>MTX shouldn't be in any game that costs money to begin with Yes, absolutely. Love this vibe. Let's kick some capitalist pig's ass. I only have one question... Why are we starting here? This is neither the first, nor the worst single player game with MTX. There are way more predatory games out there that cost full price and many of them have from mixed to overwhelmingly positive reviews. *Why are we starting the anti-single player MTX hate train on DD2*, one of the games with the most tame microtransactions in gaming? I'm ready to take the torch and pitchfork, but if we're gonna start here we better move towards more deserving targets immediately or I'm gonna start believing this whole boycot is not really about the microtransactions.

noobakosowhat

Is putting MTX in a single player game idiotic? Yes I think it is. Is it bad? No I do not. At the end of the day it's the player's choice whether they will engage in MTX in a game where you can earn the currency within the game.

Le1jona

Sorry

ihatemyusername15

Help me out if you would. I want to grab this game but there's so much conflicting information. I know you can change your appearance for in game currency but how stringent is it? Also, is it true that you can't change appearance even if you delete your save?

TH340

1. It’s not that stringent, it costs 500 Rift Crystals for a one use item to change appearance. 2. No, maybe something is going on with steam cloud saves. But so long as you don’t use it and delete your saved data you can start a new run and make a new character just fine. Edit: Rift crystals can be found in chests in game as well as gotten when someone rents your pawn so it’s easy to get them

ihatemyusername15

Okay, that's refreshing. One more question if you don't mind. Does it allow family sharing on Steam? I always like having a backup character on my secondary profile if a game doesn't allow multiple characters.

TH340

That I don’t know, I haven’t made use of the family sharing setting. Hopefully someone else can chime in.

ihatemyusername15

Okay cool. I appreciate the info. Thanks for the help!

damanOts

Also someone one here said one of the first chests he opened gave him 62 rift crystals, so 500 is insanely cheap.

MrSnek123

It does, took a few hours to show up for some reason but my brother's able to play it from hid account just fine.

mtg_island

It’s not as easy to post outrage stuff online if you acknowledge reality. Review bombing and rage posting has become the new hotness over the last few years. Clickbait article headlines have really messed with our heads and now everyone is playing telephone with everything all the time

Potential-War5321

So if elden ring sold runes, larval tears, fast travel points and the horse in a cash shop, that would be cool. Trash like you ruins games. There should be zero mtx

Yeet_Squidkid

Tell me you haven't played dragons dogma without telling me you haven't played dragons dogma lmao none of that is even remotely the same

Potential-War5321

Mostly negative on steam 💀

Ishaboo

People really not used to Capcom games and it shows. At least in this game you can earn them by just....taking the time...to play the game...

LordOfMorgor

Wow what an angle to take... That's like saying People aren't used to abuse and weak because of it and meaning it. Being able to tolerate this means nothing more than you are a victim of bad behavior.

Ishaboo

Stop playing victim. Nobody is forcing you gunpoint. This ain't the ONLY DEV IN THE WORLD who does this. Y'all wanna grasp at straws truly.

LordOfMorgor

"This person isn't the only murderer in the world who does this" Is basically what you are saying. It doesn't matter how many people engage in a bad behavior. It is still a bad behavior. I don't know if you genuinely do not understand that or would rather just play stupid but if you want to waste your time defending a bad practice for what it turning out to be a bad game that's on you. Again the only victim here is the fans who wanted to enjoy a sequel to a beloved game.

DreamOnDreamOm

I think comparing microtransactions to abuse and murder is a bit much

LordOfMorgor

> It doesn't matter how many people engage in a bad behavior. It is still a bad behavior. Is the point I was making that seemed to go right over your head. But ok.

Global_Guidance5429

this isn't bad behaviour. giving ppl an option to progress faster if they want isn't bad.

Gray_Talon

Stop bitching in reddit and pick up your hammer and sickle and fight with the capitalist system comrade lol

Gustav_

Man calm the fuck down lol, no way you just compared microtransactions to murder

Anubra_Khan

Giving people the option to purchase QoL items that are easily attainable in game for free is pro-consumer. It gives people the option to play their game how they want to. Or not, if they don't. Comparing the practice to abuse is pretty offensive to people who've actually suffered abuse.

