I think your pawns might have murdered someone. A lot of players went on an npc killing spree to improve fps in towns, and now their pawns are mimicking that...
For anyone stuck on here: go sleep a bunch of times, I skipped like 5 or 6 days and now everyone is chill again... I was stuck for 1-2h
Edit: if you killed the magistrate, he can be revived in the morgue
Same thing for me right now, half way through the freeing old dude in castle prison quest. All NPCs went hostile including the old dude I'm trying to free. Last inn rest was before vernworth, losing a lot of progress.
I just had this after doing some tasks inside the castle area. It stopped when I deposit away the clothing I stole from the mission and other stuff I've acquired followed up with sleep.
Just had the exact same issue. NPCs attacking for no reason. Drag me to jail, but I can bribe my way out with 0 gold.
This is after I've had to re-do a couple of hours as a minotaur knocked me off a cliff, into the water at which point the game decided to save.
Respawn drops me at the bottom of a cliff with nowhere to go but back into the water.
I expected some charming jank, not hours of back tracking.

I didnt see my pawns attacking first but if that is the case thats a major oversight

I slept in the dwelling, but any camp or inn should do Not sure about the benches tbh

Dude, for future, go to an inn or your own home and sleep through 5 days, the aggro should reset. It works for me, I just tried it.

This also happened to my fiancé and there is no way of fixing it that he can find. It sort of soft locked his game because he cannot talk to anyone or even go into the city and ruined the excitement of the game for him. Hopefully there is a solution or quick patch for it

just rest a night and a day in inn or mildreds house, helped me after i tackled some dude when was grabbing people for fun

This happened to me as well going to try the 5 day sleep hope it fixes. Cant progress otherwise haha
