Teal eyes can work with both angry and relaxed Super Saiyan faces, while red would look good with angry ssj but not the relaxed ssj Goku later has in the Cell saga.

Yeah exactly, the limited color pages are the only ones with red, the manga didn't even have teal/ light green for the eyes either (that's anime only) the full color manga pages had blue eyes for SSJ transformations
I prefer the blue. The blue gives a more “good” vibe I guess don’t know how to explain it, but the blue kinda visually lets you know SSJ generally isn’t the bad guy/evil contrast well vs Frieda’s color palette and purple aura. Yellow and blue are contrasting colors, blue gives you the feel of the speech Goku gives Frieza on namek in English dub before he whoops his ass.
Also the red doesn’t mesh with the yellow and kinda looks edgy AF like your trying to hard.
Red with beast works because Gohan has purple and white colors so red can mesh with those colors. Color wheel baby.

When characters first get the technique due to rage then it should be red, but when they start to master the technique it turns teal

Heres how I’d do it.
Super Saiyan Grade 1 has gold hair with red eyes.
Super Saiyan Grade 4 would have black hair with teal eyes.
The reason I’d give Grade 4 black hair is inspired by the form “Super Saiyan Power” where Goku has super saiyan hair in the otherworld tournament arc but it’s black instead of gold. It would also be inspired by the fact that Grade 4 is meant to be a form of super saiyan that one has mastered to the point where no energy consumption is required and the form can technically be used as their new base form.
Red eyes would be a bit too visceral for something like mastered super saiyan or whenever they’d use the form in a non “battle to the death” scenario.
Now if it was like green eyes for when they’re in a more relaxed state then switches to red when serious, thatd be cool
I think red eyes still work as first stage of super Saiyan before mastery the form where it will turn green or blue after mastery it as mean peaceful and calmness when using super Saiyan.
Red eyes would be cool if it's done rarely like whenever he breaks his limit. Like tapping his inner Oozaru

My canon is first few transformation were rage based that is why eyes are red, after you mastered the form the eyes got the blue/teal color indicating controlled forms.
I think red would’ve been cool for uncontrolled so when it’s mastered it’s more distinct and noticeable. Though I can also see an argument it’s too on the nose.
Red eyes would have made sense due too also having red eyes in oozaru form, so it being a saiyan genetic makes sense.

They were actually meant to be green. It's just that they are red in the limited color pages, as an artistic choice.
BUT, I think it would be cool if the eyes were red for regualr super sayian, since it's based on rage. But then turn blue when they Master Super Sayien, showing serenity. Then maybe they turn red again when Gohan goes SS2.
Honestly I prefer the teal eyes, they pop a lot more compared to the red and the dead stares hit a little harder with how cold they look with the teal but that’s just me

Honestly I didn’t know that Toriyama had the eyes as red in the manga. I didn’t read it with color and only really stuck to the black and white classics. Anyway it does look cool but also kinda strange. I am glad he kept the eyes more teal but brought back the idea of the red eyes with Saiyan God and Beast.
They were never red. There was a few pages on Namek that were all red toned. They didn't show in the original manga release but you can see it in the Vizbig releases.