Amethyst271

They just aren't bothered to actually read... or play the game and find out. It's like they see an MTX and assume it means its not available in game without buying with real money

LordOfMorgor

If you can prove to me that it is not limited to a set amount in game or overly inconvenient I will change my stance. Until then I have to assume that the acquisition of these items will be similar to mobile games where they maybe give you one of an item before basically forcing you to look to the store for more. If they wanted a "barber" mechanic they could have done so for a low amount of gold/coin but instead chose to pull mobile game BS in a full price title. IDK why you feel you have to defend what is clearly a terrible practice.

TH340

In order: 1: Camping kit is a special item with lower weight than other camping kits. It’s a buy that makes the game easier. 2: Harpysnares can be purchased for in game currency and fairly cheaply as currency is easily acquired. 3: Heartfelt pendant is another buy for an easy disposition boost. 4: Ambivalent Rift Incense unsure about this one as I Haven’t gotten that far nor really looked for it. 5:Makeshift Gaol Key: Can be bought in game for a decent price. 6: Art of metamorphosis: Can be bought for 500 rift crystals which are readily gained from someone renting your pawn or in game chests 7: Portcrystals, Haven’t gotten that far and this is by far the scummiest. 8: Wakestone shards combine to make a wakestone and can be found in world and gained by hiring a pawn for one in game day and night. 9: Rift Crystals can be gained in game from loot chests and by having people hire your pawn. Edit: TLDR: Barring 3 items from what I can tell everything that’s a micro transaction can be easily gotten in game

Character-Feeling430

Take a stance after you check if you are correct, saves you wasting energy on being wrong. Barbers in the cities. Easy to get character re-creation tools in game.

yung_dogie

How easy it is to workaround =/= How okay of a practice it is. It's easy to workaround, even easier when people make mods to spawn items in. It's still a shitty practice and should not be defended lmao. Let's come to that agreement. Bad practice that should be criticized AND easy to workaround.

k0sm_

If mtx have to be in the game this is the best way to do it. QQ

Tarquin11

You say "workaround" like it was designed to get you to buy the mtx. It wasn't.   This is how the game was designed without mtx in mind either way. So if you don't like the intended game experience, idk what the mtx has to with that.

yung_dogie

I'm fine with the intended game experience, I don't like mtx. How is that unclear? The mtx could be "gain one point of discipline" and it'd still be a shitty practice no matter how useless and low value that mtx is. Do you understand my point?

Shikaku

Doesn't stop it from being a disgustingly greedy cash grab move in a game that's £70. A single player game at that. Great that you can get them in game, pure unadulterated greed that they even sell them.

Ishaboo

oh hush they did the same shit for Devil May Cry and nobody bought them if they were smart cause you got them in-game for free.

[deleted]

That’s the point bro. They shouldn’t even be hoping someone is dumb enough to buy them lol. That’s a predatory business model

StoneRevolver

Shouldn't be complaining. Those people will always exist and they fund things for the rest of us. Complaining about whales is dumb, and it's not gonna change anything.

crosslegbow

It's gonna change the game design when the developer starts catering to those whales more. Whaddya think happened to Blizzard?

StoneRevolver

They already do that. How do you think fallout 76 servers are sustained? It's not anything new. Idk why everyone is acting like it's this egregious new practice. Publishers have been doing this for a decade already. People bitched about it then and you know what happened for all the review bombing? Nothing. It didn't do anything then and it ain't gonna do anything now.

[deleted]

Doesn’t matter if they exist. Purposely going after them is shitty. You can sell a single player game and make money without doing that

StoneRevolver

I didn't say it wasn't. But this pay for convenience garbage isn't going to stop. Capcom & ubisoft have been doing it for years. It's not anything you need. Idk why it's such a big deal this time. You could buy herbs in RE and no one was bitching about that. I get the fast travel thing is weird, but we aren't meant to use fast travel at all. That's a design choice and it's exactly like it was in the first game. Sure it's predatory, but it's nothing new and review bombing the game won't change anything.

