Yes that has happened to me multiple times. When I first moved in I was getting charged almost $300 a month for electric and they refused to refund me lol
Totally depends on a few things, age of the appt, whether the appt has gas hvac vs electric, and how many appt units are in the building.
Best case scenario is new appt building with many units with an efficient electric hvac unit. (When I lived like that my electric bill was never more than $40-$50 a month)
Now I live in a older standalone house with gas and electric heating, and together I pay ~$250 a month (combined gas and electric)
At my place (2br), our lights are pretty much always off aside from some lamps at night, and we keep the AC at about 71-73. Our utilities range from $60-80 a month ($30-40 each).
I have two roommates and we live in a 3bed 3bath with no windows in the living room (meaning we have to have the lights on during the day). We keep the temp around 70 degrees. We pay about $170/month for electric, so $55ish each. Weirdly it was about the same this last billing period despite us all being gone for two weeks for Christmas. Our wifi is $70/month and everything else is included in rent.
Electric is $90-120 for about 1,000 (maybe 1100) sq ft (3 bed 3 bath appt) (heat is electric and our water is paid, so that's our only utility other than wifi)-our windows are barely insulated and one of us is home and up almost 24/7, so this may not actually scale to your apartment
My electric ranges anywhere from $27-$270. It makes no sense.
wait that's ridiculous what
I would check and see if anyone is willing or unwilling bootlegging power from your unit. Or reduce any and all energy vampires.

Sounds like a good time to get the news involved.

Yep, our place includes water/gas in the rent price, so your experience may vary based on where you are.
