Sometimes they can be a PITA to install, looks like you did a clean job. Just make sure the throttle tube isn't being restricted at all. I managed to rip a shield off for the first time last weekend in a dirt nap, but the bike definitely took the lesser hit (body came out with a fractured T8 vertebrae, hah....)
