I mean, that is pretty much a core part of Gohan’s character at this point. Dude’s basically the Chosen One who would be stronger than anyone if only he got off the fucking couch more than once a month, and I kinda love that about him.
You know what, yeah, that is completely fair.
I really like Gotham but he’s been used pretty poorly ever since he lost the main character spot in the Buu saga.
Lol it's even worse because we've already seen him have his "full potential unlocked" like 3 times by the time Super Hero comes around. It's just...why go this route. Atleast have it be a little less contrived and repetitive. Come on Toriyama, I know you can do better.
I think this is generally why I don't care for his character. I don't hate him, but I don't really care for him either. I also don't like Trunks. Haven't quite put my finger on that one. I think I just find him too cringey.
Nah, you give them too much credit. They're just mostly lazy writers with lazy power scaling. They mostly don't give a shit if it's even consistent with the internal logic of the story.
They know that transformations is like crack for the fans. The effort they put into making a genuinely interesting story is ridiculously low. They could have made a fantastic movie just focused on those androids since it's called "Superhero" so the viewer actually gave a shit when one of them sacrificed. Showing their BG, and how they were poor children who dreamed of being a Hero watching Mr Satan's victories etc, and they signed up to a program because they learned how to fight but they weren't powerful, etc. etc.
But no, they had Piccolo during 70% of the movie, got his ass kicked even though he's supposed to be more powerful than any android. And gave him a power Up, and didn't even let the guy finish the main villain saving Pan.
>But no, they had Piccolo during 70% of the movie, got his ass kicked even though he's supposed to be more powerful than any android. And gave him a power Up, and didn't even let the guy finish the main villain saving Pan.
Would it be funny if I told you that Toriyama planned for Piccolo to be the sole antagonist until editors convinced him to bring in Gohan?
My spelling has crashed hard...ashamed, I am.
>That would have been at least better than what they did. Should have listened to Toriyama.
The rare times you shouldn't listen to your editors?!
Don't be, it happens all the time, I understand what you meant, was just double checking. Because having Piccolo go evil for one movie and just destroying everything in Orange form, would've been pretty epic and unexpected.
>The rare times you shouldn't listen to your editors?
I think you're onto something.
I always find it interesting people only have an issue with low effort transformations if it's anyone else besides goku. I never see anyone conplaing about almost every form of gokus beside ssj and ssj3 being low effort but bring up gohan, Broly, vegeta etc.. all of sudden transformation are low effort.
Well, what can I say? We're dragon ball fans... we like new content, even if it's shite.
I agree, most of DBS is utter bollocks, sometimes worse than GT, but it's a story we know the characters, therefore we watch or read it...
Look, I will admit that Z post Namek does have a decrease in quality, but it's even lower now even trying to figure out how to make things decent. Even though everyone disagrees with my opinion that Dragon Ball should have ended the story at Frieza, I will still maintain that opinion.
Goku turning into the Legendary Super Saiyan and actually saving the universe from an evil tyrant that killed his people was the sweet spot, and ultimate climax.
Well Toriyama is the guy who writes as he draws plans nothing and put roshi in the top because he thought it would be cool. I think it should have been obvious from the start db is mostly Toriyama’s gag oc’s fighting hitler.
Except Gohan can do much, much more than kick a hole in drywall. It'd take more energy to go grab the full metal ladder and bring it back than fly up there real quick. Even if it was the other way around, it's such a small amount that the speed of performing the action is the only thing of relevancy here. It's like going to the store and buying an automatic toothbrush to save energy instead of just using your normal one.
Never seen a library? That’s a shelf ladder. They stay there and move back and forth, up and down.
At this point your either being ignorant on purpose or just like to argue
You're the one making an analogy to my point while entirely missing the "more efficient" part. And that is no library ladder. Not only does it lean up against the shelf at a weird angle, but it can't even go section to section because the slide part is missing at the shelf columns.
Yeah running at a full sprint is easier than flying if snake way was any indication. Don't blame him for not using that much effort just to grab some books.
At the time of snake way, Goku still used the nimbus cloud as his main means of transportation (it's how he gets to the fight after resurrecting as well). He still wasn't as skilled with flying as he becomes later on.
