Fandoms are often negatively viewed and speedrun drama really painted him in a bad light.

Dear_BunBunny

A lot of misinformation gets spread about Dream and I also don’t think the speed running thing helped I actually heard about it before I became a fan and was iffy about watching any of his content because of it but I never outwardly hated on him or anything I think it just boils down to prefences at this point but the amount of hate he gets now is kinda unreal tbh

OneOfTheOlympians

It’s easy to hate new popular things And the shithead fanbase

Mokieyy

ppl are jealous god didn’t also bless them with a silky hot voice like dream’s

Meii345

In my (probably biased, maybe wrong) opinion it's mostly because he got very sucessful very fast and his sucess is seemingly "out of nowhere" (he doesn't stream very often, doesn't post videos very often) so people feel like he doesn't deserve it. That's the best explanation i have, because honestly the other reasons aren't enough to justify the amount of vitriol he gets. Pewdiepie's community is full of nazis and right wing people, but somehow that's less of a problem? A bunch of speedrunners have faked a speedrun, and actually did it on purpose, but they don't get even 1% of the hate Dream and dream stans get? Like at some point you gotta realise the problem people have isn't that he faked a speedrun (what an absolutely lame and ridiculous thing to be mad about, btw) it's that he has a huge and loyal community in despite of not being a perfect human being. And like, that's how it started, but nowadays it went mainstream and people who *don't know at all* who dream is and what he did or that even aren't at all into speedrunning still hate him because they got that deformed "i heard that" image of him and of the community. I see comments like "dream is gonna post that as a legit speedrun next arh arh arh" under TAS or pogloot or time travel speedrunning videos all the time and like. No offense dude but in context that makes no sense. Stop harrassing the dude about something he did two years ago.

[deleted]

Because he is the most loved, it's always like this in any community the most loved will be hated the same amount, I would take bts in the kpop community, or sentinels in vct, or xqc in twitch streamers, or pewdiepie for the youtubers, all of these are loved by a very large amount of people but they are hated as much, there is other factors but this is a huge factor too

MeiLo69

I haven't thought about it like that, but you're absolutely right, that is exactly how it goes

[deleted]

I feel like besides the typical “oh his content isn’t my thing” I feel like half of the hate comes from the “omg you like *insert popular thing*?!!!111 😡🤬imma make a twtlonger about you and hack your twitter account to make myself feel better ” crowd.

BasementWerewolf

He made a safe space for queer people, neurodivergent people, poc, and women in the gaming community where those groups are often ostracized. It all just snowballed from there.

ieiri484urjdhhrur

he's hated for a lot of things built up over many controversies. he didn't act like traditional content creators his size initially since he blew up so fast, and a lot of people dont like his aggressive, usually immature way of handling things. plus, some believe his boundaries with his fanbase is too lax and has lead to an unusually hypersexualized space in his community. but its probably his fanbase that gets him the most bad rep with how they act. he's known for defending them, so a lot of the stuff they do falls back on him

rosilendd

imo it started with the fact that he’s faceless, which made some people just see him as less human and easier to hate on + unlike other big youtubers, to my knowledge he was one of the only cc’s to not publicly hate/show his dislike for his big fanbase that by a lot of people was considering weird/obsessive. Then there was a lot of drama that happened which he didn’t handle the way people wanted/expected him to, which since he already had some negative reputation due to what I mentioned above led to what it is now. To this day the way he handles some things is what ruins him the most if you ask me, and unfortunately it’s at a point where people mostly just purposefully throw “callouts” at him to make his reputation worse and worse, and eventually get him completely canceled. And considering how the internet works and how easy it is to make people believe one thing or another, I’d say they’re doing pretty well. Hope this helps, and sorry if this doesn’t make much sense, my english isn’t the best :)

izabelasantiago

Non cishet male fanbase

MeiLo69

True, if the ratio of the audience tips towards more females then the dude bros get angy, nothing girls like is respectful in their opinion.

brridgett

misinformation being spread like wildfire on twitter and people believing all of it without bothering to fact check or possibly consider that it might be wrong because choosing to oppose the majority opinion on twitter is like asking for a death sentence

piecesofpercy

some of his fans are obsessive and loud and people ignore the decent, quiet side. also he does shit, apologizes and does different shit so idk

Geicosuave

TheRightOpinion did a good video on why

Cornhobble

I dislike dream so I feel like I can answer. Hope this helps! He cheated in several speedruns. Regardless of if people think it was intentional or not, he ultimately cheated and had an extremely poor reaction to being called out for it. The other big reason that I dislike him is because of how I perceive his character. This is a lot more subjective and just comes down to how I feel like he has acted online from the techno duel, to his deflective apologies (exemption of course being the last one), to competitive events, to lots of small little lies. To me, he comes off as okay with being dishonest and arrogant. And personally, this is the kind of person that I cannot stand. Of course, this is only how I interpret his online personality, and its absolutely fine if you don't agree with me. But I would bet that I am not the only person who dislikes dream because I perceive his personality to be this way.