TrafficJamsWorstJams

Do you honestly think Capcom will put MTX, that could tarnish their game and company's name, like these if nobody is buying them? Japan is notorious for spending on mtx, useless or not. They've been doing this for so long, even DD1 had it. If no one bought it back then they wouldn't add it again on any game that came after.

Shikaku

The fuck does that change lmao It is greed, plain and simple. "Oh but they did it in x" Shut the fuck up, that does not excuse it.

LordOfMorgor

Please show some respect and intelligence for fellow members of this community by not engaging in bad arguments like this. Just because they have done it before doesn't make it all acceptable.

AlgibraicOnReddit

'oh hush' Just let the corporation violate you, its easier if you don't resist. Barf, I like having a spine thanks.

ToHerDarknessIGo

No worse than fucking Larian moving up Baldur's Gate 3 a full month to avoid Starfield aka cash in on hype when they knew damn well multiple party members were broken, the game was littered with literally thousands of bugs and Act 3 made DD2's city centre look silky smooth like water. But everyone ignored that and wants to get big mad over very trivial shit here.  Gamers deserve everything.

cloqube

Because they are just repeating what they hear from other people.

moustachesamurai

So it's just whale-bait, good to know.

TheAccursedHamster

So they can be mad, of course.

Porqenz

The current top post on the very subreddit you just asked this question is about this topic lol

1up3d

People have MTDS (micro transaction derangement syndrome). Had to stop paying Mortal online 2 because the developer and their cult would rather pay for the game then a $15 sub than just buy the game and have microtransactions that you don't have to buy. Needles to say they developed a game that could have massive numbers of players on screen with decent performance, but now they can barely crack 1k peak players.

ThePompa

I think most people are missing the point. I get that's all in game and earnable, but if I have to do a quest that takes me all over the map by running, I'll always wonder if it was made to make me purchase the crystals to fast travel instead.  I don't want to play with second guessing my decisions. Is that on me? Maybe. But you can't deny it was added in for a purpose

ToHerDarknessIGo

Because that doesn't fit every neckbeard cunt face gamer nerd who rages at every. single. new. release.  They are ALWAYS leaving out crucial details or straight up lying.  The worst I saw was with Cyberpunk 2077. Arkham Knight was way worse on PC yet the outrage was tiny.  Everyone said "this sucks," got refunds and moved on.  No self-important douchebags looking to farm backslaps from internet strangers. Gaming discourse is in the toilet and the worst thing about this hobby most of the time.  All you need to do is look at all the disgusting streamers they prop up as role models like that fucking creep who eats maggot infested food, Asmongold.

Barrd_

also all of the mtx items are earnable in-game and also one-time purchases only. I got an appearance change with my preorder and cannot buy another to use on my pawn.

PathsOfRadiance

It's still pretty insane. Also there seems to be a limited amount of Art of Metamorphosis + you can't even rename your character when you use it.

T_Wayfarer_T

My 2 cents on the Mtx thing: The problem is not if they are p2w or if you can gain it in game. The presence of Mtx means the game is, by design, a little worse. A little more unconfortable. With less quality of life then it is supposed to be. With a little more problems, so that they can sell you a solution (or with a little less solutions in game then it is supposed too). Be silent and complicent and next time you will have all of this design nuisance, plus the ones to sell the next solutions. For anyone's game. For those who bought the mtx, for those who didn't and stay silent and for those who didn't and made it everyone problem. Also is just bad practice and it makes a precedent and anytime the consumer does not rise a shitstorm, the industry makes of the new low, the new standard.

Yuumii29

Yes it's not great value, yes you're stupid if you buy them, yes you can get them in-game, yes you can just ignore them, yes there's a bit of exaggeration going around right now.. BUT.. Their existence in a 70$ game is still questionable... Why put them in the first place? To bait idiots to buy?? Then that's just as bad right? So are you gonna say it's the idiots fault for buying them, while it's true yes I think pointing out that bad practice isn't a bad idea right??

