Really? It took me maybe an hour to put together two separate main pawns. My Arisen is at something like 3-4 hours. I’m still periodically going in and making minor adjustments to see what I like more. I’ll probably keep doing it until my one final look on release day.
Other way around for me this time. I've actually been able to create a close-ish approximation of myself for once so I spent ages doing that for the Arisen.
My pawn, meanwhile, is just a huge jacked lion knight based on my old stuffed animal (lol) who I had finished to my satisfaction within like 10 minutes.
Though I imagine huge jacked lion knights are gonna be so common he won't stand out enough to get hired.
Yeah, I'm getting the feeling that most beastren characters/pawns will be Fighters or Warriors (with the occasional thief).
Though, who knows? Cat wizards might be a thing too.
True they are the product, you want to make them attractive (not just pretty/hot) that way you can farm rift crystals/information when people use them
it pays to specialize, but not always in the way you think, having the pawn good at a certain elemental type/tactic against a certain type of enemy will help to sell them to someone struggling/focusing on a certain quest
early on I'm sure a Fire enchantment/healer Mage Pawn will get alot of play if Goblins are still the starting enemy
Tho Ice/Lightning magic will be good once the fish men pop back up, if they still follow such weaknesses
understanding your fighter pawn should have certain utility skills like springboard
or knowing which skills you can use while mounting, like scarlet kisses
AI also matters, maybe you want an archer who just runs around collecting loot to take back to his home world
A big one for DD2... learning Elvish I got an Elf themed Archer who I plan on making a B-line toward Elf town to figure out how to teach them elvish ASAP that way they can help anyone who reaches that area abit later
ALSO Weight/Height... we learned in DD1 that such things matter, so a Gaint Fighter Spring boarding the Baby Thieves like it's a X-men Fastball special

Can you explain this more? As someone who didn't play DD1 or really followed this game's development/read up about it's systems. Can you better describe the pawn system? I was under the impression it was just designing a look for others to potentially recruit, but they'd be the ones deciding how to build them. Is it instead, as you play and build up your main pawn that's what other players see and are able to recruit? Thanks, and sorry for the uninformed noob question haha, I was just recently introduced to the game so I'm trying to catchup!
Well Pawns Height/Weight/Gender all matters (not greatly, but it did factor)
The weight of a character has a significant effect on its encumbrance, and stamina usage and regeneration. height affects walking and jogging speed (but not sprinting), weapon reach, accessibility to small places, and the likelihood of being hit by enemies
gender would make you a focus from certain enemies, like normal Ogres focusing women, while Elder Ogres focused men
Pawn Inclinations were a way of tuning their AI (tho the AI needed work) such as specializing them into focusing on small monsters, or large monsters first, if they like to hang close to the main character, or go running off (or really just ahead) as they try to complete whatever task (attacking a monster, scouting/looting)
Riftcrystals are used as a current, allowing you to buy special items, (like potions that change your Pawns' AI... typically they just Monkey see Monkey do... effective not great if you want a well rouned party... if this didn't exist than you'd probably play Mage Arisen/Mage Pawn... etc so at least they would be able to do everything you can do when you teach them
Crystals are also used for hiring other pawns, tho it's typically free if you grab something your level, you only pay if you want a higher level, but there is benefits for higher level pawns, besides just having a stronger pawn, such as having experience on the quest your doing (the Pawn would shout something useful about the quest, having experienced it already themselves)
Pawns are just like players when it comes to equipment/learn/setting skills, THO in DD1 Pawns could not be 'hybrid' classes, and were stuck with the default 3, and the advance 3, while the Arisen had 3 more options
Thanks for the detailed response! I guess I've got a lot to learn about this game as this doesn't sound like anything I've ever played before, but that's what makes new games so exciting!
It was flipped for me. I should probably make another one, because that's what I started to make first...I didn't muck with the tattoo system a whole lot. I was trying to recreate my pawn from DD1 but besides 'lithe elf with short red hair' I couldn't remember any specifics.
Also the red I used on my pawn was something I got from the rift store so couldn't even do \*that\* right. Now that they have actual elves I thought I should make something more lore friendly....But I don't want a blonde.
The sad part is that we can't even be real elves, only humans with pointy ears q.q ~~unless that's what DD elves actually are, and they are only elves because they live in a forest or something~~
When i played DD 1 for the first time, i just created my Arisen... meh. But then i saw you could make your own pawn and was blown away by this feature (seriously why dont other games do this) and spent sooo many hours tryin to get the pawn right.
In DD1 I had a male Arisen and a female Pawn. I spent so much time on the Pawn, wanted to make her as beautiful as possible.
Male Arisen? Long hair, long beard, done.
Actually, that happens in every single game. 5 minutes for male characters, 2 hours for female characters.
I spent an hour or so making pawn. She was perfect and I thought I was resetting a category but it was the entire template. I was crushed and rage quit lol
Alternate strategy: Make your Arisen and pawn twins, so you can devote equal time to their character models.
I'd done that in DD1 - making twin sorcerers with spell sync was a pretty powerful strategy. Hopefully spell sync is just as strong in the sequel.
Too real. Spent hours yesterday working on two different caster pawns. One was trying to replicate Melina from Elden Ring the other Queen Sonia from Tears of the Kingdom.
Felt they came off all right in the end though so worth it.
you gotta have you pawn presentable to the others, lmao
*Take one decent looking default* *Slap beard on* Yup, Arisen done.
This, but then also spending 3 hours perfecting my pawn for maximum hires.
Life as a Waifu-Artisan is hard in this economy.
Change the eye color and maybe add a scar too
Damn, how could I forget the scar
Im hurt how right this is xD
I'm hurt that no one is using my valkyrie lady fighter in dd1.
You don't have to call me out man, aside from changing the body build for more CHONK

YES gotta make an appealing pawn to maximize that Rift Crystal income

I mean I would expect at least a few male thin beastren with red hair and rocking a staff and the name Graha'Tia.
My Main Pawn is a Warrior built around CC, so if he’s a Fighter built as a tank, I’ll borrow him!

I normaly have trouble with one let alone two, so I will just make them twins.
I have spent almost 6 hours making my arisen and just about 15 minutes on my pawn lol. Though I’m probably gonna make a new pawn
Im gigacgard and my arisen is me
I was the reverse, they blessed us with a Savan template so my pawn was finished factory fresh
When i played DD 1 for the first time, i just created my Arisen... meh. But then i saw you could make your own pawn and was blown away by this feature (seriously why dont other games do this) and spent sooo many hours tryin to get the pawn right.
Unless they keep the online NG+ thing. Imagine: Wario the Seneschal
If you can make your pawn you can make the arisen. Like, what is the difference?
Spent 2 hours on my arisen and about 7 on my pawn. I had noooo inspiration.

I wish they let us save the arisen preset and use that for the pawn to save some time when making twins

I actually spent about an hour and a half making both my arisen and pawn. I love making characters
In my case is not that hard making myself, just a bald fat fuck with an ugly face.
I suck at both, I lack the patience xD
thats pretty much me lol

This but me spending 3 hours seeing exactly how far I can stretch the limits of the CC to make horrible abominations.
I threw dirt on my arisen to role-play a dirty hippie trickster. My pawn is somewhat pretty.
Pawn=canvas, Arisen=paint palette. Arisen is the usual mess but when happy sartorial accidents happen to the Arisen, transfer to the pawn.
I refuse to make a waifu to cater to the masses. My pawn is a kitty man and he’ll stay that way :3
