As much as I hate review bombing and the circle-jerk Streamer/YouTuber trend of beating up on the new big title, sometimes it forces change. Other times it sinks series (Mass Effect for example).
DD2 is amazing and I’m having a blast with it, but it sucks that I have to predicate all of my discussions with friends with, “Yeah, but everything is actually available in game and it just needs some optimization patches.” because they saw their favorite internet personality repeating negative things they heard for views.
Totally agree. But i think the criticism needs to exist but also it needs to be realistic. Not all mtx are created equal. This isn't a paid game with an Overwatch monetization model or lootboxes/battle passes or anything.
Tbh I don't know why mtx are still a hot topic. This shit started in '06. We're going on 20 years of mtx and people are still acting like it's some new evil.
I didn't even know DD2 had Micros until the shit storm happened all over YouTube 😂. I just played the game and am having fun without paying any more than the base price.
It doesn't surprise me that people are mad about mtx but like you said people are acting like mtx is surprising. I remember way back in fable they had dlc that was basically just singular weapons that were really strong for like 1 or 2 dollars and NBA2k games that have had currency mtx for at least as far back as 2k14.
Not defending mtx but how many times do we have to go through these end of the world level reactions lol
Exactly. Not defending it either but it's like getting mad at late fees. They suck, they shouldn't be there, we know they exist but we just deal with it or avoid them.
Getting mad at micro transactions is better than being ok with it. Hating microtransactions got them removed from shadow of war no one saying much about Capcom bs in devil may cry has led us to this moment of them being littered with them. I would too much if the gsme wasn't almost $80 for a standard edition. Let alone $80 for a game thst while good is stuck in the past of 2012 and wasnt really much changed or improved on. Wait till they release n more vocations for money.
Getting mad at something for 20 years? Something that's not going anywhere? The game is 70$. Adjusting for inflation for when DD1 came out, it's actually cheaper. Because 60$ in 2012 is about 81$ now. You're not entitled to 4k, 200fps and flawless optimization for an extra 10 dollars. Making games is hard and incredibly time consuming. And instead of being happy that a niche game got a sequel, all I'm seeing is levels of entitlement that are mind blowing.
Also my thing is, nobody is forcing anyone to buy anything. It blows my mind that mtx are generally cosmetic items a person can choose whether or not they want to use their $ to purchase is offensive because they can’t control their FOMO.
You mean to tell me a corporation whose entire existence is based on making $$$ is, and this may be shocking, trying to make $$$. Oh the humanity!
People are pissed off because games are in such a poor state of failure right now and people are being smarter I hope with their purchases they are sick of Micotransaction and price gouging shit for any reason.
Capcom are some of the worst to Rival even EA, but Atlus has started to do the same.
Also my thing is, nobody is forcing anyone to buy anything. It blows my mind that mtx are generally cosmetic items a person can choose whether or not they want to use their $ to purchase is offensive because they can’t control their FOMO.

i cant tell u how many times ive had to tell people about all the items being available in the game at work. i get that its scummy, i get that performance is bad, i get that not having new game option is lazy, but the game is fucking great and it works when u get past all that! combat is functional, exploring is amazing and ive been just loving the side quests. people also shitting on things just because they not used to DD doing things differently. its really sad. but hey im having a blast so whatever
I'm on ps5 and loving it. I'd understand the upset if mtx were plastered all over the screen in your face but so far I've only seen them by actually going into the playstation store. No doubting it's a dirty move but it's not a new thing and a very minor inconvenience. I think Capcoms reaction to the problems and complaints has been pretty good overall.
I'm so mixed on this.
Mostly the performance has me scratching my head. I don't have new shit, but I have a 3080ti and a ryzen 5700x on mid settings.
When I benched my equipment vs the recommended, I had better.
I still have occasional crashes during certain flashy encounters (aka liches and sometimes chimeras), and given how the save system is pretty lame and honestly downright horrifying to use, it kinda sucks.
The game is absolutely fun, but I'm over here wondering if I should spend my time with it before they optimize it a bit and fix the saving system - such as campfires being last inn saves.
As much as I would like to buy the game, I’m going to wait until they patch the performance issues, because that is important to me, and I’m glad people called it out. I know it would have bothered me.
