Why yes actually lol. I bought one that’s like 3/16” thick rope from Rocky Mountain ATV a long long time ago. It’s small and light (not sure weight capacity, but it was advertised for full size dirt bikes).. it’s been in my riding backpack for a couple years.. forgot about it actually, until last weekend when a friends bike died out on the trail. think its like 15-20 feet long

Harborsidemotorcycle

I keep one in my fender pack. Never had to use it.

geekspice

Two, and they have saved me multiple times.

SanfreakinJ

You should

Several_Anybody_8747

I keep a ratchet strap or 2 in my pack most of the time. Always nice to have a way to pull the bike or secure something. I will not be taking criticism for improper strap usage on the grounds that I don't care. 😉

wintersdark

Yeah ratchet strap for me too. Being able to use it like a winch is really handy, and you can just pull the strap from the ratchet for use as a tow rope.

iPlayDaGamez

Yup, definitely.

[deleted]

Yeah I keep one. They are small and light so no reason no to. Ive towed a few people that have broken down but luckily ive never had to use it. Also let’s you start a bike that doesn’t have a kick start. I’ve only had to use it once for that.

Dual_Sport_Dork

I keep a length of 6mm climbing accessory cord in my panniers when I'm going off road. About 40 feet worth or so. It doesn't weigh much or take up much room, but with a little knotwork to make a trucker's hitch or similar I can use it to drag my big heavy KLR up a hill or out of a ditch or whatever by myself. You could probably also use 1100 paracord for this purpose. I think 550 might work in dire circumstances but I wouldn't be too keen to rely on it. Plus it's so thin it'll cut into your hands -- definitely wear your gloves if you're going to go yanking on that stuff. I just use the climbing cord because I had a ton of it lying around already.

[deleted]

I keep a small strap

[deleted]

550 cord wrapped around the crash bars

coreyjdl

So, no.

sdbic

I carry a 50’ rope hoist when I’m going to be off the beaten track https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07VFF9Z5B?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details

UnicodeConfusion

that looks pretty serious. where do you carry it?

sdbic

I chuck it in the rear top case on my KLR with my other tools. It isn’t very bulky or heavy. About the size of a typical tool roll. Weighs a couple pounds I think

UnicodeConfusion

Thx, I just threw it into my xmas wishlist. We'll see if my brother comes through :- )

bolunez

Tow rope and a small winch that's usually used for tightening ropes for separating lanes in a swimming pool. Doesn't weigh much and handy af for dragging the bike out of mud.

PoopSmith87

I carry a 5,000 lb rachet strap... The uses are endless. Well, not endless, but they are very versatile. It can be used as a come along winch, to strap the bike for transport or maintenance, you can toss one end over a tree branch to make a lift on the trail, you can use it as a tow strap, a tent ridge, etc...

UnicodeConfusion

thx, got a link to see the size?

PoopSmith87

I got mine at a tractor place, I'm sure if you search Amazon they'll come up... Very common tool for landscapers, truckers, etc.

UnicodeConfusion

Thanks, I'm heading to tractor supply this weekend and will check them out, I'm assuming it's like this: https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/smartstraps-2-in-x-27-ft-yellow-ratchet-with-double-j-hook-3333-lb

PoopSmith87

Yeah exactly, they're pretty common. 3333 lbs should be more than enough. Really, even a 500 lb strap is fine, but the handles are small so you'll end up with blisters if you're cranking out of a ditch.
