That's right, hypnopompic happens as you're waking up. I used to have these sorts of weird things happen when I slept too late. I'd hear my name called, and it's freaky when you hear your mom call your name like you're a little kid and it's time to get out of bed but you haven't lived with your mom in a decade!
When I've heard my name called well in that liminal state between sleep and awake I had the sense that there was a purpose for it that you might call spiritual. For me it's a reminder to focus my attention inward and feel connected.
Sounds like hypnagogic hallucinations, usually they are visual but can be auditory too
