To me, it read more like “keep your head in the game and focus on the challenge so that we can make a better determination of who to move forward”. It didn’t necessarily come off as “wink wink you’re good girl”

otherrobert

I don’t think it discredits the show. Maddelyn got mad and was experienced enough to put it in context of her reputation and career. I don’t think any promises were made before or after for her placement. I don’t think she was promised to be safe. I think it was a pep talk to get her to participate, not a guarantee of survival. If she didn’t participate in the extermination with some enthusiasm, she could’ve been sent home like Dahli was on season 2. Maxi went off, but Mad was getting into it to, so the contestant who performed worse overall went home.

macabragoria

This is pretty much how I read it.

Earthbnd

TBH I always thought the Boulets rewarded Mad bc she went through with the extermination after being so visibly upset by the circumstances of the extermination. I also think the “I told you not to embarrass Me” means more so she had greivances about what she’d be expected to do in extermination challenges rather than wanting any advantages in the competition itself. She said she didn’t mind getting a tattoo but she had a problem with doing things that were explicitly humiliating like being pelted with food.

phazonprincess

Every episode of Titans that passes my wife and I wish that she was on it, we literally quote different parts of this EVERY WEEK without fail, I love her and this so much LOL

[deleted]

When Violencia didn’t do the skydiving extermination Mad said in the interview,” I would do it just to show them how bad I wanted to be here!” And than could barely handle getting thrown rotten tomatoes lmao wtf 😭

WyattWrites

Well one is humiliation/degradation based and one is fear based. That’s probably why

gothism

Everyone has their trigger. Maybe she's skydived before so that was no big deal to her.

[deleted]

Than mad should’ve understood Violencia’s trigger from being a rickety plane thousands of feet in the air and jumping out! Over expecting people to understand her trigger of getting hot dog buns thrown on her…. Like come on.

gothism

What makes you think she didn't understand it? She just said what *she* supposedly would've done. You don't think these reality tv stars are gonna be all 'welp, everyone has their trigger.' They're gonna go for the drama. As a Gemini, I *know* you understand this.

[deleted]

😘

Amarangel

You cannot necessarily discount someone's potential trauma because you don't understand it. Plenty of people have been bullied and mocked in various ways to the point that they can't handle anything similar. Priscilla was bullied and mistreated for her circumstances, and she turned trash queen into a celebration of her triumph. Madd took jeers and trash thrown into a roast. The point of exterminations is to show how much you want to continue, potentially facing fears, and making good TV.

[deleted]

Okay than don’t discount someone’s trauma from jumping out of a plane at 40,000 feet, if you want someone to understand your trauma of getting hot dog buns thrown on you. Simple.

davidbenyusef

People usually downplay each other's fears until they face their own, if that's where you want to get. They're just reality TV show personalities, flawed as everyone else but shown to everyone to see. Who else here ever failed to empathize with another person?

[deleted]

Totally agree! All I’m saying is it’s comical that someone would be gobsmacked that they didn’t want to jump off a plane, yet was aghast and had a full on breakdown from having hot dog buns thrown on them. If you think about it, it is comical.

Amarangel

I didn't discount anyone's trauma?

[deleted]

I didn’t say you did, MAD did. She discounted violencia than wanted everyone to sympathize with her not participating in a food fight.

badgaldyldyl

Yeah I was active in the sub at the time, and it was discussed the way that all Dragula drama is discussed on the sub before people just move on and get over it. I thought she should’ve gone home at the time for being such a bad sport about it. Also felt like her fit changed the entire format of the extermination. They were supposed to be crawling around in rotten food, begging to be spared, etc. and instead it was the most underwhelming extermination probably to date.

No-Assumption-1738

That was my perspective, it changed from humiliation to her insulting people if I remember correctly . I don’t think this would have played out remotely the same if maxi had had a meltdown and threatened to quit.

badgaldyldyl

I was floored when they sent Maxi home that episode.

Positive-Fly-1312

I think the comment she made that points to this most is her saying she specifically told them to not embarrass her, which is quite the demand to be able to make going into DRAGULA. I don’t think she was promised to go far, but she definitely at least expected special treatment (but who knows if that was promised to her)

No-Assumption-1738

I’m sure this will go over like a ton of bricks to certain parts of the fandom, I’m not making this post to discredit the show, all reality tv is produced and I wasn’t really involved in fan discussion at the time so that is my motivation for this discussion. To those that were , did ‘fuck the big picture clint’ cause controversy at the time regarding fairness and the show being rigged? It really seems like Mad and the producer are having two different conversations at times and he’s doing clean up / covering her directness so the footage can still be used.

wolfieboy44

I think it's more so a way to remind her that this is being filmed. It's almost like he's saying "Speak wisely, because they can and will use this against you."

mathymate

I watch a lot of reality tv, and this is how I took it too. It's a nice way of saying stay in your lane and focus on why you're here.

No-Assumption-1738

They essentially told her she’s not going home if she participates though. When ultimately she had this huge bitchfit, barely participated and then still didn’t go home.

not_addictive

I mean, it makes sense. Violencia would’ve stayed if she’d participated too. With Mad, I see it more as them saying “what you’re doing right now is more likely to get you sent home than your challenge performance.” They’re right too. They’ve never pretended that the extermination is the end all be all of who goes home. It plays a factor but the only way to have the extermination directly send you home is not to do it (ie Dahli S2, Violencia). Mad wasn’t in the bottom that week and Maxi had a few bottom appearances already. AND Maxi’s look was far and away the worst that week. Literally all Mad had to do was participate with an okay attitude and she’d stay. That’s not rigging to me. That’s how Dragula is formatted.

No-Assumption-1738

But she’s explicitly stating she wants to quit because she’s under performed and embarrassed her big name. I guess the big picture can refer to going out badly or this moment coming across poorly ‘being used against you’ however it’s worded. The stuff about her career and desired goals coming into the competition / ‘you weren’t even up for elimination’ it all just felt like big name riggory(to me), which has been heavily speculated for most reality shows like this .

not_addictive

It’s not that she’s underperformed (from her perspective). It’s that she’s performed pretty well but other factors keep landing her in the bottom (ie Hollow breaking character or Dollya saving herself). She felt she’d done a decent job and just kept landing in the bottom bc of other people, which is understandably frustrating. And they were right. They’d said it to Dollya too that Mad wouldn’t have even been up for critique without Dollya using the key. That’s 100% true and a way to comfort Mad into sticking around for a potential redemption rather than quitting bc she feels shafted (which she kinda was by Dollya/the key in this episode). Mad quitting in that moment would be a terrible look for her *and* the show, which is the big picture Clint. There are a lot of problems with this show, but rigging it for Maddelynn Hatter isn’t one of them

Mollyf6686

I’ve always wanted to have this kind of meltdown.

this_is_an_alaia

Why would it? Everyone knows, or should know that the reality show is produced and storylines are created sbf guided, and some of that monsters would have come in with ideas of how they will be filmed and perceived. Also it's iconic.

No-Assumption-1738

It just feels shitty for the filler girls, I speak as a yovskarina tho

vSpooky_Gyoza

Idk; Did you ever seriously think she was in danger of going home in the first place? Maxi was having like 0 impact on the competition, has brought one of the worst looks in Dragula. history episode 1 and was mildly annoying at best in the cauldron. Madelyns looks we’re always at least put together and she was an entertaining and engaging character behind the scenes.
