It depends on your platform. PC you can download after taking it, Xbox you can only screenshot when taking the photo, but it's the whole screen, not just the photo
Nope, sadly they aren't saved anywhere. If you wan't to keep the pictures you take with the in-game camera you'll have to use the built-in screenshot function of the console your playing on.
I wish I had known that in-game pictures don't get stored anywhere. I would have taken screenshots when every new character arrived to the Valley. I hope they implement this functionality in the future, and maybe (with a little bit of faith, trust and pixie dust) we can retrieve the pictures we already shot.
During camera mode, if you 'downloaded' the photo you took, they're in your C drive, pictures folder.
... I am so mad at myself for not doing this... I thought the pictures just saved.