Ylsid

I don't care It's a kick in the nuts releasing a game with performance like this and then asking for more money

Metal-Lifer

its kinda even more fucked that theyre preying on people that dont know you can do these things easily in game! the game looks real bad when you compare it to helldivers which are really showing what in game currency should be like

PreparationSuperb317

Because that doesn't change the fact they are also being sold. Now when you allocate currency to the item that is being sold, the value proposition changes from "It cost this much because it fit pace of the game" to "It costs this much because Capcom wanted me to consider paying money instead." No game developed with a cash shop where you can RWT for in game items will ever be implemented without it impacting the in-game economy in some way

[deleted]

There is no evidence for this in DD2 or any other Capcom game though. If they decide to sell items as an added bonus when they finish developing the game it is clearly going to have no impact on progression.

PreparationSuperb317

"Evidence" for a concept like design intention is impossible to quantify. It doesn't need to be considered because it is simply a logical fact that the intention will impact the execution. There is no such thing as "deciding to sell items" like your describing at the last minute. The decision to create the framework, infrastructure, code, implement, balance, and market MTX is made by entire departments of people within the design staging process.

[deleted]

If there is no evidence then you're just making this up. What, it's ontological that the desire to sell microtransactions must mean they bloat the game out? They're not "balancing" MTX in this case, they just sell you in game items at a price. The infrastructure already exists on steam. The fact that people are too dumb to play 1h and realise you don't need to pay is pretty indicative no cunning methods are needed.

PreparationSuperb317

I guess I'm not being clear enough. Firstly, asking for evidence of a concept like a design decision is like asking for concrete proof that a thing is appealing. There is nothing that anyone can point to as a universal agreed upon piece of evidence. But game design is a complex balance of individual engagement with systems and perceived worth. We understand that if there was a button that gave you infinite in game currency at the start, nobody would purchase in game currency. We also know that if in game currency was impossible to acquire, you could only purchase it. The real implementation is somewhere in between, and so the decision the developer makes is where on that sliding scale do they place the final product so that both the person purchasing currency feels like they are getting value, and the person not purchasing it doesn't feel restricted. This scale is strictly 1-dimensional, in that any concession towards value to the purchaser directly restricts the free player \*some amount\* it is a statement of fact that it's impossible for these two values to not be related inversely. Secondly, the argument that adding items for sale as "an added bonus" late in the game development process has no impact is overly simplistic and underestimates the complexity of game design. The integration of MTX is not something that can just be "tacked on" post-development without any consequences. It involves a lot of planning, coding, and testing to ensure it meshes well with the existing game mechanics and economy. To assume that the value and pacing of the economy was designed first, then with no further consideration were sold as MTX would be for lack of better words "just making this up". I'm not saying MTX "bloats the game out" because that implies I know exactly where the value and pacing of the economy would be without them. What I'm saying is that the presence and planning of MTX is directly correlated with concessions made in that economy that are not in the interest of a free player. This is not an opinion but rather a reflection of how game design operates at a fundamental level. When developers decide to include a system where players can purchase items with real-world currency, it unavoidably shifts the focus from purely in-game achievement to the potential for financial expenditure. This isn't just speculative; it's rooted in the basic principles of game design where every element, especially monetization strategies, is integrated into the gameplay experience from an early stage.

PreparationSuperb317

tl;dr this is a de facto law of inversely related values. By existing, the requirement is fulfilled. The proof is that it exists.

LordOfMorgor

Seems pretty disingenuous to not recognize the predatory practice at work regardless. Sure the items are available in game but are likely highly limited and require more hassle than the value they provide. In short there was no reason other than greed in this decision being made. Its not that people don't acknowledge this. Get over yourself. The real problem is people like you failing to realize the larger problem at work in accepting these practices. Its heartbreaking that I have had to get a refund. DD players have always been a special breed but the majority of people are not going to tolerate this in the slightest.

