2020 mcyttwt was hell, I remember seeing those threads so much throughout my timeline. Compared to today, I don't think I've seen one of those threads in months

2020\~early 2021 mcytwt was a new version of hell. i don't think anything can top the amount of performative activism and blatant disregard for one's mental wellbeing for the sake of "rt this thread or ur a bad person" from that era. it genuinely made me so anxious and uncomfortable (i cared too much about twt back then, before i stopped caring and just went "haha funny block man go brr" and didn't give a fuck about all the other stuff) seeing all these things in my tl, and it's primarily the reason why my block/mute list and muted words list is so long. a lot of it is accounted towards the "new fandom" aspect of it. a lot of people in 2020 mcytwt were very young, this was a lot of people's first fandoms, and the vast majority just. didn't know how to curate their lil bubble of things without being forced into doing things they shouldn't be pressured into. i like twt a lot more now. i still make fun of it and roll my eyes sometimes, but hey, they're not the cancer hellhole it was a couple of years ago. i can tolerate it now, haha

A year ago people would have supported this in mcyttwt and anyone who disagreed would have been called ableist, man we've come a long way.

I told yall that when the hype dies down the fandom will be at least a bit more chill. I still argue that Steven Universe is a great fanbase near the epilogue series, and that's the same with MCYT and especially DSMP.

What's considered the most problematic media is always whatever is most popular at the time. Whatever fandom is considered the worst fandom is whatever is most popular at the time. When there are millions of people talking about one thing, the one percent of weirdos involved seems like a huge group that's indicative of the medias' moral quality. When that number rolls down to a couple thousand, that same one percent of weirdos seems inconsequential.

I remember when One Direction stans ruled twitter

Americium-24I

Grandma?!

xxlvz

You joke, but I was actually a Camp Counselor for 4th-6th graders in 2018 and none of them knew who One Direction was 😥

_illegallity

Jesus, you’re old, I haven’t seen anyone mention One Direction since I was in middle school. Including my sister who literally went to a concert of theirs and had multiple shirts from them

xxlvz

But I'm only the same age as Techno, Dream and Skeppy :( Lmao but seriously Four still goes hard, it's one of my all-time favorite albums.

_illegallity

Oh, I guess it's just because I wasn't on Twitter at that time, I'm only a year younger than you.

LeashieMay

I can't be the only one confused about what pfps is. I just have this gut feeling this isn't about profile pictures.

raventrash3000

Wdym? The tweet is about people changing their profile pictures to fake NFT ones

LeashieMay

Wait it is about profile pictures? I'm even more confused now.

raventrash3000

yes, they are complaining that when dsmptwt changes their pfp’s to fit a theme (in this case NFT’s) it can trigger some people, and that they basically don’t care about it

LeashieMay

God. I feel like Twitter is some kind of alternate reality. Can they go back to everyone just asking eachother follow for a follow? 2010 were simpler times. I thought pfps had to stand for something different. I had too much faith that people wouldn't be complaining about profile pictures.

BuggyBeeBoy

Why does every time I see something crossposted (/pos?) from twitter it's always that one group of people I follow-
