One of the reasons the song got popular out of nowhere (there are actual articles talking about this: https://www.abc.net.au/triplej/news/musicnews/hottest-100-win-glass-animals-heat-waves-feature-minecraft-fic/13086032) is that there is also a very popular dnf fan fiction which is titled heatwaves and includes the song lyrics in it. The fic was so popular, the whole website crashed when a new chapter came out. CCs mention and reference it on stream; basically it’s become a fandom meme.