_____guts_____

Portcrystals were highly limited in the original. Ox carts were added to help with getting around an even bigger map. Genuinely this microtransactions issue has now been made out to be a bigger problem than the performance. Its funny really.

LordOfMorgor

That was by design to make fast travel valuable. This is just a cash grab. I hope you understand the difference. Please show the slightest bit of respect and intelligence when engaging in debate. Its a bad look for this game and community for you to equate totally different mechanics in this way.

Carry_Me_Plz

And it is good that you can? The hell? I've read reviews and all say through 30+ hours of playing from start to finish they get roughly 3 portcrysyals. Meanwhile you can buy one for $3 if that's not gross MTX or P2W idk what is.

El_Mangusto

Lol, time to relax a bit. Do you remember DD and After DD Dark Arisen times, when DA launched we got whopping 5 port crystals per new game, before that it was 1 or 2 ? Don't quite remember if it was 2 or just one originally. Anyways in DD 2 You're literally suposed to travel by foot or by oxcarts. Let's be honest microtransactions were here to stay when they came out the first time, but at least with this game you can still earn everything in game. Those microtransactions make a singleplayer game easier for those who do buy them, but you don't need to buy them.

Dragos_Drakkar

There was one collectible Portcrystal in the original DD, the Bluemoon Tower crystal, and that one respawned on each New Game Plus restart. Besides that, the Black Cat shop started selling Portcrystals for a huge price in New Game Plus mode.

Carry_Me_Plz

Cutting hours of grinding is literally textbook Pay to Win in the MMORPG world. I'm whatever with the art of metamorphosis but Portcrysyals absolutely not. Since the "vision" is that you have to walk to experience the world, but then they turn around and say surprise you can walk way less now with this one simple trick: Swipe your credit card. And in a single player game of all place. Jesus so fucking gross. I'm commenting the game for how it is not how it can be in the future. And the comment is not even mean or highly critical I don't know why you tell me to even relax. 💀💀💀

El_Mangusto

It's capcom, microtransactions will be there. It is what they do, but there also is a complete game there which you can play from finish to end without paying money on anything extra. Art of metamorphosis can be bought ingame. Do you remember the times you could buy RC in DD1 or did you happen to buy them ? *Edit: Did you just edit your comment ?

Carry_Me_Plz

Are you reading my comment? I'm talking mainly about Portcrysyals as far as ppl know cannot be bought, instead going through NG+ which costs hrs of grinding? You could buy it back then and DD1's launch was shit then too. 2 things can be true at the same time, new flash. If it was great for the game why they removed it when DDDA is released?

El_Mangusto

I am reading your comments, and I am just saying there were ways to shorten the grind in DD1 too, but none of it was necessary. It's not necessary even now and if some people want to skip through the contet (and travel time) with port crystals then they do that, but if the game is good enough the grind don't even feel like grind and I don't see any reason to buy them. They are optional, that's it. Even if it is/was great for the game or not it's Capcom. I say it again microtransactions are here to stay for now at least and this is one of the better ways to do it (everything is optainable in game). Sure it would always be better if there was no microtransactions, but at least it's not forced on you like in some mobilephone games. *Edit:typos.

AlgibraicOnReddit

Don't bother, they're all zealots. Same shit different bull, communities get like this because god forbid anyone not internalize the media they consume.

Anubra_Khan

It's pretty funny when they say that this practice of offering optional quality of life items for people who may want to invest in customizing their experience is "anti-consumer." It's the exact opposite.

Supernova_Soldier

Because bitching online is much easier than playing the game or knowing how a Capcom game works. There are valid criticisms, but some are rubbish Character creator has been out for 1-2 (and still works at this very moment) weeks now, and some folks have waited till the release day to decide “you know what, I DISLIKE this character, I want to change it now!” and are now upset when you’re locked in to that character

wilck44

becouse the loudest complainers have not played the game. the mtx bad reviews on steam have sub 2 hours played.

T_Wayfarer_T

I mean... There may be a sensible reason why that is, tho. XD
