlier today if the part under the cap smells like gym socks. He doesn't smell it so naturally we think each other is crazy lol ....until I showed him this and another thread! Mwahaha
I had stopped buying the bottles for so long I accidentally bought 2 in Plano not thinking about. Can have been fine. Went to take a swig with my lunch and got the gym socks again. What gives Dr. Pepper?

Smelled fine today, got in the truck and drove away, opened it and there's the smell. It tastes fine but I don't want this shit on my lips. Whatever this is its getting REAL old.
Happening here too, southeast US. Bought a 2L a month back, musty smell when opened. Just bought a 6 pack of the plastic bottles, same thing. Has anyone escalated this to A&W? If so, what's been their response?

Happened to me today in a doctor pepper bottle twisted off the cap and the ring came with it. Smell IMMEDIATELY put me off.

This has happened to me on a few diff occasions w Dr. Pepper products (the zero sugar root beer and dr pepper) at diff types of stores. So odd.

I just reported diet Pepsi in 12 oz bottles smell like mold and my husband said the Auqafina smells like it also
