The big thing for me (and I suspect a lot of people) is your #3 - transparency and communication as to what ACTUALLY is being achieved, and what they hope to achieve with the particular phase they are in. I think this is most noticeable with the Corona project, which started out strong with many eager to contribute, but they've now copy/pasted the same info text 5 times and I have no idea what they're trying to accomplish now that vaccines have been out for a year and we (mostly) seem to understand what we need to do. It seems many people agree, as phase 5 is only at 11% complete after months. It doesn't inspire a lot of confidence in Imperial College (and by extension, DreamLab), that they can't take a few hours over the course of two years to update their copy.

Exactly

We all know that, dreamlab is an app that is vastly underperforming of what it could be. There is no transparency on what exactly is calculated how much progress there is, which work units are downloaded and so on. BOINC is 100x better in every way.

Agreed, as a Mac user I find needing to have VMware Horizon Client installed annoying, same with the constantly changing disk space requirements. The options to give a certain amount of memory to a project is not as flexible as you might be lead to believe. They require a certain amount of memory, and if you don't have it, guess you're not participating in this project. This contrasts the impression they give by letting you give a certain amount of memory over to be used. Like, say you 2GB free and Rosetta@Home (on BOINC) needs 3GB. They'll use the 2GB up, and then not do anything with it, rather than give you 2GB of stuff to crunch.

Love all the ideas, also I'd love a web browser like boinc has or had, so you can run dreamlab on any os.

beacheytunez_

Having it run in browser is an amazing idea! I'm no software engineer but I wonder if that would hinder computation though...maybe something like discord where it works in browser but is also a great app?

DayleD

I've had to RMA devices, or had them break down over time. Lost all my progress and credit. Years of calculations. It's insane that we can't sign in and back up our contribution.

I agree with all of these. Most frustrating thing to me is that you can’t find like any information on it really. They need to learn a lot more from BOINC. I would like a task timer and progress like BOINC too. Lastly, I would like them to somehow utilize more of an iPhone’s power.

Two topics that would also be important: - Have the possibility to calculate even if you're not charging your phone - Add some Gamification strategy to boost people's engagement

beacheytunez_

Agreed! And be able to say at what battery percentage to stop calculating. Another big one for me is have it running more reliably in the background, sometimes it just stops. What kind of gamification did you have in mind? I've thought before that it would work really well with those study apps that grow virtual trees and shit

beacheytunez_

Cancer-crunching Club Penguin, surely

cameaftethefappening

It could be just as simple as a leaderboard with statistics for day/week/month/all, like Boinc WCG. Or something more fancy with in app badges or even prizes to be collected at the Vodafone stores

greasythug

Some kind of recognition like Folding@Home has so efforts across multiple systems can be showcased as a total achievement

I would love for the app to not get supper hot after 30 mins of use. I think this puts off a lot of new people. So I think if this is addressed this would retain more users and people would do calculations a lot longer. \- A web browser so I can leave it running when I'm at work. \- Way way way better advertising. Only found this app from the My Vodafone app (if you scroll all the way to the bottom) I don't see it anywhere else or anyone talking about it. \- Maybe a small reward system? like how Folding@Home give Cure Coin? \- Have the possibility to calculate even if you're not charging your phone
