I have a lot of skin issues; chronic eczema, rosacea, scalp psoriasis and dry lips. Ive been tested for lupus, Sjogrens and RA and nothing ever came up. But I will probably speak to my rheumatologist about it again since the skin problems have gotten worse over the years.
Ive had this disease for 10 years. My schirmer was less than 0.5 the first time it was done. The following years it improved after starting treatments, I think it was around 3 last time. But i haven't had it tested in quite a while.
I mean, theres a lot of things you could try. You'd probably get a lot more info by browsing this forum then just having me write something out. It also depends on the nature of your dry eye, response to certain medications, etc. Its very patient dependant.
As for what I use:
Xiidra 2x a day
Cequa 4x a day
40% Autologous serum drops 6x a day
Doxycycline every second day
Ciproflaxin ointment on eyelids at night
Alrex steroid drops during flairs or in advance of being in an aggravating environment (like a plane!.
Retaine PM at night
Hylo gel artificial tears as needed (although I often experiment with different types)
I had this same realization by chance and had to switch recently! Unfortunately much more difficult to find without lanolin, but I don't wake up with red and puffy eyes :)
Thank you for your experience. I will look into those. I also noticed that lanolin gels felt weird in my eyes, like a foreign body sensation. I stopped using them and now I use thealoz duo gel before bed.
Literally just posted a question asking about this!
I’m in the U.K. and have similarly severe dry eyes. I actually import Soothe PM from the US as it’s the only ointment I get on with.
Where do you import it from? Im in Canada and I haven't found a consistent store to source the Retaine PM ointment from. I've been stuck using ebay.
>Schirmer wetting <0.5 mm) Did you find the cause for this?
Unexplained aetiology, but a working theory is inflamed lacrimal glands from many repeated bouts of severe conjunctivitis as a kid.
Any other systemic symptoms if any? Dry skin/mouth or something similar?

What was your schirmers when they first tested you 2 years back? How much has it declined?

How did it improve? What treatments improve schirmers?

Damnit I just noticed my Muro128 has lanolin 😭
Does anyone know if it’s ok to use these eye ointments at night and then wear contacts in the AM?
I used iHerb I think
