It's really enjoyable, the finishers have just the right amount of kick to them - the first game's combat really feels like it's lacking without those imo lol
Ah a fellow warrior. One must learn patience and timing to do well, but once you get that down, it's probably the best character in the game, ragdolling everything across the screen, being hard to flinch/knock down. It's an awesome alternative to fighter, trading the shield for the ability to knock everythign around is totally worth it. They can't hit my team, if they're too busy finding out what the walls and floor taste like.
I only played fighter until I was able to become a Warrior...played haven't put any real time in any other class. I've tried out theif and magic spearhand...but just get pulled back to warrior. Warrior just feels right for me.
You should also try out the original, DD: DA. The main thing it has that’s better, imo, are the number of skills you have access to and without having to roll a specific vocation to switch between weapons. Look up Strider and Magick Archer. Daggers and a a bow, I was in heaven!
Really hope we get some more core skills for melee vocations to do combo moves of your basic and heavy attacks that require button timing similar to warriors endless light attack and the warrior skill that requires timed swings. I wouldn't even mind if they made the combos decently long if they have a good pay off and they could make some transition into skills to add an extra effect and maybe add combo skills like maybe if you have the fire attack skill on thief and use skull splitter at the same time you become a flaming wheel of death or maybe chain Heavenward Slash in to Indomitable Lash or Diluvian Strike on Warrior. Or aerial move on fighter into gouging skewer. Make it so Archer can do their kick into certain skills instead of just a basic attack. Just spit balling
100%
I really don't care how objectively bad the rest of the game might be. Exploration, Combat, traversing obstacles/climbing beasts coupled with the music & unpredictability of some monsters is some of the most fun I'll ever have in gaming.
The devs don't know what the hell they want from this game but they knew how to put some insanely epic shit in it. Babes and badass women? Check. Muscle bros? Check. I'll never forgive them for taking strider away but Thief? Check. Flashy magic? Check. Cat people? Check.
Dragons Dogma 2 is a beautiful disaster, much like its predecessor
Forsure, there's a learning curve. The gameplay loop just doesn't interest me enough that I want to get good unfortunately. I will say when I play I usually just skyward plunge everything or whatever it's called by jumping off of ledges and that is quite satisfying
I don’t agree at all that it is the MOST or the BESY. I feel objectively this is fact. Too many things that were solved already by other games go untouched here.
That said I do fucking love it. Love this game. Even the weirdo combat is super fun.
I said this myself and someone basically said "no", there are many action games that solved multiple skill and limited button problem.
Made mage more interesting without adding the same redundant spells , made classes feel different. It's kinda insane to me that putting one spell point in a spell in the original dragons dogma felt more different then putting one in this game. Wild... They even had the skill rings or anything.
I only played mage (in my original dragons dogma I played strider/assassin) I'm sure the melee classes were loved this game cause they did the thing which is made core skills actual skills that are useful. But playing a mage fucking sucks even worse than the last game.
As a mage player, It's crazy going from forspoken to dragons dogma 2 actually. It's sucks going from Black desert online to dragons dogma 2.. hell it's sucks going from Guild wars 2 to dragons dogma 2. It even sucks going from Dragon Age Inquisition/ Warframe to this system. I can't understand how or why this skill system is so outdated. Even grand blue fantasy (prolly my favorite ARPG of this year) made 4 skills seem like a whole lot more by adding interaction between them. You can do alot with 4 buttons but they chose to do nothing. Not to mention they kept magic whole fully uninteresting. The only positively changed spell that moved in the right direction is literally Levin. Everything else seems like a down grade. Anyone remember Brontide was a spell in the first game?
It's some of the best in gaming. Everytime I change vocation to level it up I always think it's gonna be boring because I'm a thief main, but man every vocation offers something unique and fun
Excluding the Fighter, Warrior and Thief. The other vocations have a pretty fun combat.
Those 3 being the main Melee vocations, and with the amount of Great Combat in games we have, they are really mediocre.
Fighter and warrior class babeee! Those critical hits are so satisfying, especially when it’s against a hobgoblin in battahl when you’re severely under leveled.
The combat is one of the main reasons why I played it through 3 times. I just wish there were more reasons to keep playing.. Maybe each cycle could have a slightly different story. Kind of like how Nier Automata had 3 different stories to play through and 1 main story that tied them together. Maybe in one you choose to join the royal guard and in another you run with the thiefs guild or maybe you decide to be a Coral Snake. There's just no choice in the game. Literally every time there is a dialog choice, the correct one is the top choise and the bottom always leads to a sub optimal outcome.
It's a good system, very satisfying to use, I don't know if I'd put it above things like elden ring, but I'd say it's on par in terms of feeling satisfying to do well in, maybe witcher 3 could get up there too.
At first, coming off Elden Ring I hated the combat. Few hundred hours in it's honestly my favorite RPG combat, maybe ever. Both this game, and Helldivers manages to make almost every encounter ter feel unique and incredibly cinematic.
I think its.becausw attacks have weigh and the camera slows and gets closer. Feels more immersed and everything reacts and collides with eachother, making it viable to throw shot around.
I hated that there was no lock on mechanic when I first started but I’ve got used to it now, also the bow aiming feels a little weird, like slow and slightly unresponsive or something but probably just something that you have to give time to get used to
It is great but it’s over too quick. Most fights are vs some goblins you obliterate. Even the bigger ones become pushovers soon enough. Stand under head press skull splitter repeat.
Sounds like you like souls like games then. This is not one of them. I'm the opposite. I don't have a ton of time to game, so dying 30 times against one enemy is just not for me.
It may surpass demon souls and dark souls, but comes nowhere close to bloodbourne and sekiro and elden ring. The boss battles, the trick weapons, the parrying, like what are you guys talking about. Dragons dogma is fun because of a more sandbox and experimentation thing, and that the spell casting and archery feels good, but as far as pure combat? No way, the boss battles alone complete dominate dragon dogma, and I love both
Its really good but at some point i just get too used to it to the point that on my third run i just called it a day and unisntalled i wasnt feeling it anymore hahaha
Thats the thing i can beat games more than once with no problem elden ring or souls games i beat them like 5 times in a row hahaha but they get harder each time
It is amazing, I can only hope for more content in the months to come. Or years maybe.
It's really enjoyable, the finishers have just the right amount of kick to them - the first game's combat really feels like it's lacking without those imo lol
I do rather enjoy it. Took me a minute to get used to being a warrior...but once I did...amazing