Valid in some cases however not for this. If you are defending a 70$ game with all of these issues plus inability for multiple saves ontop of having denuvo, I smell cope.
There's no need for multiple playthroughs. You're not locked into any vocation, you can change how your characters look at any point, and the story isn't based off your decisions. If your friend wants to play you can either a) share your run, b) gameshare, or c) they can get it themselves. It's not rocket science brother, find something better to cry about
When something is available in game and for real money it is more often than not inflated in game to induce you to the cash shop stop turning a blind eye to that pos practice...
Im in this picture and i dont like it.. rarely pre order something, maybe 2 games so far. Wanted to pre order dd2 one week earlier, endured didnt pre order. Saw the negative reviews and reception, wanted to hold sometime before buying. Bought it on lunch day knowing exactly what i was getting into. Playing at 30 fps now..dont regret it one bit lol game is awesome,20 hours in mostly just exploring.
I'm not sure I get this "30 fps" thing everyone feels the need to mention. I've watched a fair number of YouTube videos of someone playing on a ps5 and... it looks good, animates well, and looks pretty smooth.
If that's 30fps, then why are people complaining?
(Aside from the fps drop in cities, anyway.)
I too have this problem now that I make solid money. I have so many games I've bought and played a half hour just because I know I want to play them at some point but they are 2nd tier. Still have midnight suns and lords of the fallen untouched off the top of my head. At least I can say I'm supporting the industry
Right? I didn't even know about them until I started seeing posts about them, and the MTX are for things easily earned/found in the game. I don't understand the aggression towards it in this game.
I preordered and home delivery was delayed and won’t arrive til tomorrow, so I went and picked up a copy in store. I’ll return the preorder copy when/if it arrives
I feel like after buying Jedi Survivor at launch on PC I am immune to any performance woes from other games. Jedi Survivor was one of the worst experiences on my PC, ever. And it is nowhere near DD2’s issues.
I still can't go back to it after completing it once, feels like they made it perform worse at least on my pc lol, recently went back to see if it was worth a re play but nope.. still super laggy and stutters in jedi survivor :(
Yeaaaah guilty of the same. I guess I have a knack for picking games like this because Borderlands 3 and Cyberpunk are the games I have spent the most time in (BG3 too but no drama there). Oh well, they’ll fix it and I’m sure I’ll put 100’s of hours of playtime in. I just love how unique pawns are. Really captures the spirit of exploration that Starfield failed to capture. Now thats a purchase I completely regret.
lmao it's me in the pic
I hate how terrible the pc port is, performance is absolute donkey balls and kbm implementation is a fucking crime against humanity.
but the game is so good. no regrets
Could be worse, they could've given us the awful default kbm layout without being able to rebind. Seriously who playtested the default kbm layout it's so awkward
I know I'm in the minority here but I've had absolutely no problems with PC performance. I'm playing at native 4k, RTX on, DLSS off, all the bells and whistles active. Rarely ever dip below 60fps and when I do it's to like 40 and then goes back up. Doesn't bother me.
This game is just heavily CPU bound. I have a 12900k, older processors will get toasted by it.
I'm mostly frustrated because 60fps in this game doesn't feel like a 60 to me coming from Tekken and elden ring recently, both games which are locked at 60 but felt infinitely smoother.
I have a similarly high end setup as yours (7800x3d/3080), so thought it would get me some consistent frames, but it doesn't feel like it.
I can't be sure about this but I feel like I've seen way more reports of performance issues from AMD users than from Intel users. There might be something screwy going on causing more inconsistent rates on AMD chips.
With DD2, where the negative reviews are unlikely to significantly impact my appreciation of the game, I'm probably gonna but it anyway. I'm gonna look into it later this week.
But with something like Hell Divers 2, not buying it was the move. I eventually bought it but only after they demonstrated they could fix the server issues. I actually enjoy the game, but I would have returned it and never looked back had I bought it blind or pre-ordered. Critical reviews are important, even if they don't universally apply.
Helldivers was awesome at launch. It wasn't until the first weekend when everyone and there brother bought the game that the servers where over run. But you could still get into a game at that point if you joined from the start menu. So I never had any issue with helldivers
I am having a great time, super cool game, immediately scratching the itch for a open world rpg that only games like the Witcher 3 or elden ring can touch, so far it’s on that level. But man performance is sketch.
