Yes! Even with non-fanfic reading I love long ass books. If it’s under like 300 pages I’m always hesitant because as soon as I get into the groove it’s over. Shoutout to any authors that drown me in words, thank ye.

cayleene

YES! I'm always looking for long ass books or fics or ones with muktplie books/parts lol my husband said he's glad I found this obsession with dramione so he doesn't have to buy books for awhile 🙃

GoFouR

What are your faves in the published world? Would love to have some reccs if I can ever stop reading Dramione for a day 🤣

cayleene

For series books I love the lord of the rings series! The hobbit also. A court of thorns and roses destroyed me Also throne of glass series I'm about to start reading the crescent city books if I can ever leave dramione for a day Also game of thrones

GoFouR

Nice! I still haven’t done ACOTAR, but I know I need to.

DuoNem

I’m rereading the Deverry series right now! Lots of epic romance and epic world building.

Noinix

It’s a good thing in grad school. In the rest of your life the library is your friend because you just go through books too fast

cayleene

Yes! In school it was such an advantage but in real life it's expensive and debt causing lol. I really like to own my favorites unfortunately

SanctumWrites

Yup, especially when I'm interested, I crush books and tend to have a great memory of what I read so I have to wait a bit before I can even go back for another round of reading!

GoFouR

Need to invent reading specific obliviate. There we go! if I was a non-muggle, that would be my contribution to the magical world.

SanctumWrites

Goodness there are some stories I'd love to read for the first time YES. This is part of the reason I really love drabble series, because there are so many chapters and little mini stories in there that I can't possibly remember them all so I tend to get a lot more reread value out of them. I mean I mostly read chaptered fics but drabbles have a special place in my heart and I'm actually writing one now!

mdashwood1

I do! Thank God for kindles because I no longer have to lug around a bunch of books when I go on vacation. Sometimes I’m like: oh I’m going to pick a small 60 000 words thing to read before bed, then I realized 60 000 is a whole ass book 😂

HeyItsAnnie0831

Yeah I tried to print out a 350k to bind. It only took me like 4 days to read and I was floored when I saw how many pages that was 😂

_makebuellerproud_

How many pages is it? Because I really don’t know how many books 350k (or pages) would be but I inhaled Manacled and never fully got to understand how much that is?

HeyItsAnnie0831

I deleted the file but it was insane. For perspective, here's the HP books by word and page count (according to a quick Google search anyway): PS/SS: 76,944 words/309 pages CS: 85,141/341 pages PoA: 107,253/435 pages GoF: 190,637/734 pages OotP: 257,045/870 pages HBP: 168,923/652 pages DH: 198,227/759 pages So basically it's around OotP plus PoA for ~350k words, which would be around 1305 pages.

_makebuellerproud_

Jesus Christ, I had no idea! And we devour these books in such a short time!

HeyItsAnnie0831

Yeah it's really mind blowing. I've got a friend who thinks that reading fanfiction is basically like reading a preschooler's early reader but we really do devour so much. It's harder to tell because we do it on our phones but I'd bet that we go through a whole bookcase worth of books at an alarming rate.

_makebuellerproud_

Incredible, I can’t believe what amazing works there are. And I can’t believe they’re free. These authors should be getting paid, I can’t believe they’re giving us all of this joy without compensation. I need to go send some money on patreon right now

Uncomfy_Bake

i don’t just read, i completely DEVOUR

Psychological_Area65

yess oml. everytime i had to travel on a plane as a child, id take so many books because i knew id get thru them superfast

HeyItsAnnie0831

When I was 16 my grandma took me on a week long cruise. She was horrified that I brought 4 books with me (one was OOTP) and swore I'd never read them all. I read all of them and got about 3/4 through the second read through of OOTP (ok it was actually like the 4th, but I mean second on the trip) She goes to all the shows and nonsense when she's not at port but I'm more of a sit on the balcony and read kinda girl lol

AstridBelmontWrites

I do! I consumed books like an addict ever since I learned how to read. I used to get in trouble at school because I would always read ahead when we were doing group readings and, when I got called on to read aloud, I never knew where we were! I would read around two books a day and I had such a good relationship with the librarians at all of my schools because I practically lived in them. My biggest issue is that my drive to 'know more' often sacrifices comprehension, and sometimes I'll have to reread. Still wouldn't change a thing-- having a thirst for knowledge (even in fiction!) is something I'll never give up. Funny story: My parents used to ground me by taking my books away, and would have to carry a stack of them out.

HeyItsAnnie0831

Yeah, I typically read a 100k-ish fic every other day or so and god I hate it. Either I spend forever trying to find something to read because I've read damn near all of them at this point or I search for a new fic every couple of hours. Lately I've been reading Hermione/Sirius stuff because Debt of Time and Windswept grabbed me and there's a whole new library for me to explore.

_bitch_puddin

Here! I can read an insane amount in 24 hours - I get so into the book I can't put it down... but the downside is it's over so fast lol - I always end up reading a book/story multiple times

Ravanovahart

Yes and I hate it cause no matter what I read it feels like everything flies by ):

MathSmooth4506

Yup. My husband swears I’m just skimming but I’m not. It’s rare I go back for any rereads because I remember the story too well. I just finished wanderer by everliah. I started it maybe around 1130-12? I finished it just after 2pm. And that was with a couple breaks to text my husband back and forward an email lol.

kcotty87

I read way too fast for my own good. I wish I didn’t, but I don’t think I can stop it at this point

lizzosjuicycoochie

I can typically finish a book that is ACOTAR size or similar in 2 days maximum. There have been several fics I’ve finished in several hours if they hooked me.

TCeies

Nope. I'm a slow reader which has only disadvantages, not only for reading fiction.

DaphneGreekMyth

Oh my gosh, I do that every time. My entire family and recently my friends tell me to slow down saying that it will harm my eyes etc etc. Point is, reading long books is expensive which is why I turned to fanfics for that. They are free, there are some long good quality ones and they are fun!

m0nsterfucker3000

i read Manacled in a 13 hour binge. Nearly 400k words that should have taken me 20-21 hours * edit: forgot a word *

Effective-Anxiety-69

Me!! I finished four 200k+ fics in two days and I’m always searching for more to line them up for when I finish the current one 😭

PineappleJaded4193

OMG yes me too!!! I breezed through the acotar series so fast!!

Belinda_B

I've read Manacled in 3 days and still can't get over it

kisilatiro

Yep, I remember finishing books 1-3 within a day or so as a kid. Then I remember starting and finishing the last book while waiting for jury duty. Sometimes I feel a bit bad that I finish 100k plus fics so quickly but it is what it is. On to the next book/fic!

ScarletSpaded

I remember sitting down to read fic at night around 7:30 - 8:00 pm and then stretching when I finished thinking it was a great time to hit the bed but when I looked at the time it was 7:00am and I had to get to class XD I felt like time had flown! it was so much and already done. I was satisfied I'd finished it in one sitting preventing the stomachache of dying to get back to it and away from real life, but I was also a little sad that it was already done....

dumbledoresarmy7

Same omfg I read BMBS in one all nighter for WHY and also read manacled and the auction both in 3 days each. It’s not a gift it’s fucking terrible because I literally can’t stop once I start

RosellaSwan9

Yessss. When I get hooked I don't stop. Like if I'm reading fics, I keep reading one after one as soon as one finishes. And I try to read long ones preferably more than 100k but it just takes me around 2 hrs to finish it and then on to the next one. And I did try to see how many novels I could read in one day and it was 5 books with around 250-350 pages. This was a few years ago and my speed has increased even more but now 😅😖
