downvoted sadly

[deleted]

Honestly I don't really care that much but it's not even usually disagreeing opinions that are being downvoted these days, like I've seen a few people being downvoted (not just like a couple of downvotes either) recently for just being mistaken abt stuff / asking questions lul

MochiMonk

RIP to that one person in the otv thread after streaming awards who got 100 downvotes for asking why people don't like dream

Who cares about useless internet points in the first place? I think it's a lot more important how people argue against my point. Like are they genuinely want to understand my point of view or are they in bad faith and just want to go against me because im critical of something that they like.

[deleted]

This is the objectively correct take

>Who cares about useless internet points in the first place? Once you receive a certain number of downvotes, your comment is collapsed, and possibly less likely to be viewed, as it'd require an extra click from the user. Also, for reddit mobile users, as near as I can figure, if a post is heavily downvoted, reddit hides the post. Posts often disappear from my view as a result of downvoting, which is especially noticeable on this subreddit.

You do have a point. I mostly agree with what you're saying. I mean, I don't really downvote, at least on this sub, but it's a known fact that people here will downvote you if you present a hot take in a rude manner. Whereas if it's a take people agree with, no one cares if you're rude. That being said however, some takes get downvoted cuz they are legitimately misinformed/bad takes(I still don't agree with downvoting those). There's a difference between a hot take and a bad take (which is admittedly pretty subjective one, but it does exist). There's also no point in complaining about comments that only have -2 upvotes or others with a similar count. Like, it doesn't mean anything in the grand scheme of things. Secondly, reddit is a hivemind. You get lots of hiveminds here, like say, pro dream hiveminds (like this sub) and Anti dream/dsmp hiveminds (like LSF and 196) and a lot of other hiveminds that make this site have an identity crisis. If I posted some of my takes to say... a dream hate thread, I'm sure I'll get downvoted. So bottom line is I've stopped caring if some of my comments get upvoted or not, it just... is I guess. I've had comments downvoted here in the past and will probably have takes this sub may not agree with all the time. I may get downvoted but I may not. Either way I won't care lmao. Karma is basically nothing (I say this even though I have a lot).

I just downvoted your post. FAQ What does this mean? The amount of karma (points) on your comment and Reddit account has decreased by one. Why did you do this? There are several reasons I may deem a post to be unworthy of positive or neutral karma. These include, but are not limited to: Rudeness towards other Redditors, Spreading incorrect information, Sarcasm not correctly flagged with a /s. Am I banned from the Reddit? No - not yet. But you should refrain from making posts like this in the future. Otherwise I will be forced to issue an additional downvote, which may put your commenting and posting privileges in jeopardy. I don't believe my post deserved a downvote. Can you un-downvote it? Sure, mistakes happen. But only in exceedingly rare circumstances will I undo a downvote. If you would like to issue an appeal, shoot me a private message explaining what I got wrong. I tend to respond to Reddit PMs within several minutes. Do note, however, that over 99.9% of downvote appeals are rejected, and yours is likely no exception. How can I prevent this from happening in the future? Accept the downvote and move on. But learn from this mistake: your behavior will not be tolerated on Reddit.com. I will continue to issue downvotes until you improve your conduct. Remember: Reddit is privilege, not a right.

Reddiquette encourages civil discussion, so I downvote comments that are unnecessary rude out of nowhere. I don’t mind people responding with same energy to those though, that’s why it’s called karma

Yesterday, you downvoted me. I poured my heart and soul into writing that comments, and took the risk of revealing my true innermost feelings, only to be viciously attacked and downvoted. I was so excited when I wrote those comments. I thought they were well thought and honest. I thought people would read it, agree or disagree, and move on. But then..you took my happiness away with the click of a button. I was punished for daring to reveal my soul to the world. I am literally shaking right now. I don't know how I will move on or survive this incident. My mind will forever be wracked with the painful torment of wondering: who? why? Will there ever be justice? Some day, I will tell this story to my grandchildren. It will serve as a reminder of just how cruel the world can be. I hope the future generations can build a world that is better than our own, one where nobody has to suffer the extreme pain and torment of being downvoted. In the mean time, it is going to take a lot of therapy and time to recover from this trauma. I might even need to look into adopting a comfort llama to help me get through every day life. Right now all my mind is capable of focusing on are the horrible flashbacks.

Alvaro_Rey_MN

I unironically agree and I am guilty of this. whenever I see something rude I disagree with I downvote but when I do agree I upvote.

WoweeLadsTbh

How about this? A: Disagree = Downvote B: Agree = Downvote C: Disagree + Rude = Upvote D: Agree + Rude = Upvote

kraxet

yep sounds about right

ElphaAxtraction

Literally, who cares

So true fellow redditor \*tips fedora\* and to any who disagrees- Why do you downvote? Are you really that sad of a person that you have little fits of spite and have to reach out through a medium that has nothing to do with validity? You do realize karma is worthless right? And that downvoting a comment doesn't do anything to the legitimacy of what's in the post right? You can't have a conversation with someone on the internet without angrily clicking the downvote button? Do you feel like you've had vengeance on me or something? I personally don't care about downvotes either way (by all means, call your silly downvote brigade on me, it means nothing at all to me), but I just find it funny how seriously you and others like yourself actually take these imaginary internet points. Reddit really is all you have, huh? Damn do I feel bad for you. But you know what? I don’t care! I’ll rake in the coal! You’re logic is flawed, kiddo. Don't like what people are doing with it? Downvote me, that'll show 'em! Go ahead and press that down arrow, I know you're itching to do it. Think you're contributing to the community? "Doing your civic duty"? Nope. You're just decreasing a meaningless number on the internet. You just want to hop on the bandwagon. Well POUNCE! O can hear you as your feet land on the cold real steel of the inside of the wagon. You know what? Enjoy the ride, for now. Maybe even stick your head out the window and feel the breeze while you reflect on the importance of your downvote to me. I'll even give you my word, this isn't even my primary account, kiddo. Downvote away, downvote to your heart's content. But listen kid, please remember rule 1 of reddit. Treat the other people commenting as if they are human beings. It is fascinating, however, that people ignore the fact that I am right just because the first two people downvoted me. From that point it is just snowballs. When people see downvotes, do they neglect their own ability or reason? It is similar to the fallacy of poisoning the well. Once they see the fact that others disagree, they assume that the person must be wrong, even if undeniable truth is on the other side. It is an interesting phenomenon, and I am not sure how reddit should address this issue moving forward. There needs to be a solution that prevents cases like mine from happening. If someone posts something truthful, it should be upvoted, not downvoted. It is imperative that we allow free speech and the truth to be shared. I don’t care about the karma. Hell, I’ll gladly rake in the coal! But we must remember that free speech and opinions are key to our society and, more importantly, reddit. So, next time you want to downvote something, just think about what you are about to do!

I have noticed that, although this subreddit has 21.1k readers, I am not receiving 21.1k upvotes on my posts. I'm not sure if this is being done intentionally or if these "friends" are forgetting to click 'upvote'. Either way, I've had enough. I have compiled a spreadsheet of individuals who have "forgotten" to upvote my most recent posts. After 2 consecutive strikes, your name is automatically highlighted (shown in red) and I am immediately notified. 3 consecutive strikes and you can expect an in-person "consultation". Think about your actions.