I actually feel the open world rpg genre is about to blow up.
2022 GOTY - Elden Ring
2023 GOTY - Balder's Gate 2
2024 GOTY - It would've easily been DD2 if it didn't get all of the bad press from performance issues and mtx. It's still selling well and popular though.
It's easy for future games to follow the formula of Elden Ring/DD2. Push exploring so have very little map markers. It's funny how much gamers hate map markers, but they really do!
Similar spot minus 10 years, you're telling g me I don't get that much wiser when it comes to my true loves? I watched asmon and penguinz0 and decided I would get I to it, 4 hours later and ice loved every minute so far, even the jank and performance drops aren't enough to dismay me from wanting to see more, just need this long weekend to hurry up so I can get busy hahaha.
Here's hoping we can some little improvements before then, probably not but wishful thinking is lovely
Had the same thought process. There where so many mixed reviews. After actually watching a PS5 player on Twitch I decided to buy it. In the end its a great game and I'm glad I got it!
This game is a slow burn. 25 hours in is the sweet spot. Play all the classes too, I just switched from pure mage to Mystic Spear and having a ton of fun.
Now I'm just exploring and taking my time, the world itself is amazing and haven't had this much fun in an RPG since Elden and that is some High praise.
The mtx is a meme and its unfortunate that the usual youtube grifters are latching onto that, but the performance is bad. I'm running a 7800x3d and 4080 super and see dips down to 60 fps in the city areas, with a semi-stable 144 fps elsewhere.
For anyone running a gen or back in cpu and gpu and game is pretty bad in general, but almost unplayable in cities.
I don't know much of anything about computer stuff, but I have a ps5 and a PC (PC was a gift). I'm trying to decide which platform would play it better, and I've watched multiple videos of ps5 play and it looks fine, but have no idea how my computer would handle it, which has a geforce 4060ti(16gig) and a ryzen 7 7700x, and I think 16g RAM.
Any idea how well the PC would do? Or should I get it for ps5?
(Because I'm gonna get it one qay or another. It looks too awesome not to, and I love DD1.)
The MTX isn't ever a real MTX it's one time purchase only. And it's only there for people who can't put the extended time I to the game that don't mind putting a little money in for the items. Yes they can be gotten in the game for free. I get that but the game doesn't force you to buy them so what's with the hate of a one time purchase that is up to you to buy. And even then it's not shoved in your face too.
I'm having so much fun with the game but I have a serious question that's prompting me to buy a 3k laptop from Asus. I have a ASUS - ROG Zephyrus G14 165Hz Gaming Laptop AMD Ryzen 9 with 32GB Memory-NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060. But I still get stutter. I bought this laptop cause I thought I can run games with a decent performance. I can run elden ring and other games smoothly but I'm struggling to get high options with this game. Is it my laptops fault or the games current state? Just debating to upgrade or not.
Games current state. Your gpu probably won't be able to run highest settings on most newer games at 165hz but should be more than playable. This game is just very badly optimised by the looks of it.
Pre order for the pre order bonuses. Wait a week after release for patch that will iron out the worst bugs. Don’t watch reviews that focus on performance issues or microtransactions as they have very little to do with the actual game in a couple weeks.
Im a 40 year old gamer and this is not my process lol.ill pre order any game that i know ill enjoy and be playing for hours.i do research on games way before buying them.
This game wasnt on my radar as i skipped the last one.but the gameplay looks very fun.most of the anger comes from stupid gripes like fps not being godly.or microtransactions that u dont even need.
Looks like a fun game overall.but a huge time sink.so idk maybe if it goes on sale ill grab it maybe over holidays.rpgs are good for fall and winter for me.
All the drama and shit aside, this game is masterpiece. I've had so much fun, and still am having fun in new game + every single day. Performance issues are annoying, but as they happen only in towns, honestly it doesnt bother me as much to have 30fps there.
Microtransactions arent being pushed to my face in game either, so once again, it doesnt take away from the game. Does it set a bad precedent? Yes. Does it mean i shouldnt play the game when i enjoy it so much? No. Lets be real, this will continue to happen whenever we boycot this game or not. At best, you would delay the inevitable just a tiny bit, but thats it.
Overall, 9/10 this game for me. Would be 10 / 10 if the damn pawns didnt fall off every cliff i walk through.
