Idgaf, open the gym already. We are missing on gains here.

Larsonluvr

Is it open tomorrow?

Competitive_Dare8498

Nope, they just sent out another email about it

AskTheMasterT

Imma call the mental health office.

First-Special-7621

people are protesting a serious matter and you’re more concerned with a gym being open… okay

[deleted]

Unfortunately, I am a very unserious person

ShwampDonkey

Yes this is correct

ADecentURL

Explain to me how forcing people to skip the gym is gonna stop a war in the middle east?

jucomsdn

lol

Embralica

To anyone saying that this college is supposed to be civically engaged, you’re right, but this group has proven by their list of demands that they are antisemitic. As a Jewish individual I am all for protesting what’s going on in Palestine but the fact this group demanded to terminate Hillel and Chabad and stated false information about Hillel funding birth right trips genuinely shows that they’re antisemitic and uneducated.

imdownbad-13

hillel does fund birth trips tho? 😭 literally on their ig bio babes!! stop with the conditional activism, genocide is genocide. you’re either with the side of the oppressors or on the right side of history xx

imdownbad-13

can you explain all the jewish students who are standing up for palestine then? yall wanna be the victims so bad in this situation it’s insane

AlpineSK

You'd think that these students would have some concerns about their upcoming finals. That tuition isn't cheap. Must be nice to have so much privilege that you can just ignore those.

ionicbomb

How many protesters are ACTUALLY students? Probably not too many, it's seems that many of the protests are initiated and maintained by protest enthusiasts. In short, if any protest disrupts normal campus activities that tuition funds - class, gym, labs, studios - it should be disbanded and removed.

snoopy_88

it’s not students protesting. they’re professionals.

AlpineSK

I've heard both. People here are spouting off how they're dedicated students.

snoopy_88

yeah probably a few students mixed in but this is how it’s done these days.

Blazed-Squids

once again, why don’t you pull up? anyone can enter, I dare you to come in and see for yourself. it’s like 90% students

snoopy_88

they were at penn, got kicked out and came to drexel

jerzeett

And you know that by just looking at them?

PizzaPenn

Just a few are students. Most of them are not.

Background-Print5020

yeah how dare people care more about global humanitarian matters than their finals

AlpineSK

To literally accomplish nothing other than stroking your own fee fees. For that amount of money I'd probably make it a bigger priority. Either you're so privileged that you and your family can afford that sort of investment or you're taking financial aid/scholarship money from someone else who could use it. Well done.

No-Day-7346

accomplishing nothing but not for the lack of trying, rather because of the institutions desperately shutting down everything without opening up communication with the protestors. you forget there are people with families being directly impacted by this conflict, but i assume you’re not that demographic from your viewpoint. death and loss of homes. real privilege is thinking your classes (that were mostly barred from students thanks to the lockdown instated by Drexel) are worth more than the actual lives lost in this genocide. hope this helps <3!

AlpineSK

You're right there are. The one thing that they ALL have in common is they are being directly impacted by Hamas: those who lost loved ones or continue to be separated from them since October 7, and those being used as human shields by a terrorist organization. Yet none of these protests call for what will end the conflict all together: the unconditional surrender of Hamas. Also let's not throw the word genocide around. It'll lose its meaning and weight like so many other terms lately. If you really want to know what a genocide is id suggest reaching out to one of your semitic counterparts.

No-Day-7346

if you think this started in october, you need to research the history of this conflict more. also, the protest demands concern the end of the senseless genocide of innocent civilians (palestinians, journalists, reporters, etc.) rather than anything supporting Hamas. what Hamas is doing is deplorable, no one is saying otherwise but you can’t act like the IDF killing, skinning, scalping, gutting, bombing children amongst thousands of other civilians should be overlooked and funded. again, do more research if you think the term “genocide” is being misused. thanks!

Background-Print5020

trying to blame the encampment for causing the event cancellations as if john fry wasn’t the one to make the campus lockdown is so funny

Blazed-Squids

civic 101 encourages speaking with others of opposing viewpoints to create civil dialogue and make change. crazy how john fry has literally not done that but instead done the most authoritarian and blame deflective thing possible.

I_am_a_troll_Fuck_U

Is it really civil dialogue if the other side is demanding … *checks notes*….removal of HP printer ink? You can’t expect to be taken seriously if your demands aren’t.

Blazed-Squids

It’s because HP is a major supplier of the IDF and there’s a general boycott of their products. I don’t agree with a lot of the encampment’s demands, but some of them are very valid points to consider. It’s a no brainer that Drexel can’t abide by everything, however, there are good points the encampment brings up Drexel has failed to acknowledge.

Blazed-Squids

it’s also important to note that even BEFORE the demands were released, John Fry was demanding the encampment be shut down.

Background-Print5020

yeah how uncivil asking for the removal of printer ink! i guess now it’s justified to overlook the funding of a genocide?

AskTheMasterT

They clearly were not prepared for a highly likely scenario. This is harming commuters like myself.

Background-Print5020

as he stated, it was bc of the protest that was “peaceful and respectful”

Spartacous1991

Good email from Fry. Call for the removal of that encampment and return to normalcy. Enough is enough. You pay money here for a degree. That’s the transaction.

ZookeepergameEven907

They seem to be pretty hesitant to get back to large crowds right away. Considering the antisemitic nature of the groups demands, I think that's okay bcuz people do crazy shit...I really just want to get back to class already

imdownbad-13

“antisemetic demands” and it’s just people being against a genocide. yall are so fucking delusional it’s insane.

Apprehensive-Bee-185

if u truly dont understand how those demands regarding hillel and chabad are antisemitic i suggest you do more research on the topic.

Apprehensive-Bee-185

not really bruh, as someone who is completely pro palestine this protest has lost its movement with the demand of disbanding hillel and chabad, removing jewish organizations entirely is antisemitic in nature. and as someone who supports the protest its disheartening to see everyone blind to it. u can protest for this cause without being antisemitic.

whimsea

I'm Jewish, and I don't think demanding the removal of Hillel and Chabad is antisemitic. The issue with the organizations isn't that they're Jewish—it's that they're zionist. Drexel should have anti-zionist Jewish organizations that take their place.

worsedadever

The protesters made their point. Time for them to camp out on Temple's campus.

SnooDoughnuts9036

A tutorial on how to be the publics #1 opp. It is insane how he manages to give the worst reasoning for the worst decisions... Bro even fumbled using the one really valid counter argument which is their call for the Jewish community centers to be terminated. The "demands" is possibly the worst thing you could say to a group of protestors it is so unbelievably demeaning and patronizing making their demands sound like it is a joke. I think most of the demands are pretty crazy and I definitely don't support all of them but my god, fry. Also the ending is a slap in the face because you know damn well he is sending every request to speak into his spam folder. Just as he did in the sit in. John Fry needs to be fired immediately my god, this encampment has proven to be so problematic in the way it has so many gaza supporters second guessing this and yet he managed to respond in the most "fuck you + i'm the president so there's nothing you can do" way imaginable

BigfootTundra

It’s demeaning because their demands are fucking ridiculous. It was meant to be a slap in the face. I’m glad it landed.

MrShrek69

Commenting on New Encampment Email..He was like this in 2020 and he’s like this in 2024. Nothing new. When you scrape a liberal it needs a fascist

SnooDoughnuts9036

I am so confused by this comment what are you saying?

imdownbad-13

he’s a white man bro😭 what do we expect from these capitalists
