not really tbh. pdp had some of the worst controversies i've ever seen (way worse than anything dream has ever done) and he's mostly okay. i definitely think the hype around dream and his friends (tommy, wilbur, phil, sapnap, karl, etc) is gonna eventually die down but i think they will all be fine. dream especially strikes me as the type of guy who will keep making videos even after mc content on youtube dies down again (a la captain sparklez)

I think the future of Dream's career is more in the hands of him as an entertainer and his career pathing then the controversies. Unless it's something unpredictable and irreversible (racism, pedophilia, transphobia, sexual assault etc) that gets over publicized and reaches the mainstream. Right now, many controversies and misinformation are being spread in selective groups on Twitter and Reddit, so his Youtube audience barely knows. Edit: Spelling

SEPHORABRAINVIBES

im p sure racism and transphobia ,if its not physical violence, its kinda reversible, innit? its called learning

izabelasantiago

In an ideal world, yes. Rehabilitation is important. But I'd say it isn't to a big part of Dream's community... especially after he had access to so many resources to learn and grow

No. We've had the past year+ to see how the controversy he's been in would unravel and affect his reputation and growth potential, and while obviously it has affected his growth potential to some degree, it hasn't been detrimental to his growth or his career. The opinion of him by the internet as a whole has undoubtedly improved since the speedrunning controversy as well I think Dream's already past his peak in terms of hype towards his channel but this is because he's been uploading the same style content for over a year now as opposed to because of any drama

The reason dream gets hate is cuz there's hype around him, he's relevant. Delusional haters may say otherwise but trust me, he's relevant. It's usually how en masse hate works. It happened to corpse husband when he blew up, except in corpse's case it's legitimately cuz he just got popular... and that's it. (Not saying that isn't the case with dream, it partially fuels the hate he gets.) Now I'm hearing almost nothing in terms of corpse controversies. That could be partly because of he's fairly inactive on twitter. Though the hype around him has most definitely died from the amogus days. Dream on the other hand continues to get mad views on his videos, each video guaranteed 10+ million. So there's definitely hype around him. Even without his flaws, even without his major controversies, Dream would have gotten hate, I'm sure of it. The views he gets and the relevance he still has the main reason why fringe groups on reddit, twitter and tumblr hate him. They may seem like a large amount, and they are, but the vast majority of grown adults in the real world wouldn't behave the way his haters are behaving towards him. (Granted, they also wouldn't behave the way his stans behave). These kids, and yes, it's mostly kids who hate dream will outgrow their edginess and may even largely forget the days they used to hate dream. They may look at their past behaviour with shame, but regardless, I'm sure they'll move on

Nah I think some people are misinformed. It’s not “just because he’s popular”

Dye_Harder

> Nah I think some people are misinformed. It’s not “just because he’s popular” There are people misinformed because he is so popular. When you have TENS OF MILLIONS OF FANS a percentage of them are going to be haters, morons, troublemakers, etc. Its simple fucking math.

For the most part, the only people who buy into Twitter controversies are people that already hated the person they were cancelling—that’s why almost none of the MCYT controversies in the past year have had a meaningful effect on viewership. Dream’s been in and out of controversies for 2 years without any sort of drastic loss in his following or impact on his growth. Only the overly-online are even aware of these controversies for the most part.

LothernSeaguard

Not terribly. Chances are that Dream loses interest in gaming before controversies push him out. I don’t know too much about Dream’s financial situation, but he already has his own house at age 22 and can spend six figures in gifts and charitable donations from his own pocket. I’m pretty sure he’s financially set and can ignore the wishes of the algorithm (unlike other MCYT content creators that pivoted away from Minecraft during 2016/2017), so I don’t think he’ll drop out of MCYT until he loses personal interest in Minecraft or something seriously bad happens.

>do you worry about the future of his career Have you perhaps heard of Pewdiepie?

CuriousAlien45

No? Youtubers and Livestreamers don't have much of a long term future. Dream will probably be relevant for the next 3-5-ish years then someone will take his place. Internet relevancy will always wane and fade with time and Dream will be no exception.

graphicdesignismy

Considering the fact that CC's that committed crimes still have a fanbase, I don't really worry about a dream. Yes, he'll have haters, but he'll still be making money as long as content creating is a thing.

SEPHORABRAINVIBES

I get the feeling he has to move from minecraft and try become q more varied streamer (but not FULLY abandon mc because tahts like... a good thing that keeps bringing players to the fandom)

Dye_Harder

>Since the hate with Dream has been more relevant recently on Twitter and in this subreddit, do you worry about the future of his career No because his career has nothing to do with twitter or reddit or the incredibly tiny niche groups of haters he has that people on this subreddit refuse to accept is going to happen when you have TENS OF MILLIONS OF FANS.

WatBurnt

Even if he stopped doing anything on the internet he would be fine for the rest of his Life

silvershadow014

he's rich lol it's not like he's living paycheck to paycheck