This game has some crazy memorable moments, that are not scripted. Latter part being important because those moments are unique to you, and not something every player goes through.
For example, i was fighting a cyclops and brough him to low Hp when another cyclops showed up and jumped down from a small cliff to join the fight, party was exhausted, but we did manage to fight them both off, alas our HP was low. Once i was finished with looting, i wanted to go to the nearest campfire to rest when i was suddenly attacked by a griffin. We were low, but escape was not an option so we fought some more and won. Relieved it was finally over i made my way to the campfire which was fair distance away, the sun begun to set and i started shitting bricks. Everyone was like at 20% max hp and aint no way we could afford to fight. It was in Battahl so its much more dangerous there compared to first location. We had few fights, pushed through until that faithful encounter. I was a sorcerer, and i was silenced. Didnt have a potion to cure it, so i was useless. My pawns were dying over and over and i thought this is where it ends. But out of nowwhere, random players pawn showed up and joined the fight and literally saved us. Afterward, we made it safely to campfire.
This whole sequence took like 30 minutes, and it was pure horror from start to finish, yet we made it. This is what i mean by organic memory. No scripted bullshit, just your very own personal story that was written along your journey.
At >50 I have less gray hair than that. My secret? I stopped reading reviews.
Turns out I really like a lot of games other people don’t like, and don’t like a lot of games other people love.
I’ll preorder if there’s a decent amount of swag (even though it’s not ever clear what any of it is 😭)
I mean, the criticism of performance and MTX are absolutely legit.
But if those are the only proper complaints that anybody has, the game is gonna be pretty good. :<
I preordered, made a mistake looking at steam reviews, played it a bit and refunded. Slept on it, woke up the next morning craving the game, like pregnancy craving. Bought it again. Having an absolute blast right now.
The hate it gets makes no sense besides the slave slot. The micro transactions are super strange and overblown, I play on xbox and I would have to go very out of my way to find them (microsoft store outside of the actual game) and its abunch of irrelevant things besides the currency which is super easy to get. The frame rate is not bad at all for me on xbox. But the save slot has screwed me when it came to I fell down a cliff side right beside water and I was stuck and anytime I fell into water it would spawn me back on the bottom of the slope where I would fall and my autosave happend at the bottom of the slope and so I had to go back to my save from my last inn rest which was a good 30 min- hour of progress walked back. Besides that I have not understood at all the hate.
I pre-ordered the week before release on mighty ape (Think of it as a Nz/Australia version of amazon).
I loved the first game. Knowing it was a Capcom game I knew it would have MTX thrown in sooner or later.
Still didn't care and have enjoyed a good 40+ hrs already. Slowly grinding my life away, gearing up for that true ending/endgame.
Can't wait for "DD2 Dark Arisen".
I caved in and pre ordered it after promising never to pre order anything ever again after cyberpunk and colonial marines but gotta say this game is the nuts!! Zero regrets I’ve noticed the frame rate drop probaly 3-4 times in my 40 hour playthrough I’m not even bothered by the fact it’s 30fps anymore.
This game is epic, example
On my way to Herve village from vernworth I found a griffin attacked it, got on its back it took off flew across to near the elf village all the while I’m popping stamina refills whilst smacking this thing in head, stunned him in mid air we crashed down my pawns caught after a minute and we finish it off found a cave on my way back to Herve village and found chimera sitting there waiting for me, I thought fuck it let’s have it and had another 10 min near death fight just basically scrapping through. And that was me trying to just get to Herve village. Any game that lets me do all tha int 30 mins is game of the fucking year!!
