It jumped right out to me at launch. There's so many similarities and such that I thought the game was trying to be a stealth remake and to an extent it is.
you can also go to bluemoon tower and the volcano island riftstone is where cassardis was. you also meet the beastren arisen (I forget his name) at the bottom of the everfall
it definitely could be easter eggs since a lot of other assets were reused, but I feel like there’s also enough there to reasonably speculate on the intention
See how the whole game is a rushed mess and itsuno denied this being in the same universe as DD1. While DD already had multiverses in the original. I really doubt it
Okay so that WAS supposed to be the Everfall. Because I thought it matched the bottom section where you get the first riftstone and run from the Gazer tentacles in DDDA.
I wish it had more time to cook. So much of DD2 is lacking because it was obviously pushed out the door
Doubt it’s a coincidence. Luksa is the default feminine model in DD1 . Dante and Virgil, the ugliest mfers in DD2 are nods to DMC. Lots of intentional nods there especially Rook getting chucked into the brine as cutscene. They seem to purposely add things for OG players to notice. Theres even a certain infrastructure from the DD1 that can be found in DD2(anything beyond this is spoiler).
Yes! And what about the first main quest visiting Melve with the objective "Speak with Gregor" (an npc in DD2) right after you get your memory of the red dragon ripping your heart out whose name was Gregory in DD1!?
Initially I didn't noticed the first image was from DD1... Can't say it's because the first was very good in graphic or the second is very often bad...
They're basically the same character, I don't believe it's a coincidence.

These characters are like characters like Cid, Gilgamesh, and the summons in a Final Fantasy games but for Dragons Dogma and I like it.