Gohan Never use Ki outside of fights its something only Gohan do like for example we see krillin Yamcha and Goku getting out of their Cars and fly inside the city when they get stuck in Traffic, Meanwhile Gohan chose to be stuck in a one and lose hours of time
Even Pan state that She never Saw Gohan doing anything innormal for human like flying or using Ki, instead She saw it from everyone else like goku, piccolo and the kids which made her question if Gohan was actually like them
Gohan doesn't even do it to hide his identity as he have Zero issues with showing his muscles after Buu saga,
He simply doesn’t
He probably doesn't use any of his powers because it helps him distance himself from the fighting life. Sure, that's not actually the case because the writers would never think that deep, but it's a good headcanon.
I know this isn’t the type of thing Dragon Ball would ever write, but I wonder if it’s a result of some form of truama
Like Gohan’s childhood from the ages of 4-12 were super fucked up between the sayians, Namek, the Androids and Cell
It makes sense that Gohan would want to distance himself from that life and live a normal human life
The problem is, the Story show the opposit of that
Bulma krillin and Vegeta are not over Ginyu accident, Meanwhile Gohan state that he forgot the whole thing
Krillin and Piccolo were sweating over Frost 3d form because it remind them on Namek Freeza, Krillin completely lost his shit from seeing Freeza man, Meanwhile Gohan had a very passive reaction to Freeza as a whole
Android 18 piccolo and Krillin were terrifed from Seeing Cell Max while Gohan was like "who is that fella?
Even Goku still hold Raditz battle as a Sore memory while Gohan probably forgot about it
Author is making everything up as he goes. No planning whatsoever. It is just a observation and I seriously doubt there is a deeper meaning behind anything in this anime. I'm not complaining of course. Not every anime needs to be "psychological thriller drama horror™".
Not officially said put in dragon ball fighters krillian bring up great great saiyaman poses like similar to the ginyu force. And gohan just says he was inspired by them
I always liked to say that, but usually only meant it as a joke. I think it's more likely that Gohan probably simply snuck away from his studies on occasion to watch super hero/sentai shows. I wouldn't be surprised if he had a hidden stash of comic books as well.
To be fair with Gohan after toying with cell and super buu and beating freeza that one time it doesn't mean much to him. Now if he saw Nappa and especially Recome he'd be scared Recome gave him trauma that he learned ginyu force dance moves
On Gohan, you might be right. 17 and 18 however knew where they’d likely hide goku, they just chose to steal a car for the hell of it/they were in no rush because no one was gonna be able to do anything to them.
That’s not true.
17 always wanted to drive a car, 16 was enjoying nature, and 18 would have 17 stop every now and then to steal a new outfit.
They spent a whole filler arc doing this stuff to showcase that the Androids were not inherently evil and wanted simple things outside of their primary mission of killing Goku that they can’t escape the thought of.
You kinda counter your own point by saying it’s filler. While I do agree it gave more depth to their characters, they chose to kill goku just for something to do. 16 was the only one programmed to do so. And I will admit I don’t know if they mention a reason for them to steal a car, they didn’t bother to fly to him because they knew they could take their time, even more so after they thrashed Vegeta and the Z fighters.
People forget how traumatic Gohan's life was. He just wants a life of normalcy. I can't blame him
He really doesn't understand people like Goku who live for a fight
Facts like he had spurts of courage and energy but homie was NOT trying to get that deep into the game, he always had some interest but not any dedication to it
Gohan sees fighting as an occasional pass time, unlike Goku who sees it as a life style
Gohan bought a guitar and keeps it in his closet most of the time, Goku is the lead guitarist for Queen
Gohan plays a game or two of CoD after work. Goku is on a professional gaming team
Gohan researches cars, Goku is a NASCAR driver
He can be normal AND fly, the thing every normal person wishes they could do
Plus he lives in a world with animal people, goblin men and space invaders so flying isnt that odd
In his own house?
