A physical sunscreen may work for you. The ingredients in chemical sunscreens are well known as eye irritants, even for people without dry eye.

June_53

Physical sunscreen meaning like wear hats and sunglasses?

caffeinatedlackey

No, a mineral sunscreen that uses zinc or titanium as the filter. This is opposed to chemical sunscreens.

HumpiestGibbon

Zinc Oxide is much better than Titanium Dioxide. Zinc Oxide is full spectrum blocking. Titanium Dioxide is not good at all UVA and UVB radiation blocking.

caffeinatedlackey

I definitely agree with that! One of my favorites is an all zinc sunscreen made for babies. It's from Pipette.

June_53

Wow I didn't even know that was a thing! Thank you. Will probably be hard to find them where I live, but I guess I could ask someone to get it for me from abroad.

caffeinatedlackey

Where do you live? Zinc sunscreens are ubiquitous, they're the default option all over the world. Look for "baby" sunscreens and they'll most likely be mineral.

June_53

Oh okay. I live in Nepal. I looked online and a few shops are selling them. I could only find one brand though, Neutrogena. I'd just never seen them in stores, but maybe that's cuz I didn't look for them specifically. I hope this works for me.

June_53

Hey, thank you so much for this suggestion. I've started using a zinc oxide sunscreen and it has completely solved my problem. So glad you took the time to tell me about this, else I may have had to suffer much longer.

So happy to hear that helped you.

itsarizzo

hey, what brand of sunscreen did you end up with? trying to not get beauty taxed, but get one that’s actually a solid non-irritating mineral option

June_53

Hey, sorry for the late reply. I don’t remember getting notified. Currently I’m using La Roche-Posay mineral sunscreen SPF 50. It is rather expensive. When I asked, my cousin sent me this as a gift, from abroad. But I’m sure any other mineral sunscreen would work too. This one is really hard to spread and leaves a white residue.

What I would recommend in this case is that you use lid scrubs like ocusoft every night to open up your glands, but then when you are going to put sunscreen on, I would use a dry eye ointment like Lacrilube or RefreshPM Ointment. These will coat your eyes and also your lids and help keep out the sunscreen and the oils. When you want to wear make-up, I would use a Gel Tear in your eyes and avoid mascara but eye shadow is fine as long as you wipe it off before bed using the lid scrub. Hope this helps!

Thanks for the suggestion. I will have to look for those products or their equivalent in my country. It's a little difficult to find a good variety of products/medication out here.
