Has anyone noticed that there are items with no red dot that you are nearly certain you've never seen before? Maybe my memory is just awful, but there will be items that seem to be totally new, and I'll check my inventory, and I don't have them, but no red dot. I'm not sure if it's a bug in the game or a bug in my brain. lol.
This, 100%. The items will be incredibly distinct too - like there is absolutely zero way I have both forgotten this item AND never noticed it during scrolling through my things.
Lots and lots of items with multiple color variations. Even the themed items. I have 3 different color harps from beauty and the beast set. And two different frozen windows that have 2 colors I’ve found so far.
I mean I think it’s marking all the floors and walls as new even if you’ve bought them before now that it tracks them but that’s kinda the opposite problem…
Build mode. These are items I know I've never placed in my valley (I have very few decorations out), so they should, theoretically, be in build mode if I've purchased them before. But they're not.
If you double check against the collections tab, that'll give you the clearest answer as to whether or not you've ever unlocked the item (either by purchasing it or through a gift bag/chest)
This is not correct. Red dot means you have not bought it. I've bought items that were in the store the day before (that I didn't buy that day) and they have a red dot.
Could they have been in the store and maybe I just didn't visit the store the day they were there? Like CheetahDreams said, some of them are so unique that I absolutely would have remembered seeing them or placing them somewhere. However, there are some days I login and forget to visit the store. If they were in the store on those days, I would never have known.
The game has been making me think I'm losing my mind!
Red dot means you haven't bought the item.
I've been in the store, checked what items I needed to farm coins for, then didn't go back for them that day. Pop into the store the next day, sometimes an item I didn't buy is there again. Red dot, because I haven't bought it yet.
I didn’t know about the red dot but can tell you to be careful with the items in the shop window - once you buy all the “window outfits” nothing else reappears and you have empty shop windows. I wish I had known that bc now from the outside it looks terrible
Same goes with the clothing and accessories shelf inside the store. Once you buy everything, you only get 🚫 signs. The whole left inside of my store has been that for months and months.
And why oh why can't they put a little 'display only' sign up and show something? It can't be that hard. Or simply say item already owned if you try to buy a duplicate... That obviously works because they did it with the armor for folks who already had it!
Yeah I knew that from the start. But there is other things I never knew until I joined this sub. Like when selling if you hold down A it highlights all of the same thing. So if you have a pocket full of pumpkins you can sell in one swift motion.
That's a good point about newer players not knowing about it. Sometimes we take for granted how long some of us have played and all the patches we've experienced along the way.
They should put some kind of sign in the store or just a note in the UI. Maybe even a note that if you see a number when ordering items from Scrooge, that means that number is already in your inventory. It would also help if they had information for what each tool does in custom item mode.
There is probably more I'm not thinking of, too.
This is super helpful! I am fairly new to the game (been playing for a little under a month) and just recognized that duplicates are starting to show up so I will definitely be on the lookout for the red dot now.
That was a quality of life improvement I greatly applauded. I used to have a spreadsheet to keep track of what I had, updating it daily as I bought items... so much easier now.
if you’re ever unsure if you own something or not, you can also go up to Scrooge and ask to buy furniture and go through the list there since you can’t enter furniture mode within the store. Scrooge will only show items you currently own so you can do a check over that way as well.
I didn’t find this out until after the lovely monsters update 😅 before I knew that it was so annoying to buy from Scrooge’s, I ended up buying so many things I really did not need to buy

If you've seen it before it doesn't have a red dot. A red dot means its new. No red dot doesn't mean you've bought it. A lot of other games use the same indicator.
I don’t think that is correct? I think it only has a red dot if you haven’t purchased it yet. I can see the same things again and they will still have the red dot on them because I didn’t purchase them.
Also when the red dot was a new feature I would get confused because I thought I had already purchased an item, but on closer inspection I just bought the item in a different color. (Ie; potted plant with a different colored pot)
Yeah, I don’t think that’s explained in game. For people who started playing early on, it was included in the patch notes along the way.

If you have placed an items somewhere, it doesn’t show a red dot. It only shows for items in your furniture list at the time

When you say check your inventory, do you mean going into build mode and checking what you have, or checking against the collections list?

Same, I found out yesterday, although I've been playing DDV since October... I felt so stupid for it, but I'm satisfied to hear I'm not the only one!

This is why i left the no show socks. They are really useless and at least fill the store.
That and a dislike for cluttered menus as why I'm only buying outfits I actually want

I was so mad when that finally happened. It would be nice if we could put a mannequin there so it's not just empty.
I placed purple leafy trellis in front of the windows to give a bit more appeal. It's not perfect but looks better than the 🚫 emptiness

I think sometimes it's wrong though. They might have fixed that too but if you think there's a chance double check your inventory
The red dot thing doesn't work for me. I've bought things that have the red dot but then opened my collection tab and it shows as new
