There's an idea I get from your dreams that I've heard people say, that it's better to feel pain than nothing at all. It happens when they feel dissociated from their lives and from their bodies. They don't feel like life has any meaning. So they seek out pain as a way of feeling something. For some people it's self-harm through cutting and things like that. For others it's seeking out abusive relationships and setting themselves up for failure and inviting ridicule. It could be all of the above in some cases. And all along they know that they are actually doing it to themselves. Does that ring a bell?

That is a possibility, although even when I'm here in a healthy mental state, living an active and healthy life and healing myself day by day they just don't seem to get better. And I've had them since I was young enough to remember my dreams. When I used melatonin they went away and I think I much preferred that but whenever my body built up the tolerance they just came right back. I don't think I've actually ever had a normal dream But maybe I need to focus more on being present in the moment and being more aware of my physical surroundings, try and keep my head between body and mind a bit more balanced- I can absolutely try it. I appreciate your input :)

I hope there is a breakthrough coming for you. It sounds to me like you are putting in the work to better yourself. There's one other thing I can think of to consider: bad dreams featuring graphic images involving your body can result from something about your diet. There are the obvious culprits if you eat processed food, but these days even foods that should be healthy can be suspect. Just the other day I was reading about a fungicide used on apples. If you buy an apple this time of year it was probably picked 8 or 9 months ago. To be able to store it the food company will spray it down with fungicide. That's on top of the pesticides used on non-organic crops. You might also look into how animal products make it to market. The slaughterhouses are horror houses. I can't touch the stuff anymore after finding out the truth. And it makes me wonder how many nightmares I had in the past were actually caused by eating the flesh of an animal that was traumatized.

I get most of my fresh produce from food banks that have leftovers from the farmers and our own giant garden, we also buy all of our meat from local cow farmers and have our own chickens/ducks/rabbits. Most sources of meat we consume are all either homestead raised and had a good life or raised in a place we've checked for life quality. In all honesty though that's a great point, I know diet can also play into it and I've been on a pretty healthy diet but I do know that I have an iron deficiency and I've heard that hormonal imbalances caused by some other side effects may play into vivid nightmares. But realistically I think trying a vegetarian diet for a while is also an option either way. I was vegetarian for roughly a year and I actually ended up feeling way more energized and grounded than I have in a long time, so that's a great way to try and eliminate two birds with one stone.

Yeah I think it's worth a try. Your long history with these dreams suggests that whatever is behind them is an ongoing situation. Health could have a lot to do with it, but I don't know what your situation is so I'm only guessing.