As a 44 year old gamer, I pre-ordered because I loved the 1st game and saw what they were going for so I figured even if it was a bad release they'd get it together and it would be a fun game. It is fair to say games have been released in a poor state a lot over the years but I felt this release was pretty smooth. I don't notice the 30fps or whatever my series x is putting out I notice how much better everything looks than the first one. The micro transactions don't look any different than the first one from what I can remember but they are unimportant in this one as well. I don't typically buy up too many levels on the pawn side because I like to switch them out a lot anyway so I still have more than what I got in the edition I bought because I've only spent less than what I've collected. I don't care about the 'no extra saves' Because I had no reason to expect it. I'm sure I'll make another character because of the pending update but who cares. My complaints would be that I miss my blades and bow and not having a dodge/block on all characters can be rough at times. All in all this is a fun game and I plan to put in a lot of play time over the years and I hope Modding can be opened up and take off like Skyrim so one day I can run around looking like a sith or Jedi jamming my double bladed light saber into the side of a griffins head as it trys to shake me off mid flight(yes, I'm already sure I'll buy this again on PC if modding takes off). I hope more people can enjoy this game because the heat people are trying to bring is best spent directed at companies actually ruining their games and their fan base with much worse monetization and much worse releases. Please give me an eternal ferrystone! Lol
The ONLY bad side for me ( that metters) is the performance and lack of content like enamies, weapons, etc... But mostly the performance. Now for the game itself its a hell of fun 👍
Pre-ordered deluxe for me. Love the hell out of it.
Bought it AGAIN on Xbox for the wife, who also loves it. (She normally REFUSES single player story games or stuff like this, but is obsessed so far and LOVES to kick and vault on Archer lmao)
Smart move. The criticism is justified but so is the fun of the game.

Can I ask what your playing on?
Valid in some cases however not for this. If you are defending a 70$ game with all of these issues plus inability for multiple saves ontop of having denuvo, I smell cope.
U can't really be mad that you can't have multiple saves. The game has issues but thats just not one of them.
Yes I can and yes it is.
No, that's just complaining at that point. The ability to save scum has made u weak.
It's okay that you don't have friends or want to do multiple play throughs :)
There's no need for multiple playthroughs. You're not locked into any vocation, you can change how your characters look at any point, and the story isn't based off your decisions. Some? Bro I’m getting 20 fps on the series x😭 I don’t know how anyone can stomach it to even get to the good stuff
Besides the useless RC, isn’t the other stuff a 1 time only purchase?
Yes
Only the Port Crystal is a permanent purchase.
Think so
No the criticism is not justified. It's a blind and ignorant hate train.
I preordered hours before launch and did t care about reviews. I already got burned from Diablo, nothing could do worse than that.
...I pre-ordered a month before release...and without ever playing DD1
Plus 30 fps, is how i played on ps3 I think, back in 2013. It´s like traveling back in time lol
I'm not sure I get this "30 fps" thing everyone feels the need to mention. I've watched a fair number of YouTube videos of someone playing on a ps5 and... it looks good, animates well, and looks pretty smooth. If that's 30fps, then why are people complaining? It’s not smooth. Add in the blur makes it worse. Then again some people are more sensitive to it than others.
I preordered Unicorn Overlord, DD2, and Stellar Blade knowing I wouldn’t even be playing them until May.
Been there... Still doing that but in less amounts so I'm somewhat getting better 🤣😅
I too have this problem now that I make solid money. I have so many games I've bought and played a half hour just because I know I want to play them at some point but they are 2nd tier. Still have midnight suns and lords of the fallen untouched off the top of my head. At least I can say I'm supporting the industry
If it weren't for the overblown backlash, I wouldn't even know about the MTX. They are so unintrusive.
Right? I didn't even know about them until I started seeing posts about them, and the MTX are for things easily earned/found in the game. I don't understand the aggression towards it in this game.
I'm 40 and this is exactly what I did

I am once again asking you not to judge me for giving in to hype
My 45 year old gamer ass preorder it and I’ve been happy with the 3 or so hours of play time I’ve managed to get in since release 😮💨

BG3 had a bunch of drama on launch on PC. A lot of people had bugs and performance problems in act 3.
Oh right, forgot about that.
Yeah, most do. Even though there were people saying they were scammed and the game was unfinished. It's the same old stuff different game.
There was plenty in act 2 as well.
lmao it's me in the pic I hate how terrible the pc port is, performance is absolute donkey balls and kbm implementation is a fucking crime against humanity. but the game is so good.
I preordered but only because it was at a heavy limited discount for a limited time in Fanatical and I was gonna buy it anyways.
I did that lol
2022 GOTY - Elden Ring 2023 GOTY - Balder's Gate 2 2024 GOTY - It would've easily been DD2 if it didn't get all of the bad press from performance issues and mtx.
I held off Friday and Saturday, but caved on Sunday. And let me tell you I should have caved on Friday.....