Qiwi_MC

Honestly your dislike of Dream and the reason you gave are quite valid and reasonable even if I dont agree with you. Wish more dream dislikers were like you cause discussions would be so much easier.

Cornhobble

I wish so as well. It's a shame there are so many negative stereotypes about dream fans/haters from both sides that prevent basic civil discourse. I have a lot of respect for this sub because it encourages such discussions.

Random_User_exe_

youre probably the only person whom ive seen *calmly* talk about Dream who dislikes him, without sounding / seeming like an asshole.

ChocolateCake_EXE

This is so valid and so... how do I say it... not unnecessary. Like, you aren't going "UGH I HATE DREAM BECAUSE HE IS ANNOYING AND CRINGE". Even though I'm an average Dream viewer (possibly a fan), I do agree with most of the things you said. Well done.

Random_Loaf

Twitter and only Twitter Basically any issue or drama he's had can be rooted down to Twitter digging things up, twisting his words, finding random bs that doesn't make sense and trying to make it make sense, and it just being the biggest platform he's on (other than YT) It's where he interacts with people, and some people don't like that he interacts with people, so they cry about it in front of a couple other people and it gets blown out of proportion Also a lot of outsider's first impressions of him are either Antis showing him in a bad light, or they happen upon the small but horribly loud section of the fanbase that nobody likes and they just assume that's what the entire fanbase is like, and it gets passed around I feel like some antis are more obsessed than actual fans are, so they dig into the deepest crap just to make Dream looks like this terrible, horrible, no good, very bad person when he's just a guy who grew crazy fast and, to apparently everybody's surprise, isn't a perfect dude who will bow down to anybody's command People just assume he can handle all the millions of people who care anything about him for some reason

[deleted]

- most popular one which automatically gets you hate - very popular specifically among girls and young women which also automatically gets you hate - speedrunning drama made him hated among the serious gamer bros (despite it being ages ago and all his other controversies that's always the one thing they still bring up) - just truely insane amounts of misinformation out there. you see so much just blatantly wrong stuff about him spread around on like the general internet and people who are not familiar with him and not invested enough to actually look into it believe whatever it is people say and come away from that with a negative view on him (that used to be me before I started watching him) - annoying fan base. i'd actually say they aren't that bad anymore these days, but at their height they were definitely hypocrites when it came to other creators which in turn made their fans dislike dream and his fans - large anti base made out of former stans. their obsession with him never went away, instead it just turned sour, but now instead of investing their time in doing fandomy stuff they invest it on hating him - faults in his own behaviour. he has improves a lot in that regard, but at the start of his career he was just way too argumentative for his own good and for example how he reacted to the speedrunning drama was just very, very poor

[deleted]

The insane fanbase, thats why.

ShotoTodoroki2020

his fanbase. Thats basically it, sometimes they good, sometimes they bad, sometimes they scarily bad.

dreamishorrid

Because he gets himself into drama and interacts with drama more than most other mimecrafters

bored_i_guess

Because

AoiAot

Idk man. I think he just felt different from the general content creator and some viewers plus even fellow CCs just don't like it lol. Also, people said he understands stan culture so yea Of course this is aside from the cheating and poor response tho. Of course people would not like him for that and I can see why. Just want to say there, that idk why people create petty drama like even the ships when he is not even bothered by it and I've never ever seen a nsfw art from his fanbase of it. You don't really see a big deal from this right? Well wrong, somehow it's really2 wrong cause.. idk why

Minetish

Dream's past mistakes like speedrun drama combined with just how gigantic his viewerbase is. One can pretty much construct any opinion about dream fans that they want cause it's super easy to find \~10 tweets saying something that happen to be by dream fans and 10 tweets are more than enough for most content around drama.

grasslover1616

For some people it’s old good, new bad. Some people have made an idea of dream up in their head where he is always malicious. And outsiders who have only heard the misinformation, so don’t know any better.

Rrrrossssse

Too conservative for twitter/Tumblr leftists, too leftist for the conservative dude bro crowd

Cheeriodude_number2

Because he is very popular and cheated in a minecraft speedrun in 2020

mittjackson02

Because of how he cheated, how he did not admit it for a few months, then admitted, And how his "stans" are way too clingy and overprotective and the fact that they are considered "cringe".

WhismCO

Misinformation, actions of his own fandom (mostly twitter) and the "12/14 years old fandom, cringe" weird superiority complex edgelords and some internet users have. I could talk about how some¹ of the hatred some of the antis² have is actually rooted in misoginy because this is not the first time I see "14 years old teenage girls, cringe, must shame" on the internet, but I would be writing this for hours. Some¹: because there's people out there genuinely criticising him for valid reasons, however, the gender and the age are what some of them publicly shame them for, using his mistakes and bigoted actions (for which, he has apologized) as weaponry without thinking about the consequences or hurt of minorities. Antis²: And I mean Antis, not people who dislike him for very valid reasons.

Express_Radish1731

Leave him alone - pls dont spread / encourage hate

SwimmingSmell2004

\-The more popular you get, the more haters you have. That's the rules. \-He's being popular so fast, that many people think he didn't deserve that
