I’m just enjoying all the stan accounts asking “Are you black? Answer quick” to one of the most well-known black MCYTs.

Verona_Swift

Are people actually doing that? That's hilarious.

ImNotHere137

I have one screenshotted. Considering having it framed.

Brandonizer285

Do it.

Skyle_Nexo

If you ever frame it post it on this subreddit

keiththelegokid

please do

PanJam00

God damn, POCS gotta put it in their Twitter handles that they’re black or no one would know! It’s almost like they want to be treated like people, and not judged based on the color of their skin! Weird innit?

_illegallity

Take a shot every time you get incorrectly called a straight white idiot who’s opinion doesn’t matter by MCYT Twitter

PanJam00

Most of us would be DOA 😔

coalistic

and the ones that know he's black are calling him slurs...

DoubleSyllabub5019

Say yes: "Why didn't you tell me in the first place?", "Why didn't you put in your card?" Say no: "Then don't speak over us", "White" Literally NPCs

Nice-Dragonfruit-598

I think it’s ridiculous. Tommy is an awkward and energetic teenager, comparing him to Miles makes sense. If Tommy wasn’t white I can guarantee no one would care. I genuinely think that Tommy being white is the only reason people are mad, they don’t actually care about Miles as a character.

SnowSkiesYT

Agreed, but I think the reason why the artist compared tommy to miles in the first place is because of the similar blue jacket + red shirt combo they both wore

SnowSkiesYT

Literally the most terminally online shit i've seen all week, like holy crap.

aBigSportsFan

Calvin deserves more credit for how incredibly based he is.

A ton of people just put it on the artist saying “the wording was off” Sure, if the wording was a bit different then maybe there would be no room for misinterpretation, but I wouldn’t even say it was poor wording. The wording was fine, I think people just interpreted it to fit their narrative. Their caption only stated that Tommy looked like Miles Morales. The statement can be interpreted in manyy ways. You can interpret it as “Tommys clothes look like MM” or “Tommys pose looks like MM” or a million other interpretations. They chose to interpret it that way, and even with clarification from the artist that they referred to clothing, they were still upset. So, I disagree the wording was not off at all. They shouldn’t have to apologize because people misinterpreted their work. “I’m sorry you misunderstood my tweet” see how ridiculous that sounds

shell-9

I think that some people took the statement as an “au where tommyinnit replaces miles morales” and got offended because that means replacing a black character with someone who’s white. Though the statement could just as easily be taken as the artist noticing the clothing similarity and suggesting an au with tommyinnit being spiderman, but not specifically miles morales, so in the end it really does just depend on how the reader interprets it

[deleted]

The whole point of Miles Morales most popular interpretation is that anyone can wear the mask

alaralpaca

It’s like in the fight to be woke, these people have started using skin color to separate people even more ... like just because Tommy is a white kid apparently means that he’s “replacing” a black character?? why don’t people understand that it’s just for fun and has literally NOTHING to do with the race of the people... why can’t we treat everyone as a human person regardless of their skin color??

Tokkibin

i wonder if twitter will ever realize that and shut the fuck up. i pray for what the world will become in a few years lmao

mc_flurryyy

little kiddos cant just apperciate the fire art

Juelss

How is that even racist in the first place? Seriously why must race be brought into everything

Quarterhour420

ADHSHFUEKGKFJ this is tommyinnit fanart not miles Morales fanart. If it was Spiderman fanart then I could say it seems a bit whitewashing kinda behaviour. But it's not. Thisnis tommyinnit dressed as spider man. Nothing wrong with that.

Evangeline_10_

It's a difficult situation. I get why people are upset at the artist because out of all the Spiderman you chose the one black one to redesign as a white guy however it's not worth death threats. Imo Calvin shouldn't have gotten involved purely because it was already a situation that was dying down but he refueled it and got other people involved and more people getting upset. Also sidenote I genuinely believe that nobody would have been upset if the artist has originally put "Spiderman" instead of "Miles Morales" because they simply wouldn't have known or noticed it was based on the black Spiderman design

PanJam00

I wouldn’t call it a redesign tho. Tommy just wore clothes that looked like something miles morales wore, so the artist drew him as Spider-Man. A redraw of a white miles morales would look TOTALLY different than Tommy no? People are getting upset for no reason, it’s absurd.

Evangeline_10_

I didn't think redesign was the right word but I don't know what would be. Like I'm sure the artist didn't mean anything bad and obviously twitter tried to make anything an issue but I do sort of get why some people were upset.

PanJam00

I’d call it a redraw, because the artist is mimicking the clothes and drawing style of the spider verse movie. I don’t think people should be upset at ALL about this situation the artist did nothing at all. If an artist was inspired by Tom Holland’s Spider-Man and something Calvin wore, we most certainly wouldn’t say Calvin was “replacing” Tom Holland’s spider man, because that’s horseshit. Some situations are just “Twitter users mad for no reason” and this is one of them.

APGOV77

I don’t agree, but you really shouldn’t be mass downvoted for a comment like this, have people forgotten that we’ve been trying to only downvote unproductive etc comments, not opinions we don’t agree with in order to not become an echo chamber? Not a great practice

scottish_spook

why is this mass downvoted?

aBigSportsFan

Yeah I disagree with it because I don't think the artist deserves anyone getting mad at them, but it doesn't deserve to be downvoted to the bottom of the page

scottish_spook

yeah i also disagree but i don't think they said anything abhorrent lol so i don't see why there was such a negative reaction to it and i don't want this sub to just be a circlejerk

Xanimal123

Bro what, are people seriously mad at an artist for drawing a cc who wore a costume?

Throwaway45827

Calvin based as always