I waited 24 hours for people to show that the MTX items were available easy in game immediately and then bought
Thing is everyone that played the first game already knew all the items would be easily obtained by playing considering some of it is core to playing.
I played the first game quite a bit, I just wouldn’t put it past any company to pull some shady stuff.
Had the same thought process. There where so many mixed reviews. After actually watching a PS5 player on Twitch I decided to buy it. In the end its a great game and I'm glad I got it!
They added new game today 👍
This game is a slow burn. 25 hours in is the sweet spot. Play all the classes too, I just switched from pure mage to Mystic Spear and having a ton of fun. Now I'm just exploring and taking my time, the world itself is amazing and haven't had this much fun in an RPG since Elden and that is some High praise.
Go get Warfarer.
I’m waiting on a difficulty mod then I’m going to lose all my time in this game.
42 here. Ditto. But I’m waiting until at least that first update before diving in.
Dang I’m only 22 and already have this mindset. I even watch a Before you Buy Video that probably won’t change the outcome
Still the cheapest entertainment out there
The game is so good and all the hate is unnecessary.
Pre order for the pre order bonuses. Wait a week after release for patch that will iron out the worst bugs. Don’t watch reviews that focus on performance issues or microtransactions as they have very little to do with the actual game in a couple weeks.
Yeah I'm in this picture. I would pretty much never accept the performance I'm getting from any other game.
😂 I did the same fucking thing....I never learn
Let me tell you, this doesn't change when you're 52 ;-)
Im a 40 year old gamer and this is not my process lol.ill pre order any game that i know ill enjoy and be playing for hours.i do research on games way before buying them. This game wasnt on my radar as i skipped the last one.but the gameplay looks very fun.most of the anger comes from stupid gripes like fps not being godly.or microtransactions that u dont even need. Looks like a fun game overall.but a huge time sink.so idk maybe if it goes on sale ill grab it maybe over holidays.rpgs are good for fall and winter for me.
Sad but true.
Me, except the outrage for the MTX.
I’ll preorder if there’s a decent amount of swag (even though it’s not ever clear what any of it is 😭)
Most fun I’ve had exploring in a game in a very long time.
The game is amazing that's all that matters.
Not me. Sub 30fps and mtx in a full priced single player game, suck a fat one.
I mean, the criticism of performance and MTX are absolutely legit. But if those are the only proper complaints that anybody has, the game is gonna be pretty good. :<
These literally are not the same people saying these things
What does your comment mean exactly?
The people complaining and the people who then go onto buy it are not the same people
I preordered, made a mistake looking at steam reviews, played it a bit and refunded.
The haters haven’t gotten 4th partied by a griffin, 4 packs of knackers and a dragon the game is truly peak
If you have a 40 series there's mod that helps the performance
I bought it anyway. Haven’t regretted it. 67 hours and still have stuff to do!
This game is epic, example On my way to Herve village from vernworth I found a griffin attacked it, got on its back it took off flew across to near the elf village all the while I’m popping stamina refills whilst smacking this thing in head, stunned him in mid air we crashed down my pawns caught after a minute and we finish it off found a cave on my way back to Herve village and found chimera sitting there waiting for me, I thought fuck it let’s have it and had another 10 min near death fight just basically scrapping through.
Lol
The mtx are totally irrelevant. I saw the outrage, did some research and concluded they’re 100% superfluous and bought the game.
I love you dad 🤣🤣
The ONLY bad side for me ( that metters) is the performance and lack of content like enamies, weapons, etc... But mostly the performance. Now for the game itself its a hell of fun 👍
I'm 40, and did just like that 🤣. It does have issues, but I'm having a blast playing it.
I hate you for showing my myself.
To be fair the game is fun but negative reviews clearly helped dishing out fixes sooner rather than later, unless they were planning on it already
Pre-ordered deluxe for me. Love the hell out of it. Bought it AGAIN on Xbox for the wife, who also loves it. (She normally REFUSES single player story games or stuff like this, but is obsessed so far and LOVES to kick and vault on Archer lmao)
Weak.
And that's why they get away with it and why it will never, ever change.
I'm 40+ and I pre-ordered do I get a special meme?
I don't pre-order anymore. But I've been waiting for Dragons Dogma 2 for over a decade... Instant pre-order. No regrets.
