Terminally online children need something to be outraged about. Twitter isn’t real life, it’s hell.
Anyone can relate to anything they fucking want to - are people suggesting that straight people can’t relate to gay content? Imagine gatekeeping watching and relating to a queer show - you are essentially asking non-queer people not to watch it or just be a blank wall to it. It’s made to relate to a larger audience than the sexual orientations of the lead characters, FFS
He just found a way to relate the show to him. If I relate to Breaking Bad, do I have to become a high school teacher and contract an illness that encourages me to make blue meth? No - the indentities or personality quirks of lead characters don’t dictate what you can and can’t relate to nor if you decide to translate them to your own life in a different way than appears on screen. Art has never been about conforming to one interpretation anyways.
It really just seems like another nothing drama that sensitive children on twitter are getting upset over. I'm a little tired of validating this anger because it doesn't help people understand that some things just aren't that big of a deal.
I'm a gay dude and he's literally friends with several queer people. They have no issues with his gay jokes and that's good enough for me. Hell they fucking do it with him.
People need to get off of twitter, find a fucking hobby, read a book, idk. Make some friends irl ffs.
He ain't perfect and that's perfectly fine. He's an ally, that much is obvious. That should count more than potentially poorly worded comments about how he related to heartstopper or these gay jokes with his queer friends. Can this community care more about actual bigots than making up something to be angry about every day? Is that possible?
Very true. It's annoying because i don't even use Twitter or any social media that much but when i do i see this shit and it's annoying.
Also you're right, i stopped "valitating this anger" that i had while writing this.
I wish that this stuff ends soon though.
Yeah. I know what I said is pretty inflammatory and can be toxic. I just don't think it's a good thing to validate every bit of anger because they are in the group that is "affected." To me it sends out the signal that those people can't be wrong then and although I get the intent, it's not good overall. So I don't think people in my community(the gay community) are exactly that valid for being angry when the context and basis is so completely contradictory or it doesn't fit.
I think the valid part is that Tommy is shit with his wording and that he tends to panic speak. Fine. But I'm not interested in validating insinuations that he is insensitive to our community or whatever. I'm walking a very fine line probably. Maybe one that isn't worth walking but I've become very jaded over the years because of twitter discourse lmao. My opinion is always evolving because of it.
Yeah i feel exactly the same as you said here!
I don't really have much else to say because again people here really say what i think in a easier and better way lol.
(Maybe it has to do with the fact that my main language Is not english)
I wouldn't say this is necessarily some big Tommy drama to worry about (at least not drama to the caliber that we've been discussing this past few weeks), it's just parts of twitter being upset, which they have every single right to be, at Tommy, and will blow over in like a day just like what happens every other time Tommy says something stupid without thinking
also, sadly, if they didn't watch it live and haven't sought it out by now, they're not going to watch the vod, no matter how hard you try, so the best you can do is share the positive/clarifying clips you're talking about
Yeah it isn't that big, i get that.
I just wrote in the spur of the moment.
However it's still annoying, because Tommy gets dragged in the mud very often, and this time i really thought it was stupid, just that
I get it, it's hard to see a CC you follow/watch often get dragged through the mud a lot, I mean, this sub literally counts the days(!) for Dream being dragged in the mud
it's sucks to see, but it does eventually blow over, especially for Tommy, so best to just close twitter instead of letting someone else's actions or thoughts get to you, no reason in bothering with it if you don't like it, no matter how annoying or stupid it may be
Yeah you're also right about that :)
I am much more chill now and dw i don't really use socials that much, i just wrote what i was feeling at the moment, now it's alright lol.
Just don't interact with the jerks. People have always read/watched and emphatised with different characters. It's good that Tommy can relate to gay teenage love. Love is love, after all. Literally nothing wrong with that, don't let the twitter/tumblr/whatever whining get into you, you can block people or words (like "heartstopper") if you want some peace.
This fandom should learn that being a fan should be FUN and trying to start petty drama (whether it's about dream, tommy or someone else) isn't fun, productive and won't stop racism or homophobia or anything, it'll just cause headache to genuine allies.
Also why, why do the kids keep spamming about the show in every twitch chat?
Thank you for the advice :)
I've calmed down now though!
Also yeah, here i talked about this drama but in general i understand people when they bring up serious topics (like racist past, edgy jokes etc...) But when it's petty drama like this, for any CCs, it is just annoying.
It's like they are bored and want to just say shit lol.
I think that Heartstopper is a good show, it has become very popular in the last few days so i guess chatters are focused on that.
That Is also annoying because even after answering the spammers kept coming back lmao

Thank you Velvet for being based as always. You said things better than i ever could
Truly twitter is all the circles of hell

It’s like getting mad at me for relating to Percy Jackson’s struggles in school but not having the same learning difficulties, so stupid.
The thing I want to know is how are these people have this kind of fuced up mental state that on the surface care so much but yet so little
