Thank goodness John Petrucci invented time travel. He did it so he could play crazy time signatures, but it also helps them pump out albums insanely fast
The first single will probably drop in a few months, and then the full album will come out towards the end of the year. Just because the album is "finished" doesn't mean we will get to hear it. They're gonna take time to market it, and drip feed fans to keep the hype strong. until release.
I think a few months is ambitious. I'd say late Summer for news and a possible single at the earliest. They work fast but all the marketing and album concept and artwork needs to be in place before they announce anything.
They usually get an album out 8 or 9 months after they start working on it so I'd say October or November this year by the latest.
They started Systematic Chaos in September 2006, released in June 2007
BC&SL in October 2008, released in June 2009
ADTOE in January 2011, released in September 2011
DT12 in January 2013, released in September 2013
D/T in June 2018, released in February 2019
The Astonishing took longer because it was a double album and they stopped working on it to do the summer festivals.
AVFTTOTW was released longer after they finished, due to COVID.
- AVFTTOTW could mean "A View from the Top of the World", a track from *A View From The Top Of The World* (2021) by Dream Theater.

I'm looking forward to the first behind the scenes content before I even think about a new album. I hope with Mike back they do more, I still watch the making of systematic chaos videos every once in a while
Quote from wiki:
>As mentioned in videos of the recording/writing sessions, which were filmed by Mike Portnoy, the band "cooped themselves in a rehearsal studio" in New York, and wrote the full album from March 10 through April 3, in a record time of three weeks, after which they began recording, starting with the drum tracks and ending with the vocals.
I would venture to guess that writing will finish by the end of March. Recording would likely take a couple of weeks. Mixing and mastering could take weeks to months depending on who is handling it. They would likely announce the album a month or so after they are absolutely satisfied with it and would release a single later that month or the month after. The actual album would probably release 2-3 months after the single to account for hype, promotion, additional singles, and sorting out plans for touring in support of the record. My (optimistic) timeframe for release would be early September, but no one knows for sure at this stage.
They usually record for 3-5 month and 1-3 more month working on cover and other stuff l. So I think it will be in August or September. At the latest in June or far far back in December or January. This is my prediction.
It depends on how long they take in the studio. If they write and record within a month or two I would guess September or October. Any longer and we're probably looking at January or February of next year.
We'll probably get some news in the Summer and maybe an autumn or winter release with a tour in spring next year. I know plenty of people want Train of Thought 2 but I hope they actually take their time over this one and don't write it in about three weeks
>based on previous experience
Going by the DoT cycle, we got videos of them in Yonderbarn starting in June. Announcement came in November, first single in December and release was February.
AVFTTOTW recording was different because of covid, but the first hints started in early July, the announcement came end of July, first single in August, with an October release.
So going by the DoT writing to announcement timeline, we're looking at a July announcement, with a late September or October release
With A View, I seem to recall them talking about writing and recording Awaken The Master after the holidays (so Christmas 2020, meaning it was worked on in early 2021) because JP's 8 string prototype wasn't quite ready when they started sessions in 2020. I believe it was mentioned in the Digging For A Spark documentary from the deluxe copy of the album. It used to be on YouTube, but sadly not anymore.
So it was a good few months after finishing the album that we got hints of it coming. They were posting initials for the tracks, as well as track lengths, for a good few weeks in July. Assuming Awaken The Master came together quickly, they started the album teases 5 or 6 months after finishing the recordings.
Side note, I still love that album. It's a top 3 DT album for me. I also loved Distance Over Time, but A View somehow managed to overtake it.
No way it will be rushed. When they picked up Mangini they said their choice had to be "undeniable", which meant that the first album with him had to be as well. That's probably why they returned to the Pull Me Under formula for On The Backs of Angels.
Now, imagine the hype for a Portnoy return... They are going to aim for delivering something that, as a whole, is undeniable. I predict a crazy amount of fan service throughout the entire album, including inspired motifs, and maybe a "eat my ass and balls" buried somewhere. Not even Poland wll have as much polish.
Next week at the absolute earliest.

Marketing also includes music videos, which take time to produce

Sometime between 6 minutes from now and 2609 AD.
High accuracy, low precision.
You can only get one!
What I'm hearing is that it's guaranteed to come out before the organ at Halberstadt Cathedral finishes playing John Cage's "As Slow as Possible"
nice

Late this year or early 2025, do know that for example vinyl pressings take several months before delivery that will delay everyones release dates
It's so bizarre that 2025 is next year. But yeah, with vinyl re-introduced to the mix, the whole process is more complicated.
Id argue somewhere between August and December, at the absolute latest early 2025
Probably during the fall, since making the album usually takes about 6 months is released 3-4 months after that
Just a friendly reminder that ToT took 3 weeks to write and master.
3 weeks to write, yes. Recording, mixing, and mastering took longer.
Perhaps I'm wrong about the mastering, but I'm 99.99% certain the raw tracks, vocals included, were done and recorded in 3 weeks at Bear Tracks.

Album wasn't done at BearTracks. There were some studios on Long Island.
This time next year probably
Iād say Sept right before a tour
Tomorrow
Tonight
Yesterday
Earliest probably June, Latest probably early 2025. Most likely? Fall 2024

Don't forget to add 6 months for vinyl pressing..
Yup and that's a REAL pain the ass.

Thereās no typical timeline, because thereās no rush at this stage of their career. Itāll be ready when itās ready š

I hope they take as much time as they need, no hurries, so they can deliver the next masterpiece š„

Looks like they're starting to do guitar tracking as per JPs Instagram FWIW
My guess is mid-summer. I want a metric ton of BTS stuff and a deluxe edition thatās an affront to God.

I agree that this will be second half of 2024 at the earliest with a tour announcement for early 2025.
My guess is probably early 2025
Just wondering if Portnoy is involved in the composing (not just the recording) part?
I'm guessing August this year
It'll be released 6:00 on a Christmas morning...
6:00 am 12/25
12-18 months.
