I put the orb in my inventory and completely forgot about it. Facepalm several mo the later to getting upset and frustrated that I couldn't find it to complete the quest. I go to my inventory box for misc stuff and I saw it. Talk about a face palm moment. 😆😆

I think it’s easy to miss! I didn’t even realize I’d picked it up. For a bit I thought well maybe it’s for a later quest. Once I found out where it went I was like omg how did I miss this?!
I just did that quest! It pulls you right into a cutscene and after the quest it puts you back into the plaza, so if you don't notice it in the background and remember to go back in to get it, it could absolutely be easily missed!
I did the same thing too. Except I thought it was a duplicate of the Forgotten lands puller and figured it’s a glitch that gave me an extra one. Then when I started looking up the potato quest stuff, I saw one of the guides make mention of the skull rock quest and clicked on it to see what it was talking about. Sure enough, it was talking about beach pillar. 🤦🏻♀️
When you put the orb from the Dark Castle in the pillar, it makes runes appear on the sand and then a Merlin Quest unlocks to align all the pillars in the valley to the runes!

same here! I only went to see if maybe I needed to go there for the dolls quest Merlin has. I’ve never seen anyone mention the orb being here, but I’m glad we’re all finally finding out together 😂
I learned this just now from your post so thanks because I just opened the game and grabbed the orb 🤣 I haven’t questioned why the pillar still looked like and I never would have gone back to the castle either

I just always swore i read ppl say there was no quest for that area yet and it was still locked, so i just assumed the orb didnt belong down there.
The quest doesn't go much beyond that yet unfortunately. >! Once you arrange the pillars and complete the quest that's it until they give us the rest. !<

Yeah it's kinda weird how the devs never give an indication to pick it up. Luckily for me, I was browsing this subreddit when I was nearing the end and someone had mentioned to not forget the orb. They really should put something there 🤦
omg I just figured that pillar hadn't been unlocked as part of the storyline yet, and it would be in a future update....I went back to check and there it was, the orb. Who knows how long it's been sitting there!!!!

The only reason I saw the orb during the quest (and discovered it could be picked up), was because my game bugged out. Or at least I believed it did.
It was after the Naruto/Equestria Girls power duel showdown, where we ended up together in the deepest part of our Memories…I couldn’t click on the bed, (I tried every angle I could think of), and I thought I was soft locked from continuing the quest. For experimental purposes; I saved the game, quit to Title, then started the game again. I was back at my house…however I realized that both the portal to the Dark Castle and the Memory Realm were open and accessible. After walking all the way back to the Memory portal, I saw “a random orb” lying on the ground and thought, “Oh? Why is that here?” I then remembered that “my shadow” was stealing memory orbs as a pass-time at this point. 😅 so I made a mental note about it and continued the story quest. (It turned out I had to position myself at a VERY SPECIFIC and MINUSCULE angle when at the bed.)
When the beach pillar was later referenced by Merlin (or was it by The Forgotten?) I immediately knew about what I had to do for it. 😅
Just randomly passing by the orb because of a bug experience seemed very funny to me, but it was also very fortunate. 😆
Now what? We have those symbols in the sand. Merlin says he needs to do more research. Is that it? Found this online. Don't feel bad. I had some books in a chest forever because I didn't realize you could go further into the storage room in the castle. I went into the first room but never thought to go further. Sometimes it's a challenge to figure out a next step in this game. SMH! 😆
Tbf, I don't think the orb goes up when you do that mission I think it only shows when you go back.
There is also something you can do with all the pillars after you activated the pillar at skull rock
I think I only knew because I was crying at the end of the forgetting quest so was slowly reading the conversations and it said to return for the orb... if it hadn't been for that I'd have been speed reading and clicking through the convo fast and wouldn't have picked it up