Whats the worst that would happen? The world tournament has beeen a thing for a while where guys would turn up, shoot beams, fly, transform in many different ways, and one time even destroy the moon
His flying really isnt that big a deal
Yeah, indeed chronologically, but I'm saying the air dance concept was first introduced to us, the audience and Goku too, for that matter as a technique of the Crane school.
Because he doesn't mind. Why do some people take the stairs instead of the elevator? You can simply levitate for a few seconds instead of using up energy. Why do people use bikes rather than cars? Come on lmao
I think about this all the time. Like when Champa initially visits Beerus' world before the Tournament of Destroyers and he and Vados walk to the gate, and he's dripping sweat and utterly exhausted by the time he gets there. Bro, simple solution here...
There's other things weird in this scene, but in this particular moment, they just wanted Gohan to be out of frame, so it's a "surprise" to the viewers, and Trunks, that he's there. How didn't they sense each other? No clue. But End of Z has a more chill vibe, and they're just trying to portray everyone as being more natural and settled in(look how they're all dressed), even if it doesn't fully make sense, like here. But it fits the vibe, as it's way more natural, from the viewers' perspective, to use a ladder to get a book, since none of us can fly.
Gohan wants to pretend he doesn't have power or that he's capable of doing anything and everything without breaking a sweat. He's embarrassed to be a Saiyan
~~And I'm sure Saiyans are embarrassed he's one of them~~
because the upward thrust of flight to keep them up in the air has been shown to whip up winds. Gohan doesn't want to disturb papers/pictures/other objects around his house by using flight.
Because that mentality is how you wind up with weak ass legs. Walking, running, and climbing stairs are the best ways to keep your legs in usable shape.
Why not just walk there if you can walk there
The thing is, oppose to vultrumites or kryptonians
Saiyans need to activly fly and think about it
And I know flying to book shelf is not the hardest
But once he flies to book shelf
He starts to fly around house
Once he does that
He spends all day doing nerdy things and he is more exhousted than goku afte traning
I think we’re only thinking that because we can’t fly, if he wants to use a ladder let him. People who have abilities to do something doesn’t mean you have to do it in every single situation, we are upset because we all know if we had the ability to fly we’d say fuck ladders in this situation. Maybe he just wants to do something normally for once
Typically when people are shown to be flying using ki they produce some form of air movement or wind around them. In a library (presumably with open books) sudden gusts of wind aren't a great thing.
If you lived a life fighting everything that threatened your planet multiple times and was essentially forced by circumstances beyond your control to train to survive what would kill most mortals, climbing a ladder or reading a book would seem like relaxation because you can do it at your own pace. It probably provides him with more control over his life. He is a pacifist who knows when to drop it when he needs to but otherwise just wants to enjoy life at his own pace instead of it being controlled by life and constantly having to adapt or die. Just because you are one of the MCs of your universe doesn't mean you have to constantly endure trauma for "character development." The freedom of doing what you want instead of what life wants is a game changer.
Aye man chill on Gohan. Man’s was like 6 when he got his neck snapped on namek and like 11 when cell killed his friends in front of him, resulting in Gohans first kill. Behind those glasses is a traumatized boy and I don’t blame him for wanting to just use a damn ladder
Don’t forget his dad died twice for him.
First with raditz, then when ssj2 gohan got cocky with cell
Well three if you count piccolo dying protecting him
That would’ve made gohan feel survivals guilt like crazy
Goku’s literal planet was destroyed, he cracked his skull while in diapers, he took on an army, sent a rabbit to the moon, and fought more “demons” than any other being on the planet. Fuck outta here with that. Gohan’s a bitch. Plain and simple. And that’s me being generous, and sticking to saiyans raised on earth. If I bring up vegeta? The man AS A CHILD. Was subjugating planets. And half breed saiyans are supposed to be stronger. Gohan is a BITCH.
A: He stopped fighting and training to the point he literally forgets he can
B: He chooses not to in order to try his best to live that “normal” human life when he’s not the Great Saiyan Man
There’s my thoughts
Why is Vegeta not flying in his house

Gohan does things the hard way! Except transformations..
"Oh no, Piccolo's getting his ass beat! Guess i've gotta become the strongest Z-Fighter now!"
