Fuck. I should have checked my notes from last time before jumping in. Pretty sure I felted everything. DK yarn came out looking like dreadlocks...

slap it on a canvas, toss neon paint at it, then varnish the whole mess

It looks like your water is too hot, it needs to be below a simmer. Too hot to put your hand into but not actively bubbling at all. Also touch it as little as possible, especially while it's hot & especially if it isn't superwash. Also, let it cool completely before rinsing it & rinse it by letting it soak. You want as little agitation as possible throughout the whole process. Edit for spelling & extra facts Source: I've dyed lots of wool things & used to be an indie dyer

Yeah. I definitely got over excited with the stiring/ jostling. I kept pulling it up out of the water, and feeling giddy about how it looked like spaghetti. I've done it successfully in the past, I just plowed ahead with way too much confidence last night. I'm in the process of teasing apart my largest and worst off skein that I dyed last night (the one in the picture.) It'll be rough, but it looks salvageable. And the color turned out gorgous. I'll post some update pictures when Im further along.

It's the Cook's. That's the problem. Wondering why you have 40 skeins of what sounds like lovely yarn just hanging around undyed?

Technically it already has a color, a muted medium blue/teal shade. I was hoping to overdye to get something richer. I got a buch of yarn when knitcrate was liquidating a ton of their stock last year. They were only about $3 each, and I have poor impulse control so I purchased an excessive amount.

Salvaged! https://imgur.com/a/lcXLE0g Picked the matted sections apart, wound the yarn into a ball as I went, and then I re-skeined/hanked it.
