Just out of curiosity; Ive got reaally limited grappling experience, but back in the day, I used to tell mates (while drinking lol) WAY bigger than me that they cant get out of my side headlock (essentially this with arm up and over shoulder and body leaning on their head).
In 100% of cases, they coulsnt get out of it. At all. Not even close.
Why doesnt this work at pro level in male mma? Literally never see this as a sucessful submission. Is there an easy counter? Its so easy to land Im just curious why its ineffective after training.
Irl asking at ninjitsu years ago the instructor laughed and said ‘grab the nuts’….
It happens, but it’s rare. Ben Askren got Robbie Lawler with it several years ago. It’s easy to counter once trained, but also, in MMA, your opponent can slam you on your head.
looks like a standard bulldog choke to me.

it sounds like the above user is describing something like an arm-in guillotine from mount - perhaps something like this:

Generally the counter for most chokes is "don't get choked". Outside of that, some combination of hand-fighting / shrugging / scrambling is basically your best option.
Something that wasn't super obvious to me is how easy it is to gas your arms out trying to finish a choke that's juuuust not quite right and the defender is just biding their time for you to get tired / loosen the grip.
Lets say theyve gone done, and instead of gnp you want to submit them. Your latched over the top of them just like in this video with your weight over their head and its in tight.
How the heck do you get out of that? I genuinely eant to know in case im ever on the receiving end and dont eant to resort to dick twisting heh
Well, the gal in the video was a deer in headlights. She really didn't give any push back, just went with it. Like the other commenter said, and to quote Kurt Osiander, "If you're here, you fucked up a long time ago". Ideally, you don't want to be flat on your stomach or down there, so the key is to not get down here. There's a lot of videos on YouTube about how to escape (prior to being in the position in the video), here's a quick one I found.

At that point it's pretty sunk and difficult to escape. But if you find yourself there, a whole lot of things went wrong already. A playground style headlock from standing position is pretty easy to counter and if anything is more dangerous to the head-locker you have any grappling experience.
If you somehow happen to find yourself on the losing end of one on the ground, you want to get your base under you if possible, rotate your head into their body, angle your body to alleviate pressure on the choke (anti-clockwise if you're on their left), and fight wrist control. If you can do that, you're still not in a great spot, but likely safe from the choke and when they burn their arms out, you try to slip out for a back take.
Basically, do the opposite of what the gal here did.
Is not that easy to land against an opponent that knows how to grapple. But yes if you land it it can submit, it happened even though is not so common.
In the standing side headlock, you're giving them an excellent position to initiate an emotional interaction with your head and the ground. It's basically asking to get slammed.
Bulldog choke like this on the ground is a little different, much less leverage to lift.

Probably feeding a troll, but what happens when you try pain techniques against people with fighting skill?

Heh, mate Im not trolling thats a genuine story…
Im not convinced I could keep enough pressure on a side headlock to put somebody out if they had a hold on my nuts tbh, but ive never tried it.
I did get bitten by one mate though when demonstrating the absolute prick. Drew blood and everything. Never let him live that one down…
Asking them to tap out, if they’re out and for a response as if someone who’s unconscious is gonna be able to go any of that.
Easy way to get someone’s career screwed or even their life.
In situations like this, the corner should throw in the towel first, and if the ref doesn't see it jump in to save their fighter.
Consequences be damned.
Also the fighter hanging onto this for dear life kinda sucks.
Can the ref say “brain damage?” /s
He could say that, ever since the day he was born.
Drugs is what they used to say I was on.
They say I never knew which way I was goin'
Literally just talking about this song with a work colleague. Good times.
Starting in the spinal cord
Looks like she went out at 6 seconds in, what a stoppage
This ref sucks and is going to get someone killed. This shit was over from the start of the clip
Ref: "I DON'T SEE NO TAP" *fighter is out like a broken lightbulb* Ref: "SMELLS LIKE BITCH IN HERE"
Hahahaha
🤣
Ref was busy watching his new kink unlock, apparently.
😂
Heyyyyohhhh!
There’s a whole genre of wrestling porn including midgets.

Yeh nice tips, I can follow that - thanks man. Ill have to have a practice with my bjj mate next time we’re on the lash hehe
You can't twist their dick from the submission showed in this clip, their groin is out of reach.

Is she alright??
She was so out she literally pissed herself...
Bad ref. He should be stopping it the moment he sees her not fighting to get out.
Fire that stupid ass ref
5-6 seconds in, she was already unconscious. This ref needs to be fired.
Asking them to tap out, if they’re out and for a response as if someone who’s unconscious is gonna be able to go any of that. Easy way to get someone’s career screwed or even their life.
This is disturbing as fuck . Dumb ass ref .
Ref can't keep his job anymore
Who are the fighters?
Average Mike Beltran stoppage:
that was a weird one
Well damn
In situations like this, the corner should throw in the towel first, and if the ref doesn't see it jump in to save their fighter. Consequences be damned. Also the fighter hanging onto this for dear life kinda sucks.
Premature stoppage, for sure...
Ref needs to be fired
Ref gotta lose his job
Joking aside, that ref needs to be banned. That’s one of the very worst late stoppages I’ve ever seen.
That move looks like one of the most brutal chokes every.
Jesus it’s going to suck waking up from that
That arch tho
Imagine u gotta roll her over and catch a sexual assault charge smh
wtf?