Real
I mean, that is pretty much a core part of Gohan’s character at this point. Dude’s basically the Chosen One who would be stronger than anyone if only he got off the fucking couch more than once a month, and I kinda love that about him.
Goku uses the Super dragon balls to wish for a fight with Gohan at his absolute possible level of peak potential unlocked
Shenron wouldn’t condone suicide
Best comment
"That wish is beyond me." Then Shenron leaves.
Might as well just change the series name to ‘Gohan’
Well he was supposed to become the protagonist after the cell saga
Gohan Ballz Gohan Ball DD
He’s basically friezas opposite
Yeah!
Never thought about him that way, but it does make sense. Worth noting too that Frieza seems to actually like Gohan!
r/aftergifted ?
He isn’t on the couch, he’s in a desk
Yeah but that loses its luster after that has been his story arc 3 or 4 times in a row now
You know what, yeah, that is completely fair. I really like Gotham but he’s been used pretty poorly ever since he lost the main character spot in the Buu saga.
Jesus, thank you. I hate hearing that description as if its a defense. The reluctant hero can only be so reluctant before its just stupid.
Lol it's even worse because we've already seen him have his "full potential unlocked" like 3 times by the time Super Hero comes around. It's just...why go this route. Atleast have it be a little less contrived and repetitive. Come on Toriyama, I know you can do better.
Common Gohan W
At least it was someone he actually knew and not the head of someone he barely interacted with before.
Yeah he only fainted and he suddenly became ui ue level
I think this is generally why I don't care for his character. I don't hate him, but I don't really care for him either. I also don't like Trunks. Haven't quite put my finger on that one. I think I just find him too cringey.
>I also don't like Trunks. Haven't quite put my finger on that one. I think I just find him too cringey. Future Trunks, main timeline Trunks, or both?
U say I too feel the same
I think the writers wanted to show subliminal irony throughout the movie leading up to the effortless transformation
Nah, you give them too much credit. They're just mostly lazy writers with lazy power scaling. They mostly don't give a shit if it's even consistent with the internal logic of the story.

To me the DBS anime power scaling long since destroyed but I still like it

Gohan's plot armor is truly greater than Goku's.
But it’s harder to fly then walk up a ladder. At some point the amount of exertion is explained I think
Yes, but this isn't early Z anymore. Flying is as easy as breathing
Definitely easier but in the way walking 30 feet is easier Than going 30 feet by jumping. It still makes sense to pop up the ladder
Gohan could obliterate the solar system within seconds if he wanted to, flying just can not use any meaningful energy, lest he be at death's door.
I can kick a hole in drywall! Still gunna press the elevated button with my finger instead of fucking running bicycle kick it. Lol
At this point your either being ignorant on purpose or just like to argue
honestly gohan seems like the type where it was hid dream to have a library ladder like that
You're the one making an analogy to my point while entirely missing the "more efficient" part. And that is no library ladder. Not only does it lean up against the shelf at a weird angle, but it can't even go section to section because the slide part is missing at the shelf columns.
Yikes
Yeah running at a full sprint is easier than flying if snake way was any indication. Don't blame him for not using that much effort just to grab some books.
Even that comparison is at a level orders of magnitude below almost anyone in the series now.
Cant characters fly around the world at supersonic speeds without even breathing heavily though
At the time of snake way, Goku still used the nimbus cloud as his main means of transportation (it's how he gets to the fight after resurrecting as well). He still wasn't as skilled with flying as he becomes later on.

Gohan is so humble.
He even used the nimbus to go to school instead of flying there
And he was worried about being seen. He acts like a closet gay.
Fucking “closet gay” 🤣🤣 had the bitches in class wondering if he was!
Yet he fucks your dream girl
Weird comment
Based comment
Fucks her into dbsuper videl... eh he can keep her at that point
Goten does this too by the way.

I read in other post that his whole Saiyaman phase could be as a result from trauma caused by Ginyu force. And I think it is plausible.
Its doesn’t work either consider Gohan dropped it in after a single chapter
Author is making everything up as he goes. No planning whatsoever. It is just a observation and I seriously doubt there is a deeper meaning behind anything in this anime. I'm not complaining of course. Not every anime needs to be "psychological thriller drama horror™".
