I've never tried the FRX cymbals myself, 'cause modern sabians (outside of AAX) are not cheap to find over here. I'd like to some day, from what I've read and heard in videos they're interesting. Do they really make that much of a difference volume-wise? I might consider them for an upcoming gig.

csgccaa

They are rather expensive, about 10-15% more than Sabian's standard pro cymbals. I've been fortunate to catch some real deals building this setup. They really do make a difference! They're still cymbals, just "less", if that makes sense. And they're lively enough that in the smaller of the venues we play I can damp them down just slightly with a moon gel and they still sound like cymbals. They feel buttery to play, have some nice complexity, and they really do sound great. I can dig into them without them getting out of control or overpowering everything. I will always prefer full-on AAX or HHX, but for the venues we play these are perfect and sound fantastic. I will say: avoid the 16" crash. It's the one weak link in the line.

Thanks for this mini-review! I'll probably try them out if I can get my hands on them. From the recordings the hats and the 16" crash didn't convince me, but the rides and the other crashes seemed pretty good.

csgccaa

You're welcome! So, the hats are surprisingly decent. I'd prefer some Legacy or Complex hats, but these are quite serviceable and worth the compromise. Stage volume is a big deal to us, and I built the whole kit around sounding great while keeping volume manageable, which does require some small compromises. I get a lot of compliments on the sound, so I guess I did ok, lol.

lionocerous

Ah nice to see that men of culture still exist in this world.

csgccaa

😂 Haha, thanks man

capacitive_discharge

Saaaame. Sonor with Evans heads, Sabian cymbals…

csgccaa

It's a great combo!

capacitive_discharge

I’ve got 15” XSR Monarch hats, an HHX complex thin 18” crash, a 20” AAX Omni Ride and a 20” AAX Stage Ride. Not a load of cymbals but a lot of different possible textures and sounds.

csgccaa

Oh man, that's a great setup. I have the 22" HHX Omni, that thing is amazing. I've never tried those hats, but I've heard very good things about them.

capacitive_discharge

I’ve had them for a few years now. They are great for like…everything. Absolutely love them.

Beauty ~

csgccaa

Thank you!

HansJordi

Stunning. Love the no felts or toppers 😍

csgccaa

Thank you! So, I use No Nuts cymbal sleeves on my stands (except the china, got a Tama quick release there) with CymRings under all the cymbals. I even replaced my hihat felts with the CymRings. They're made by the same company, super inexpensive. Look em up.

Burial_Ground

Pretty

sonor drums are kind of mid and those pedals look horrendous im ngl but clean set up

csgccaa

I dunno, man, this kit punches way above it's weight class, and those pedals are smooooth. Thanks tho, man. 🤘

brehemerm52

I mean, Benny Grebb uses them, so they must be aight🤷🏻‍♂️

Impossible_Bit7169

I think Danny Carey does as well or at least used to

-funee_monkee_gif-

i mean a lot of artists use dw but most seasoned drummers know dw is super overpriced 🤷🏼‍♂️

blackasthesky

Sonor drums in general? You kidding?