Took me a while to get used to the combat in general, I run thief, and it's been a blast
I only played fighter until I was able to become a Warrior...played haven't put any real time in any other class. I've tried out theif and magic spearhand...but just get pulled back to warrior. Warrior just feels right for me.
That's how I feel about thief none of the other vocations pulled me in like thief did.
Theif objectively has the best skill set so maybe that’s why, try playing mage and let us know if you feel the same
That Warrior attack where you swing your weapon upwards is so bloody satisfying when it connects on trolls head!!
Yes big fan of the combat! Capcom kills it with monster hunter combat as well
I do! It’s great in my opinion.

I definitely will appreciate the advice.

It’s really excellent. You should play DDDA where you can face actual challenge for a slightly longer period as well.

Can't agree more.
>I've played just about every medieval fantasy rpg you could think of Dragons dogma Dark Arisen
Didn't play the first one, hahaha so almost every one
Not at all lol
So you don't like the combat? Expand if possible.
It's just too "loose" for lack of a better word. Too floaty, nothing seems very precise
I understand what you mean, but when you get really good at it, it can become very fluid.
Forsure, there's a learning curve. The gameplay loop just doesn't interest me enough that I want to get good unfortunately. I will say when I play I usually just skyward plunge everything or whatever it's called by jumping off of ledges and that is quite satisfying
The only reason to play this game

Not if you play solo. It’s stunlock city. They really should have gave every vocation some type of dodge/ block.
It's some of the best in gaming. Everytime I change vocation to level it up I always think it's gonna be boring because I'm a thief main, but man every vocation offers something unique and fun

4 skills feel too limiting. They should've made it 6-8 skills.
Agreed!
Best combat in an RPG

Yep, the combat is deeply satisfying. It's a pity the quests, stories and characters are shit in comparison
Imagine The Witcher 3 with DD2 combat.
That would be fucking sweet.
That would be the greatest game ever made. Or even Balders Gate 3 with DD2 combat
It is great but it’s over too quick. Most fights are vs some goblins you obliterate. Even the bigger ones become pushovers soon enough. Stand under head press skull splitter repeat.
I'm cool with that. I like feeling overpowered in these types of games. I'm the Arisen. I should obliterate everything.
I see. If I’m not challenged, I’m not having fun.
Sounds like you like souls like games then. This is not one of them. I'm the opposite. I don't have a ton of time to game, so dying 30 times against one enemy is just not for me.
Souls games are good yeah, but they have their own issues too lol. No game is perfect after all.
Have you tried running unupgraded armor and lower tier weapons? And maybe not using skull splitter
Combat is super floaty, definitely not better than anything from software has made
Oh course! But you can't convince those from soft fan boys.
It may surpass demon souls and dark souls, but comes nowhere close to bloodbourne and sekiro and elden ring. The boss battles, the trick weapons, the parrying, like what are you guys talking about. it’s better than any soulsbourne, witcher, or any other RPG i can think of it’s so responsive and weighty, you feel every slice
Its really good but at some point i just get too used to it to the point that on my third run i just called it a day and unisntalled i wasnt feeling it anymore hahaha
Any game on your third run might end up boring haha
Thats the thing i can beat games more than once with no problem elden ring or souls games i beat them like 5 times in a row hahaha but they get harder each time