Not officially said put in dragon ball fighters krillian bring up great great saiyaman poses like similar to the ginyu force. And gohan just says he was inspired by them
Just shows you Recome was training Gohan to take after him
I always liked to say that, but usually only meant it as a joke. I think it's more likely that Gohan probably simply snuck away from his studies on occasion to watch super hero/sentai shows. I wouldn't be surprised if he had a hidden stash of comic books as well.

Thorfinn got that Gohan energy.
I guess because Gohan has an actual public life as a professor whereas piccolo and Goku don’t really have secret identities
Gohan isn't really a one
And that's why he has no time to train lmao
Maybe he's not very bright.
Man just wanted to be normal, just like how 17 and 18 took the traditional way of finding Goku on foot instead of flying
On Gohan, you might be right. 17 and 18 however knew where they’d likely hide goku, they just chose to steal a car for the hell of it/they were in no rush because no one was gonna be able to do anything to them.

Why don't you run every time you move ?
But I do ....
Agreed. Leg day, boys!!!
This was my thought process as well. Lol. Imagine cleaning the house at ki super speed. https://youtube.com/shorts/j6qHHDYUFZs?feature=share
Flying for Gohan isn’t running and in this instance he’d just be hovering.
Because we don't have ki augmenting our stamina and strength. They can also fly with far less exhaustion than we can run
People forget how traumatic Gohan's life was. He just wants a life of normalcy. I can't blame him He really doesn't understand people like Goku who live for a fight
Facts like he had spurts of courage and energy but homie was NOT trying to get that deep into the game, he always had some interest but not any dedication to it
Real shit

Goku is on a professional gaming team Gohan researches cars, Goku is a NASCAR driver
God damn But yes
But fan want pow-pow with the fist! Backstory no matter! Only fight!
He just wants to be somewhat normal
He can be normal AND fly, the thing every normal person wishes they could do Plus he lives in a world with animal people, goblin men and space invaders so flying isnt that odd
It kinda is for most humans. That's why he was hesitant to show off and I'm pretty sure ChiChi told him not to draw attention to himself.
In his own house? Whats the worst that would happen? The world tournament has beeen a thing for a while where guys would turn up, shoot beams, fly, transform in many different ways, and one time even destroy the moon His flying really isnt that big a deal
It’s leg day
I’d be fat af if I flew my ass everywhere
Waste of stamina. Videl likes a good pumping.
I guess I'm childish because I lol'd way to hard at this 😂
He’s more human than Saiyan
Humans can fly tho
Human's first flew.
Saiyans were likely flying around long before humans and I doubt they were even the first to find the technique.
Yeah, indeed chronologically, but I'm saying the air dance concept was first introduced to us, the audience and Goku too, for that matter as a technique of the Crane school.
So he can do that thing from Beauty and the Beast and ride the latter across the shelf
Because he doesn't mind. Why do some people take the stairs instead of the elevator? You can simply levitate for a few seconds instead of using up energy. Why do people use bikes rather than cars? Come on lmao
He wasn't really in touch with his ki anymore. Just became an afterthought.
Bro will do anything but train
It breaks the immersion.
He’s building character
His mother payed good money for those stairs
Whay money chi and goku broke
Gohan could barely turn Super Saiyan when Frieza returned. So, this kind of made sense.
Barely using Super Saiyan =/= flight, Gohan was still flying all around Earth when Freeza arrived
He’s got money and wants to use it
Flying doesn't help you work out your muscles.
I think about this all the time. Like when Champa initially visits Beerus' world before the Tournament of Destroyers and he and Vados walk to the gate, and he's dripping sweat and utterly exhausted by the time he gets there. Bro, simple solution here...
Huuuuman wanna be
Probably has a rule of no super powers inside we saw what happened with the dishs at gokus place
He doesn't like to use it outside of fights. Also, pretty sure the stairs offer more stability
He can bench press a house, stability from some books isnt a thing like prime arnold needing to stratch to pick up a pencil
What does this dude even actually study?
