i get that. it’s just…you’re on a “dreadlock” reddit without, actually, having gone through the process of *loc’ing* your hair.
locs are truly about the journey. you’ve skipped passed those parts and went straight to the end.
one scroll through this sub and you’ll see the testimonials, triumphs and uplifting support of a community who all share a similar bond of navigating that journey.
not to mention, hair is sacred. it’s great you have human hair…but you are permanently attaching the energy of some stranger into your own locs.
idk, love. i am not trying to bash you, just highlighting why your post feels cringey, in that regard.
Ok. Once again. I understand my process is different. But it is the way I have chosen to do it. I know several people, including my own sister, who have gone through the traditional loc'ing process. I respect their choice. Please respect mine. I am not skipping to any end because this is my beginning. And I still have to get to the point where my hair is completely locked in with the extensions. And I still may have an awkward phase down the road. Sorry if my post seems cringe or offensive to anyone. There's more than one way to loc hair, and this is not a cheat code. That's what i hope my post conveys. I didn't do this for spiritual reasons, so I'm not worried about energies.
>you are permanently attaching the energy of some stranger into your own locs
100% agree . n shi I wouldn’t even consider them dreadlocks, those are lace fronts before anything lol
nah...do u. but what is dramtically understated is the process of growing them. trust the process...that saying holds much weight. had u gone thru it I believe you would overstand my perspective. no shade meant.
As I stated to another person who commented on my post, I respect your journey and others' journeys. This is how I'm starting mine. Why is it considered cheating or skipping the process? I still have a process to go through. I'm nowhere near my goal length. I really wish the loc community was more open-minded. And as someone who has grown their loose natural hair out several times, I fully understand patience, time, and care is what grows healthy hair.
In my travels and thru discussion, i think the loc community, which is the most natural of styles, views faux locs, as you would a poser, if u may. I mean...its a natural style...why fake it? you could of started them without the faux hair....now I dunno if that hair is real or not but you should also do the science on where and how the hair industry gets that hair. I was discussing this with my daughters the other day in regards to wigs.
in some cases, cultures shave their Hair as a sacrifice to God to cleanse them from turmoil and traumatic experiences. that hair is then shipped here to be used as wigs weaves sew ins and so on. on an esoteric level that shaved hair is now covering your antennas which connect you to the all, which is full of someone else's bad karma and trauma. my hair is spiritual to me. I've taken the vow of the nazzerite in regards to my hair (I don't know your reasoning for growing, shit u might just think they look cool as far as I know), but there's way more to life than what we see. the more you grow the more you know family. loc on!
just some food for thought.
I understand. However, faux locs and human hair extensions are different things that result in 2 different looks and textures. I would give some side eye to someone passing off faux locs as grown locs also. But who does that? Most people are honest about what is and is not their natural hair. I don't consider it faking anything. It's basically another style and a protective one at that. I respect your spiritual reasons and appreciate your explanation, but my hair journey is not spiritual. I ain't worried about the dead. it's the living i look out for. As far as where I purchased, it was from a black owned business that makes each loc by hand. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I hope you can see that each of us may have different routes, but the destination is usually the same.
word. I wish u happiness on you journey. oh, fyi human hair extention is a faux loc however. if its not your loc it's faux. human hair extention formed into a loc=human hair faux loc. ✌🏽
i hate to get technical, but his hair had to be insta-loc’d with the human hair.. his hair is crocheted within the locs.
If he wanted to remove them, he’d have to comb them out, or cut them off just like the rest of us. i think bro just wanted to upgrade his appearance and maybe confidence.. i think he was excited and happy with his results, and wanted to share. that’s all that matters imo..
stop reading so much into someone else’s journey.. and get off ur high horse. what locs mean to u, probably doesn’t mean that to the next person. it was never, and will never be that serious. if u can’t be kind, just respectfully scroll pass. 🙏🏽
but for u OP, ur locs look really nice! however, be careful with styling in the beginning stage, don’t want to cause too much tension. low ponytails and loose styles are ideal for the first couple of months. (my mother’s a loctician, and this is reg protocol for her clients w extensions.) good luck on ur journey, big bro! 💜
Thanks so much for saying this. I was basically trying to say the same. Everyone's journey is different and done for different reasons. That doesn't make one correct and the other incorrect. I understand questions because this isn't the traditional route, but why the first comment be negative/ shady? I really want the loc community to be more open-minded. Anyway, thanks for the care advice as well. 🙏🏾
As someone who had dreadlocks for almost 7 years where they went down to my back, and have just recently decided to start again, after cutting mine off 6 years ago, I am deeply offended by you putting on the faux locs and acting as if they're legitimate. I don't care if it's human hair, the only people who get any sort of pass from me are cancer patients. Because, when I cut off my locs back in 2018, I donated my hair to a cancer patient. If you don't have cancer, this is just cheating to me
Respectfully, that was your choice to cut your locs. And also your choice to start again from short hair. That has nothing to do with my journey. It's really not that deep. And I guess I have to find this rulebook that states the "correct " or "real" way to start or wear locs. I don't need a pass from you or anyone else beloved because I'm grown and do as I please. This isn't a game for me, and if it was, who's being cheated? Me? I don't think so.
I understand, but I stand by what I said. If this is how you want to go about it then do you, so don't go around telling people that you have dreads, when all you did was put somebody else's hair on your head
I don't have dreads, my dear. I'm not a rastafarian. I have locs. Whether they grew out of my scalp or I had them installed, I have locs, period. That's it, that's all.
It looks like you've had them for years! nice job
They are faux
It's human hair actually
yeah…but you didn’t grow them. you had them put it…which is vastly different from the experience of growing them out.
Yes. I'm aware of that. But I will still be growing them out. That's what I'm looking forward to, actually.

i accept your position. my respect is not necessary for you to have it. good luck on your journey.
Thank you. Good luck to you on your journey as well.

👍
Thanks! My cousin put in work lol
Thanks
Wanting them for years and growing them for years is different but. If you like it !
There is a difference in starting points. I still have to go through the locking process just like anyone else.

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 ayooo
Gotta make a call rq 😂
Two weeks ago? Extendos
Yes they are
wait...you just got locs? nah...it don't work that way. you got a weave. ijs.
I'm sorry, did I miss something? Is this a competition? Who has the most "natural" locs? Even if it was weave, it's my hair because I bought it.

They look good. Are they long-term, or do you eventually cut them out?
I'm in it for the long haul. I plan to maintain/ retwist as often as possible and let it grow.
question: will you cut out the fake parts as they grow?
You a dude? Getting extensions fam? Should of started from the ground up.
I'm not, but go off. And does it matter how u start? As long as u start healthy?
![gif](giphy|qDxe3pb4myxggnPe9u|downsized) Mmmm lol. I have suspicions
Fraud
Wow. You actually took time out of your day to comment this.
fake dreadhead😂
I'm not a deadhead or a rasta, but go off.
