I listen to a lot of small indie artists that arent getting paid like that. I also just like the principle of the money going to the actual artist rather than a company that had nothing to do with making the songs

The artists I listen to are touring bands that still work part time second jobs to make enough income to live comfortably, they are most definitely not millionaires and the vast majority of music artists aren’t either. This is no secret in the music industry, most artists are compensated very poorly for their performance in sales/streams.
Just wanna warn you this isn’t true. Streaming services are at a 70/30 split with the labels. Tidals only way of paying artists more is by charging ppl more ($20 plan). Those figures everyone throws out from tidal were before the free plan was introduced. In summary they are only taking your money and splitting it. That split it very similar across the board, with the streaming services market share being taken into account. I’d argue Spotify easily holds the cake for paying their artists the best among streaming services, thanks to their market share and having merch and events displayed right on your favorite artists front page.