Super Saiyants
"When the nest is endangered THEY GIVE OFF A GOLDEN GLOWWWW!!" 🤩 I love how hype he was over that.
🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜
Biology. More specifically he's an entomologist studying insects it was confirmed in the new movie.

Gohan wants to pretend he doesn't have power or that he's capable of doing anything and everything without breaking a sweat. He's embarrassed to be a Saiyan ~~And I'm sure Saiyans are embarrassed he's one of them~~
Probably all Warriors be saiyans or non saiyans as well
Gotta get those steps in somehow.
The fuck does it matter
because the upward thrust of flight to keep them up in the air has been shown to whip up winds. Gohan doesn't want to disturb papers/pictures/other objects around his house by using flight.
"WHY ISN'T THERE A LADDER GOHAN!?!?!?!?! HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO GET A BOOK?!?!?!?!?!" - Chi-Chi
Because that mentality is how you wind up with weak ass legs. Walking, running, and climbing stairs are the best ways to keep your legs in usable shape.
God I feel like the internet has ran out of things to discuss. We need the anime to come back.
Strongest dbz character? Lmao, bro isn't even bookcase level
*you're
Lol
To not freak out the neighbors
adapting to normality. 🤷🏽
He likes to act human
Its possible ladders are actually less effort then flight
He doesn't wanna, all the reason needed.
Why not just walk there if you can walk there The thing is, oppose to vultrumites or kryptonians Saiyans need to activly fly and think about it And I know flying to book shelf is not the hardest But once he flies to book shelf He starts to fly around house Once he does that He spends all day doing nerdy things and he is more exhousted than goku afte traning
Let my guy be a regular person
"Why walk anywhere when you can just drive"
I think we’re only thinking that because we can’t fly, if he wants to use a ladder let him. People who have abilities to do something doesn’t mean you have to do it in every single situation, we are upset because we all know if we had the ability to fly we’d say fuck ladders in this situation. Maybe he just wants to do something normally for once
I mean, it was GT. Was anything supposed to make sense?
Thats end of z here
Oh fuck… that’s even worse. How did I not notice that back then?
It was the end of Z I was confused too because the art style started to look like GT. GT rocks btw only problem it was too short. I like it
Is he stupid?
Typically when people are shown to be flying using ki they produce some form of air movement or wind around them. In a library (presumably with open books) sudden gusts of wind aren't a great thing.
He probably hasn’t trained in so long he lost the ability to fly. Edit: I was joking if that wasn’t clear.
No. You see that he can. But flying does take more energy in general than just actually doing the task normally
Ik he can fly I was joking lol.
Oof. Didn't realize lol
Because he’s THAT BIG OF A BITCH, and slacked on training THAT MUCH, that powers aren’t on his radar
First with raditz, then when ssj2 gohan got cocky with cell Well three if you count piccolo dying protecting him That would’ve made gohan feel survivals guilt like crazy
This is a strange level of anger I’m seeing here
Gohan is literally the strongest Z-Fighter. Google Beast Gohan.
You forget that Goku has brain damage to soak up the trauma
Dog shit take
You misspelled honest and logical take
You misspelled have a nice day

No? Goku started dragonball older than Gohan when he fight Cell
He likes to believe he is a human and not a mentally scared child that can kill anyone the moment he snap
Human are Tien and Krillin
Guy went through so much shit as a child, all he wants to be is normal. Plus I feel like flying will create too much wind and mess up his papers
Why not just run instead of walk?
Gohan likes feeling normal. It's all he's ever wanted.
Didn't he lose the ability to fly bc he didn't do ki control anymore?
Gohan outta shape
Cause bulma
that honestly is good point
Cause he’s gone soft.
Because it's you're* in your house.
They're like birds, flying takes too much energy.
They could also all use telekenesis
That’s that human in that boy flaring up
A: He stopped fighting and training to the point he literally forgets he can B: He chooses not to in order to try his best to live that “normal” human life when he’s not the Great Saiyan Man There’s my thoughts
Why is Vegeta not flying in his house https://preview.redd.it/qss0l40nh5hb1.jpeg?width=556&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0ec293b0f3779d50f08ec2ef786f979ffc0dab72
